1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible

Out of the museum collection is our 1968 Shelby GT500KR Convertible. This Highland Green exterior and Saddle interior example is one of only 318 made that year. The GT500KR uses a 428 Police Interceptor V8, making 335 horsepower. Transmissions available were a four-speed manual or a C6 automatic transmission. While out for annual maintenance, we wanted to share this second-year GT500 Mustang.

My dad had one from new. His dad worked as a purchaser for ford and knew Carroll personally and had him over for dinner a lot. My grandpa lived in dearborn and raised his son and daughter there until it turned into Dearbornistan. He had a candy apple red with the Lincoln Trans. It would still slam you in the seat easy. He actually saw one parked at the Detroit yacht club 14 years ago and it had the top down. The guy left the alternator switch on and my dad reached into it and turned it off.
