The purple cuberdons are the only ones we eat normally. The other tastes are really recent. The Jules Destrooper Waffles, are known as the new year waffles (lukken). That’s when we eat those typically. The (warm) Brussels waffles we mostly eat at home or at a restaurant but not with the touristy stuff on it: with some sugar, a dot of whipped cream and sometimes with a little bit of vanilla ice cream. Liège waffles (Luikse wafels) are eaten - freshly baked and warm - on the street. They need nothing with it (only tourists add chocolate and other stuff to it) Babelutten are from Veurne and I went to the store there 30 years ago (they were 15 cm long sticks). Leonidas are good price/quality chocolates. But truffles are not what is typically bought and more heavy on the stomach. Pralines like ‘Manon’ etc are different and more sophisticated. Fries are typically eaten with mayonnaise. The typical chips tastes are salt and paprika (croky and lays are most bought).

Thank you so much for this info! You've written so much helpful stuff that typical tourists (like us!) have a hard time figuring out on our own... we absolutely loooved Belgium, and are definitely planning to go back, and now we'll know better what to do next time, thanks to you! ❤️ -K

Flemish is Dutch. But we also have german speaking part in Belgium 🙂 Also sugar is addictive in itself. You made a mistake with calling the fries "french fries". And you should not have gotten aioli. That's not a good choice. You kinda have to go for Mayo, curry ketchup, tartar sauce any of those. Andalouse was solid choice too 🙂
Brussels waffles are a lot better than Luikse waffles btw. Liege waffles are sugar waffles with pieces of sugar in it.
You picked a weird flavour chip from a French supermarket store btw 🙂

The way US candy is made has nothing to do with this video... these were our opinions, based on a taste test, not a comparison to other countries, so that's irrelevant... and admittedly, I'm embarassed how often I said the words "french fries" in this video, but that's what I'm used to calling them... no one is perfect, everyone is still learning, and that's ok! -K

Carrefour is a French brand not Belgian. And you tasted the worst pralines. Neuhaus are so much better, for me the best in the world . And they have some others who are so much better. We have been on a chocolate tour and Leonidas even if it’s decent chocolate was the worst of all. Marrie not sure how you spell it was insane, Marcolini, Corne, and some locals were so good.

We definitely know we tried not the *best* chocolates - we just didn't wanna break the bank for pralines! 🙈 And interesting about Carrefour - of course, since parts of Belgium speak french, it's hard at first glance to differentiate between french-speaking and literally french... but also, the store wasnt so important, just the fact that it had the right snacks! Thanks for watching anyway!! Besides the pralines, do you have any other recs for the next time we go?? -K

@@KandJPolte I am actually Italian living in Milano but we go to Belgium for Tomorrowland every year and now spending the Christmas holidays there with my family. Belgium has a lot of amazing food too. Not so much variety as Italian food, but that’s normal for such a small country. Mussels is a must try. They have the best recipe of making them in the world. They have some kind of stew dish with a brown sauce, it’s so great and tasty. Not sure how it’s called. Especially with fries. And a dish called American preparee. When we were going to Tomorrowland this year we stopped in a cute town called Silly in Wallonia. In general Italians are able to understand French quite well, I speak it fluent but we had no clue what American preparee was. The waitress and adorable young girl trying to explain it in English to my friends and she said. It’s fresh made American. My friend was teasing her and said: real American, she said yes fresh from today. 🤣🤣 I explained her in French what she told us and she had the giggles for an hour. American is actually minced meat from steak that you eat raw with fries. But it’s really delicious. Belgium has so many stunning places to visit that aren’t packed with tourists. Bruges, Ghent, Leuven, Antwerp, Dinant, Namur, Durbuy,.. I have seen most countries in Europe and Belgium is really the hidden gem for me. I prefer it by far over the Netherlands and Germany. The only negative thing is the weather. You never know what you will get.

@GianniDN this is such great info, thank youuu! We took our first trip to Beligium this spring, and had a week only - we got to visit Brussels, Bruges, and Ghent and I really fell in love with Belgium in general (there's a whole video from our trip - would love for you to watch and comment things we missed!) We would definitely classify Belgium as a place we'd love to go back to, especially simce a week can barely scratch the surface! -K
