9:30 This reminds me of that John Mulaney bit where he talked about how he and this lady were alone in the subway station and something like that happened. She started running, he thought she heard the train and started running, too.
1.Change your routes/times on your daily walk 2. Take out your headphones or don’t play anything 3. Avoid looking at your phone Also, I was taught in a self defence/safety class to walk in the non lit area instead, because if you walk in the lit area anyone hiding in the dark can see you but you can’t see them 🤷🏻♀️
As a parent I do find the gender neutral bathrooms much better. (Most ours are like 20 stalls in a big room) Her father can actually go in with her and wait outside the stall which makes me feel much safer than him having to stand outside when anyone can be in there if it’s a “normal” bathroom
I was a skinny chinese kid living in the sheepshead bay houses back in the early 90s. Me and my mom were the only asians there. I went to school in manhattan and it was a 25 min walk home from the subway station. It was scary. Situational awareness and crossing the street were key survival skills. Still got robbed many times, including by own neighbor and we had to move out.
Crazy hearing this story while I’m living in Japan and kids are even walking home at midnight. But yeah we also have creepy dudes walking around, not aggressive type though😂
Those situations where guys use women as the “honeypot” to lure unsuspecting guys into a trap scares the crap out of me.. Like the scenario where some woman approaches or say knocks on the door and a bunch of guys rush him..
Watch everyone and everything and always have some form of self-defense tools such as weapons or empty hand techniques. Being cautious for safety isn't being paranoid.
That's the only thing I don't miss about being my hot younger self. The creeps. I always tried not to be rude when turning down someone, but jeez... Some guys don't take no for an answer, they think it's a negotiation or something. So you have to get bitchy in the end. Others act like you're the problem for saying no, even if you say it in a respectful way. Others expect you to sleep with them after they paid one drink for you. That's why I prefered getting my own drinks or rounds with friends. Avoids awkward situations.
I've noticed that guys (and even girls) treat us differently when a girl is around too. You could come across the same people everyday and notice that with a girl, you're treated noticeably different.
I just finished Don Jon. And thought how women overdose on romantic movies like porn and guys od on porn like it’s romance. PERSPECTIVE. - Jason Cheny. And yes it’s relatable to this segment
If I was a girl and I have a small knife, I would also carry a small roll of duct tape or something to wrap the knife on my hands. Any stalker/attacker sees that would think twice about attacking someone who is perceived to be "all in" in the life or death situation. Just imagine the visuals, and then you hear a small growl. Nobody wants to mess with someone who might be crazier than they are.
Funny enough, I feel like men usually have more situational awareness, despite it being more dangerous for women in terms of the detriment being potential worse for a woman who isn’t situational aware than it is for a man (generally speaking). I do think there are certain specific things women are more conscious of though (I.e locking the car doors right when you get in the car, weird behaviors being exhibited that might come off as normal, etc). And I think part of the reason why men are also higher victims of violence is because we have the mentality Ryan has where we have more of a fighting chance in a situation. Technically, yes it’s true but most of the time you’re fucked either way.
When ever I’m walking near a girl or walking the same way behind her or even today in the parking garage my feet scrape the floor subconsciously. Walking normally up to the point of noticing then my feet go hey scape the ground with your heel or toe to make some noice 😂😂
I think about this stuff for my sisters it’s crazy but I don’t have to deal with stuff like this I’m 6ft / 300 lbs black and Mexican so that’s why other then walking behind woman at night or going into a mom&pop store I’m Gud
I feel the way Nick and Ryan think. I have to speed walk around women as well to NOT be creepy and get the looks 😭 I have noticed women's danger ranges are larger than men's in general. Women become more situationally aware way earlier.
I definitely know trans men who wish they could use the men’s room without being afraid or the girl’s room without feeling uncomfortable & making women uncomfortable
I try to pay attention to my surroundings. For one thing, to keep me from getting lost, I need to make a point of knowing where I am. Yet also to know who or what is around me. And to find the quickest way through a store, I try to figure out where the items are I am looking for before I even go to the store to get through the process faster. Ngl, when walking alone in public I will picture in my head what I would try to do if I had to try to defend myself.
That's what you "think". Yet that isn't the reality of the situation otherwise you would have a bunch of women walking into people or traffic and injuring themselves. We, as ladies are just more subtle in our awareness without looking paranoid. And for the most part, we plan ahead where we are going, what we are doing, and in what area we are going into before we even leave the house.
@@bethnichols2875 he didn’t mention wether they even saw him to assume right of way they could of been totally distracted looking down at there phones or somthing
Not to mansplain, but "Thank, but I can handle this" is better than "I didn't ask you" whatever tone u think u may or may not have... especially if ur going to put ur headphones back on and act like the guy isn't there anymore
it's exhausting being a woman. I live in the suburbs and going to work downtown and then having to get back home in the pitch-black night, is the only time I can say I can somewhat relate to how a woman feels, every single day. If a woman is walking ahead of me, I do my best to try to gauge how much distance we have between us. If it's not a lot, I wait a bit, pretend to check my phone, etc. I give her enough distance where I hope she's no longer worried about me walking behind her. If she's walking towards me from the opposite direction, I try to take my hands out of my pockets and even then, I will purposely walk as far to the opposite side of her that I can, so as to create separation between us. People might think this is a bit much, but frankly, if it even brings her a moment of less anxiousness, it's worth it.
Damn, where do you live? I live in a college town in Canada and students always get mugged or assaulted or have their residences broken in to. I don't go the University District after 10pm now for safety's sake.

We definitely have to have our heads on a swivel as a woman every single day that we are out in daily life. Especially here.
True. My sister works downtown and she says that a lot about keeping your head on a swivel.
As someone who was actually stabbed in a botched robbery, keep ur head on a swivel and be ready to attack at any time
