My dear akhi/ukhti, we are living in hard times. Everyday we are being in a trouble with something... Problems can come from Marriage, School, Money, Work, Psychology and some other stuff. As a Japanese converted Muslim, I really feel him. My family, especially my mother, is practical Shintoist (Japanese traditional polytheism). After my conversion, she said “my son became a terrorist! ”, I wasn’t waiting for such a strong word, but she never left her birth town speaking zero foreign language so…One day she served me a bacon carbonara then I said “but…this is carbonara” “yeah as you liked when you were kid” “yeah I used to”.
Years later, alhamdoulillah my mother just got used to me being Muslim and asks me like “when is the next Ramadan ?”.
I’ve traveled a lot and now am living in an European country as an immigrant. What I see objectively now is Japan is one of the most conservative country, maybe more than China or South Korea. Not only my mother but also my friends were like “so you don’t eat any meat now…?”
The problem is in my opinion ultimately simple : just ignorance. No mater which Abraham religion, or physical difference whatnot, Japanese people are too introvert and not trying to see another world. I’m NOT trying to force them to understand but to let them be interested in what Islam is or difference is. Basically we all hope the peace.
Don't worry brother if they are your true friends they will accept you in any religion and don't feel lonely because Allah is with you and you will appreciate your decision after life..and at last pray for your mother to accept Islam and never ever disrespect to her....

Let me explain.
Liberal secularists promote the idea that their norms for regulating marriage, family, and religion are ideal.
Nevertheless, statistical data indicates that wherever a society is governed by liberal secular norms, people stop marrying, having children, and practicing religion.
Put differently, the liberal is fundamentally a hypocrite - despite what he or she might say, no liberal person is actually interested in being part of a liberal marriage, a liberal family, or a liberal religion.
Matters are different when it comes to Islam.
Muslims also promote the idea that their norms for regulating marriage, family, and religion are ideal.
Moreover, statistical data indicates that wherever a society is governed by Islamic norms, it boosts marriage, birth rate, and religious practice.
Put differently, the Muslim is actually interested in being part of a Muslim marriage, a Muslim family, and the Muslim religion.
The current era is an era of refugees fleeing from liberalism. Liberal marriage, family, and religion have collapsed.
As a result, refugees from liberal societies seek marriage partners abroad, and if they practice any type of religion - it is a non-liberal version whose centers are located abroad. Islam is the most obvious choice for them.

I just ordered The Quran online last night, i want to read it & i have two Muslim friends from Pakistan that i like so very much. Humans like to throw blanket statements like "terrorists", in studying many religions, every faith or belief has its bad seeds but to label all as bad or terrorists, shows a persons ignorance & immaturity. I am not a Muslim but that may change after i read the Quran however i do Pray & i will Pray for Muslim Community to gather around this Iman & His Family, hopefully humans can all be together in kind. If you don't know what's the plan laid out for you and how it's gonna unfold, the logical option is to do your best, and that includes praying, as laid out in the holy book. It's guidance, after all.

There's a saying, "success is one of the possible outcomes", which means, no matter hard you try, success is still a possibility, it's not a guarantee.

"So then how". What do you mean make it? Do you mean like the high mental health problem? high suicidal rate? being alcoholic? Are drugs dependent?. Let me just tell you about myself. If not for learning about Islam, I can see myself fall into depression, and so do many people that I've known.
It's kinda funny seeing how I see some people recommend books about philosophy, ritual, hobbies, and things like that, saying it really helped them, things that Islam already fulfilled for us. It's guidance after all. Those without guidance might make it till the end, but the state of their condition would be different than those with guidance.

It was so sad to hear the Imam say the most difficult part of being a Japanese Muslim currently was not having the company and friendship of other Muslims. In Sha Allah, things change over the next few years and the Muslims in Japan regardless of their ethnicity consciously reach out to one another and try to forge strong bonds. Community and friendship play a key role in Islam.
That was really painful for me to hear too. Especially since community is one of the things I love most about Islam. I will make duaa for this man, his family, and everyone else in the same position
islam is a communal religion. from shahada all the way to Hajj is something that is done with the presence of other believers.

I wish to emulate the prophet and his sahaba (peace be upon them all) where they would visit each other, sleep in each others houses to understand their living situation, visit the blind, the poor the hungry, and help feed and clothe them. May Allah taala forgive us, increase us in beneficial knowledge and fix our affairs.

@Henry Wu if you have no experience, try living in indonesia, not watching media. It is true the society does discriminate if you went murtad (left islam) in indonesia. It doesn't exclusively happened on villages, townsfolk also did discriminate the minorities.

Its interesting how he talks about the nafs in a very Buddhistic kind of way, as only this ego which is a distraction from the True self etc. We do sometimes use it like this in Islam too but we dpnt only see this aspect because its something that can be weilded for good too, Umar RA spoke to his Nafs in a good way sometimes lol, and in the Muwatta he said I will show these people my Nafs when he went into battle against the odds, other times its only Ego and we have to be careful with it.. But this Imam is only talking about that aspect because I think he kinda was trained to only be aware of the nafs as something to completely detach from, from his time reading Buddhism etc.. Who is Allah?
Allah is an Arabic term our creator for “q God.” It is a contraction of al-ilah (“the god”; al = “the” / ilah = “god”).

A characteristic description of Allah is found in Qur’an 59:22-24:
He is Allah besides Whom there is no god; the Knower of the unseen and the seen; He is the Beneficent, the Merciful. He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness. Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him). He is Allah the Creator, the Maker, the Fashioner; His are the most excellent names; whatever is in the heavens and the earth declares His glory; and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
NOTE:
1. Allah is not a Trinity (Surah 4:171; Surah 5:73; Surah 5:116);
2. Allah says he is a Father to no one (Surah 5:18; Surah 19:88-93; Surah 21:26);
3. Allah says he has no love for unbelievers (Surah 3:32); and
4. Allah says he is the “best of deceivers” (Surah 3:54; Surah 8:30).
SCRIPTURES MENTIONING THAT GOD IS A FATHER.
Let’s take a look at the groundwork that Judaism and Christianity lay regarding God as Father. The God of the Bible is indeed a Father to His people. From both the Old and New Testament Scriptures we see God revealing and describing Himself as a Father. Here are some examples taken from the New International Version. [5]
1) Deut. 32:6 - "Is this the way you repay the LORD, O foolish and unwise people? Is he not your Father, your Creator, who made you and formed you?
2) Psalms 2:7 - "I will proclaim the decree of the LORD : He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father.
3) Isaiah 63:16 - "But you are our Father, though Abraham does not know us or Israel acknowledge us; you, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer from of old is your name.
4) Matthew 6:9 - "This, then, is how you should pray: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,'"
5) John 20:17 - "Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'"
6) Romans 8:15 - "For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, "Abba, Father."
On the other hand, the Qur'an denies God’s Fatherhood: Surah 5:18 And (both) the Jews and the Christians say: "We are the children of Allah and His loved ones." Say: "Why then does He punish you for your sins?" Nay, you are but human beings, of those He has created, He forgives whom He wills and He punishes whom He wills. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and to Him is the return (of all).

WOMEN ARE DOGS, ASSES, CAMELS AND SEX SLAVES, AND MAJORITY IN HELL ARE WOMEN.
Quran (4:11) - (Inheritance) "The male shall have the equal of the portion of two females" (see also verse
4:176 ). In Islam, sexism is mathematically established.
Quran (2:282) - (Court testimony) "And call to witness, from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not found then a man and two women." Muslim apologists offer creative explanations to explain why Allah felt that a man's testimony in court should be valued twice as highly as a woman's, but studies consistently show that women are actually less likely to tell lies than men, meaning that they make more reliable witnesses.
Quran (2:228) - "and the men are a degree above them [women] "
Quran (5:6) - "And if ye are unclean, purify yourselves. And if ye are sick or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have had contact with women, and ye find not water, then go to clean, high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it" Men are to rub dirt on their hands, if there is no water to purify them, following casual contact with a woman (such as shaking hands).
Quran (24:31) - Women are to lower their gaze around men, so they do not look them in the eye. (To be fair, men are told to do the same thing in the prior verse).
Quran (2:223) - "Your wives are as a tilth unto you; so approach your tilth when or how ye will..." A man has dominion over his wives' bodies as he does his land. This verse is overtly sexual. There is some dispute as to whether it is referring to the practice of anal intercourse. If this is what Muhammad meant, then it would appear to contradict what he said in Muslim (8:3365) .
Quran (4:3) - (Wife-to-husband ratio) "Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four" Inequality by numbers.
Quran (53:27) - "Those who believe not in the Hereafter, name the angels with female names." Angels are sublime beings, and would therefore be male.
Quran (4:24) and Quran (33:50) - A man is permitted to take women as sex slaves outside of marriage. Note that the verse distinguishes wives from captives ( those whom they right hand possesses).
Sahih Bukhari (6:301) - "[Muhammad] said, 'Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?' They replied in the affirmative. He said, 'This is the deficiency in her intelligence.' "
Sahih Bukhari (6:301) - continued - "[Muhammad said] 'Isn't it true that a woman can neither pray nor fast during her menses?' The women replied in the affirmative. He said, 'This is the deficiency in her religion.'" Allah has made women deficient in the practice of their religion as well, by giving them menstrual cycles.
Sahih Bukhari (2:28) & Sahih Bukhari (54:464 ) - Women comprise the majority of Hell's occupants. This is important because the only women in heaven mentioned explicitly by Muhammad are the virgins who serve the sexual desires of men.
(A weak Hadith, Kanz al-`ummal , 22:10, even suggests that 99% of women go to Hell).
Sahih Muslim (4:1039) - "A'isha said [to Muhammad]: ' You have made us equal to the dogs and the asses' " These are the words of Muhammad's favorite wife, complaining of the role assigned to women under Islam.
Abu Dawud (2:704) - "...the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) said: When one of you prays without a sutrah, a dog, an ass, a pig, a Jew, a Magian, and a woman cut off his prayer, but it will suffice if they pass in front of him at a distance of over a stone's throw."
Abu Dawud (2155) - Women are compared to slaves and camels with regard to the "evil" in them.
Tabari Vol 9, Number 1754 - "Treat women well, for they are [like] domestic animals with you and do not possess anything for themselves." From Muhammad's 'Farewell Sermon'.
This is first time hearing about a Japanese Muslim. When anyone convert that means he/she is going to face a huge obstacles within their ecosystem, from family life to socia and so on. I wish I had to go through such hardships trying to be a Muslim so that on the day of judgment Allah will show me mercy because of it, growing up in America as a Muslim I've had my hardships but nothing close to this. May Allah grant this man into Jinnah inshallah for his hardships. Ameen

You should never wish for hardship because you have no idea if you'd be able to succeed by being patient or not. So I advise my brother ask Allah for al-Afiya in this world and the next .
