    Genre: Dance/Electronic
Nominations: MTV Video Music Award for Best Overall Performance, MTV Video Music Award for Best Group
Jump" is a song by American hard rock band Van Halen. It was released in December 1983 as the lead single from their album 1984. It is Van Halen's most successful single to date, reaching number 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The song differs from earlier Van Halen songs in that it is driven by a keyboard line (played on an Oberheim OB-Xa) although the song does contain a guitar solo, which was spliced together from multiple takes. David Lee Roth dedicated the song to martial artist Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, of whom he was a student.

I have been a fan of Van Halen since I was 9 years old. Eddie was a big influence on me picking up a guitar, and getting serious in taking lessons and wanting to play it. I love the 1984 album. my favorite song on the album is I'll Wait. Other favorite songs of Van Halen I love are:
    And the Cradle Will Rock
    Eruption
    Unchained
    Drop Dead Legs
    Runnin' With the Devil
    Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love

I saw Van Halen in concert back in 1984 when this album came out... And they were EXACTLY this in concert as they were in the video. The lead singer, David Lee Roth, has several belts in Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do, Karate and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, that's why he can jump around doing splits in the air and on the ground like that.

Jay nailed it with the martial arts assumption about David Lee Roth. I'm not sure which style he studied nor do I know to what degree it is but David Lee Roth holds a black belt and has for a long time.
From what I've read this song's lyrics kinda sorta good started from a potential suicide. David Lee Roth was riding around town trying to come up with words for the song, when on the radio there was an announcement of a man contemplating killing himself by jumping off a billboard if I remember correctly. David Lee Roth said jokingly as he was so frustrated not coming up with any words yet to the song said to the guy driving in response to what was going on "he might as well go ahead and jump!"
The band of course turned it into a positive lyrically and musically

then again he was 65, long time when you put the whole rockstar thing in perspective, he partied as hard as them all and somehow outlived all of them, of all the rockstar deaths you hear about i think evh died a pretty natural death with all that in mind

Thank you for such a wonderful and heartfelt tribute to our King Edward.
The Missus woke me up crying and for the entire day we couldn’t listen to a note of King Edward without the waterworks comin’ - so many good times with his music -it felt weird
We found watching interviews with him and other kind folks like yourself paying tribute to Eddie makes it somewhat easier to bear. We literally had a day of intensely mourning. It might sound daft but Ed’s playing and attitude is hugely responsible for inspiring me to be the person I am.
There’s a Bad Religion ( Punk Band ) Lyric that says it al “ Everyone you love leaves a mark on your soul,
The world is a little less bright without King Edward
Im fighting cancer and depression and its been especially tough with the news of Eddie’s passing but hearing all these wonderful tributes and reaction and the love and joy he brought and is bringing….makes it a tad bit easier
Much love and respect! Thank you for honouring our King Edward. Eddie's music touched us so deeply because of his love for the instrument and the innovations he has done. To us, it feels like the brightest and best brother, Uncle, friend mentor you ever had is not in our realm anymore. You have Nothing but love from the rock/metal / guitarist community, respect for your tribute to EVH, Rock n Metal does not get the exposure and respect that other genres get.
So, you are forever in the hearts of many a Rock / Metal / Guitar fan's hearts. Stay safe & all the best wishes to you. Watch this Video Interview and you'll see why we're hurting so much...The world is a little less bright without King Edward This is a brilliant interview if you haven’t seen it ua-cam.com/video/yb26D8bBZB8/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Z%C3%B3caloPublicSquare

Van Halen was one of the Greatest Bands of the '80's!!! David Lee Roth was the front man and entertainer. The reason David Lee Roth was so athletic and flexible, because he was studying Martial Arts during that time. Eddie Van Halen was one of the Greatest lead guitarist and synthesizer player during that time. Alex Van Halen was the Best drummer during the time. Michael Anthony was the Bass player for Van Halen. RIP Eddie Van Halen. Rock On Van Halen!!! 🤘🤟✊🤙👊💥🔥

All the commenters seem to miss the fact that this song is addressed to the girl (probably in a bar) listening to the song. David's got his back against the record machine - he ain't the worst that you've seen - you might as well jump (and go home with him)! I bet a lot of girls DID... And changing topics - Eddie Van Halen indeed WAS a spectacular guitarist - but his keyboard skills are often overlooked. The synth solo in this song is one for the ages! RIP Eddie!
