I had one for 2 years and rode every time my seadoo was dead. I was just getting into skis so the seadoo was dead a lot. Lol. That was the best ski. Very flat bottom. Was the best for beach wave jumping. I have had crowds of people stop to watch me get air at the beach on that. So much fun. But your right step off the dock on it a full throttle all the way. I was 235 pounds at the time as long as you didn’t stop she was good to go. Ride hard baby.
I expected a mouse nest when you took the top off. I used to have one of those. I took it on the Mississippi and hit a craw fish and it sank. Tried to receive but couldn’t find my snorkel. Oh well, any here see the new plug and play fueltech! Can’t wait to tune my skidooooo
I had an ‘87 when I was 15 back in the 1900’s… a lot of fun… versatile but underpowered. Used to ride backwards… very tough to control at low speeds… Higgins Lake Michigan
this was my first ski ever and it was way underpowered and slow, but it was bulitproof and i loved it as a starter, and a year later i stepped up the ladder to a X2 and later a 3D and now a waveblaster 2. I turn 58 in july, and ride jetskis for 31 years now and hope that i can keep on riding them as long my health will alow me to. I ride way less than i use to do but its still my favorite hobby when it's damn hot outside, and can't think of a better way to keep it cool and have fun at the same time!
I think you mean JS 550. They didnt make a js500. My daughter has two Waverunner 500's and they top out at 33 and 35mph. Same hull design below the bond line. Your ski sounds horribly boggy. Im guessing you're hitting 25-27mph. Yamaha wasn't allowed to release a standup back in 88,89 with a liftable handle pole. Kawi had the rights. It had to be a fixed pole. The superjet was the first. We dropped a 650 motor in one of the 500's and it's a much better ride. This ski rides nothing like a Blaster 1. lol
Correct! and great knowledge, thanks for that! the plan is to definitely put a 650 in there or steal the 701 from the wb2... also I didn't know about the stand up history. that's wild
Cool. The 701 is too much power. The 500 pump is too small. You need to find LX bedplates to do the swap. and the larger coupler. The Waveblaster 1 also uses the 701 61X motor.. These little 500's run forever though. My kids beat on them. I have a SN SuperJet 701, Kawasaki X2 that im 701 swapping. I also have a VXR Pro with a 701 and a Kawaski 550sx with a 650 swap! lol. Loved your video btw!@@WeTryMotorsports
@@StefanMailey 701 motor cavitates the 500 pump? what about a proper pitched impeller? that was my maybe swap, but I'm actively looking for a crashed waverunner with a 650
Yes. The intract is too small. (pump tunnel) 701 would need a pump swap. 650 works ok, if you run a steep prop.Hard to find for these small old pumps though.@@WeTryMotorsports
@@StefanMailey awesome info. i'll stick to looking for the 650. the machine looks to have a stainless impeller in it currently, so i'd have to imagine that's aftermarket. i'll leave the 701 in the wb then haha

so sick! that's great to hear
Had one of these for years! Loved it!
@@DWeed2199 it's so damn fun
I had this exact ski in 1991 and kept it for two years before we sold it. Used it on the Delaware River. Good memories
@@cmd2973 one of the most fun skis ever made

I have a 1988. It has ignition issues. They handle like a cake of wet soap on a waxed floor hahaha.
🤣🤣 best description ever
I’ve heard x2 are fun as well
yep definitely, can't wait to get my hands on one
I want one of these and swap the 500cc for a 1200 dasa 😂
i'm already toying with ideas to 701cc swap this bad boy! it's so much fun
@WeTryMotorsports heck yeah! Ported and a b pipe! Haha. Make it happen 😁
How does this compare to a blaster 1? I know power is slower but as far as handling goes is it more a stand-up or like a blaster? Maybe a slow x2 😂
super slow, but very similar to a stand up. the flat bottom hull is totally different than a WB1. and yes, similar to a slow X2 lol
