    I traveled to Manila on March 31st. Just return to US today. Got my travel insurance geoblue for my 11 day stay. Cost. Was like 24 dollars. After we arrived they set everyone in a room and asked for four things, negative test, passport, one health pass and return ticket, which I’ve asked the airline just print out my itinerary. They never even looked at my insurance. I personally would still get because it’s pretty cheap and you never know.

      For me if I am an airline staff, I will read the "Place of birth" on a US passport. Some people so take it literally, they do not use common sense. Immigration officers should not give people a hard time, it is evident that when it is stated place of birth example Manila, Philippines obviously you are a former Filipino by birth. Applying for a passport is tedious already, it means they have scrutinized the documents required, that means when they print place of birth Manila, Philippines on the passport, obviously you were and still are.

    • @spotteddog6964
      @spotteddog6964 2 роки тому

      @@matriksist Not true. I have a friend born in the Philippines from foreign parents (American missionaries) and his place of birth on his passport says Philippines but he was NEVER a former Filipino even if he was born in the Philippines. Just because it says Philippines on your passport does NOT automatically make you a former Filipino citizen. This is why they require an old PH passport or an NSO/PSA issued birth certificate. As an airline staff member you should know this. SMH.

    • @matriksist
      @matriksist 2 роки тому

      @@spotteddog6964 FYI, I am not an airline staff, I said "IF" I am....Philippine nationality law is based upon "jus sanguinis", citizenship by descent. Generally, if you are born to at least one parent who was a Phil citizen at the time of your birth, you were born with Phil citizenship. In some countries, the place of birth automatically determines the nationality of the baby, a practice referred to "jus soli". In the case of your friend, both are Americans by origin, therefore the child follows the nationality of the parents be it born in a foreign land. Yes you are right, it does not make one a former Filipino citizen. Btw, not all airline employees are trained to scrutinize the contents of your passport, it is the Immigration officer.

    Hi Ms. Jen & to all who are concerned about International Covid medical insurance.
    I flew in Manila from SFO April 7 and just to be on the safe side even Im not required, I got my Insurance certificate from where I am insured which is Kaiser Permanente. It is best to contact your health insurance whether you will be covered $35k on your international trip. My case, Kaiser did.
    As to old Pinoy PP and BC to prove being former pinoy, I do not have any in my posession for Philippine immigration. Upon seeing my place of birth in my US passport & previous BB Visa stamped & we spoke in our native tagalog language and konting chikahan kamustahan and they already know you are a former Pinoy entitled for balikbayan priviledge. This only to share but it will be a case to case basis. Only sharing my experience. Sa mga uuwi, have a pleasant & safe flight.

    • @matriksist
      @matriksist 2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the insurance tip. I was right about what I thought on the "Place of birth". By law, POB determines your citizenship, but with some exemptions though, example if both parents originated from the western countries like US, UK even if the child is born in a foreign land, the nationality of the parents determines the citizenship of the child because parents can automatically register to their respective consulates.

      You are exactly right about parents. In my case, I was born in Pasay, father is pinoy citizen, mom is HK citizen. Jennifer, the problem is most of travel insurers do not specify if they cover covid 19 treatment for 35.000$! They cover even up to 5mln $ for example but I could not find anywhere any mention particularly about covid! However I just bought normal travel insurance and had no issues at the border in March at Cebu airport 😎

      I will answer in her behalf, she had explained that in most of her previous videos. If you hold a foreign passport, for instance US or Canada but you were previously a Philippine passport holder and certified born in the Philippines, you can present your birth certificate duly authenticated by the Philippine Statistics office, or if you have kept your old Philippine passports you can also present it. I hope that explains well to you.

    it should be stressed that if your coming from a country that is NOT sharing covid-19 certificates with the Philippine you MUST get the WHO vaccine card (Yellow card)... i learned that at the counter of a Qatar Airline check-in. I'm an American with Saudi vaccine record with 2 Pfizer shots plus a Pfizer booster and was denied check-in. Massively disruptive.

I on the other hand am a Dual Citizen and so is my daughter so I get that we are exempted. But I was just wondering how the process would be for my grandmother. Thank you in advance for your reply!

    Since IATF keeps insisting of having travel insurance for travelers then the IATF must order hospitals or clinic to accept insurance instead of demanding cash deposit prior to treatment. Bibili nga ako ng insurance tapos di naman tatanggapin ng hospitals pag nagkasakit ako so what's the use? Unlike in US no cash payment involves before and after treatment.
