Confession time: I never knew there was such a thing as a Lindy Hop competition, but I'm also very happy to know there is one. I admire the skill of the competitors and I think I'm exhausted from watching them too...
THE FIRST BEAUTIFUL DANCING WAS PERFORMED BY THE WOMAN OF COLOR IN A BEAUTIFUL DRESS AND HER PARTNER A WHITE MAN WHO WERE PERFECTLY SUITED TO DANCING TOGETHER. I HAVE BEEN A DANCER FOR MUCH OF MY LIFE. I AM 80 NOW. THERE WERE ONE OR TWO MORE I RATHER LIKED THEIR STYLE OF DANCING, BUT THE LADY IN THE BLUE DRESS AND HER PARTNER WON HANDS DOWN.
Wanted to comment on Matt Richey, the heavy-set blonde dancer who wears sutis 2:38. I advise the viewers to not be fooled by his understated dancing. In general, he plays more of a traditional role in swing-dance where he sort leads or "anchors" the girl through the routine, while the chick actually does all the moves and tricks. One might perceive this as less exciting, but remember, in his tendency to lead, he inadverdently ACCENTUATES his partner. It's a simple issue of contrast. Male and female, Yin & Yang. But this does not mean that his dancing is "boring" or "un-inspired" compared to the others. He has grace, form, poise, fexability and style that he integrates as PART of the whole performance. There is a REASON he is in a high-profile competition like this. I challenge International Lindy-hop to get Matt dance with the eccentric Nils Andre, letting Nils take the role of the girl! Nils is also much smaller than Matt, so he would finally have the chance to be flipped into the air for once. Given their contrasting styles, I think it would make headlines. Nils and Bianca--you out there? I know you would do it.
Nils Andren and Bianca Locatelli of Sweden won. They're the couple in gold, brown, and argyle. Results: static1.squarespace.com/static/5bbde4db4d87115276138841/t/5bd8b34721c67c4b9f1f5d8e/1540928327932/ILHC-2018-All-Star-Strictly-Lindy-Hop-Finals-Results.pdf
