what an incredible poem. the first line already took my breath away. i also loved the way this was read, the attention to the line breaks and space between verses. i wish i had more to say, but the poem stands for itself. definitely entered my all time favourites-list. thank you for sharing.
It’s my dad’s first death anniversary this Friday, on his birthday. I needed this. Thanks for making me (and I’m sure others) feel seen. ♥️ Keeping this in my back pocket for good.
So much emotion captured in those words. Thank you for sharing
This is one of the most astounding poems I have ever heard
incredible. no words.
beautiful and haunting
DAMN! I got emotional even before he started reading the poem, just from the description. And then it hit me like a truck. That ending. Just, wow
what a fantastic poem. It really captures the fear and grief of death while also somehow the acceptance of it. Kudos mr. Seibles
I just turned 64, and this poem spoke powerfully to me. Unlike the author, my father didn't make it to 64. That whole year when I reached his death age I sent out feelers until I came to the exact age when I matched his last day -- 62 years, 9 months, and 12 days-- heaving a strangled sigh on day 13.
This is just wonderful. So full of imagery. Thank you for sharing it.
What a breathtaking poem! The reading is phenomenal. I especially love the attention to the line breaks and gravely voice. It is both full of grief and also acceptance and realism. Thank you so much for sharing.
that was beautiful. And those last lines were just perfect
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing your words with us. I just started a job as a hospice social worker and I treasure these words in their expression of death and all it’s accompanying feelings
Wow. Absolutely beautiful poem from start to finish, really love it.
Simply astonishing, and so full of true moments. Truth following on truth, unavoidable yet somehow comforting, and comfortable. I’m 53. I can only hope this poem will stay with me for a kong time. I can only hope to express my love for people in my life, and for my life, a fraction as beautifully. 💜
A beautiful poem, especially the way he builds it through the recitation of everyday events that become the web that ties us to the ones we love, all the while knowing that we are destined to lose each other along the way.
One of the best poems I’ve ever read
How beautifully read, wonderful work!
My heart broke at "the man who used to be here"
Incredible. Thank you!
Stunning!
Thank you
This reminds me of the sentiment of Talking Heads' 'Heaven':
There is a party
Everyone is there
Everyone will leave
At exactly the same time
Right now i feel like i am dying, And i feel like writing' spoiler warning' for anyone who might read this after i am dead. Thank you for you work.
Mr Seibles, how are you? I fondly remember your classes. your student - Jim Siegel
VERY often I find myself wanting to read the poem after it's been narrated - same as how I like reading song lyrics written down alongside the lyrics video - because it ties it together better in my minds eye. Having it read is really nice, I'd like to also read it alone too. I wonder whether it's possible to have it posted in the comments...?
