Just when you think UA-cam has become yet another boring TV provider flogging shite, we get a new channel producing gems like this! WOW! Amazing to see and I wish it well and look forward to more content. Trenz was an incredible master of the C64 who could produce games on the Commodore that beat anything available (produced by the teams programming) on the Nintendo NES. Finally a fitting tribute to a great programmer.

I remember all the controversy around great giana sister and katakis, the fact that activision decided to hire the guy who made an outstanding rtype clone to make the actual port was (and still is) mindblowing. Rtype was my favourite stg on the 64.

BTW love this channel..it's been invaluable getting the mini to behave itself, I'm really pleased with my mini now....after all that buyers remorse it's made a real comeback, I find myself leaving the old warhorse turned off more and more, I only turn it on for demos these days.

Excellent video, really nice to see these programmers get the retrospective credit they deserve for giving us all so much fun, then and still now. When I read Retro Gamer magazine (here in the UK), the dev stories and interviews are often my favourite items.

great mini doc but for me the story of Ocean, Imagine, System 3, Gremlin Graphics, Elite, Hewson and Rare stand out, and the UK musicians, Rob Hubbard, Martin Galway, Ben Daglish, Mark Cooksey, Matt Gray. Plus the creatures series by the Rowland twins which show incredible c64 visuals probably the best. Who could forget Amalyte which is probably the most visually impressive shoot em up by John Kemp and Dan Phillips smashing limits. Plus original games like Nebulus and Last Ninja with amazing sound tracks. Rare produced unique games in the industry with their filmation techniques. Archer McClean who did IK ahd IK+ and the schoolboys who did Elite on the BBC opening that exploration genre. The UK in my view was the epicentre of what pushed the C64 and 8-bit home computers.

"64'er" was a German magazine so for them it would be a bit easier to pronounce: *Vierundsechziger* (veer-oond-zek-zig-ur)
That's probably even harder for English language people but since German is much like Dutch, I think it works. In Dutch: vierenzestiger.

Yeah, unfortunately he seems to avoid any public attention. That's really sad news cuz Chris Huelsbeck is actively producing and has been seen on some cons. Same goes for Julian who is now a director at Epic Games. Not too long ago he stated that Factor5 would be revived now owning exclusive rights to Rainbow Arts games (incl. Turrican 😃). Is there a way to contact this guy, because I really want to ask him the following:
    "Hi Manfred,

I’m just curious if you will ever release a version of Rendering Ranger that uses the original sprite art, which, based on all the amazing Turrican games, I imagine could look really gorgeous and probably even more so than the rendered art used in the final Rendering Ranger R2 game?

    And if not, why not?

It’s become clear that great sprite work really does hold up much better over time than rendered art from the ‘90s, and I would love to see if that is true of the original artistic vision for Rendering Ranger too.

I really think a whole lot of people would truly love to see this, even if it’s not a commercial project but just some dumped game for fans to talk about and the community to dig into or whatever.

    Thanks,

    Kirk"
