i was kinda hesitant at some points during the fight (you'll find these spots with ease)
but hell i still survived with everyone alive :D

A hard final boss is hard.
MOTHER final bosses are heart-rendering fights to keep your party alive as you indirectly cause the boss mental trauma through singing / praying / reminding it of its past and how you are its brother.
That is what makes the MOTHER video games truly a work of art.

The berserk series also takes reference to this irl truth of the vibrations and ideas being planes of energy, you dont beat earthbound bosses because they are beyond mortal 3d. You change their tune so to say, you make them change by talk no jutsu because energy cant be created or destroyed but matter can, the cycle of pain, giygas remanifesting in others, possession..you cant punch a stand made of fog jotaro type vibes-as humans are truly multiplane due to our souls and given consciousness from God. We can punch the metaphorical fog with waves/pk/holy trinity balanced in your self but only Holy Spirit working through the well trained and honorable and humbled and matured(our party in each game) can change the bad vibe of Giygas because all the mother villians are just sad, they were hurt and hurt people hurt, hurt people. Healing them is the only fix and that is the truest thing of all, to engage, purifiy and walk away clean and threat gone. Christ forgives and saves but the hurt/villians know they are wrong. They end up insane and unhealed like Porky if not saved

I guess it's a matter of interpretation but I felt Giegue fleeing was better than if you had actually destroyed him on the spot, you exploit its emotions, its memories, its love for Maria. It can't bring itself to finish its mission, but everything Giegue's race has put into it is still there, all its hubris and hatred that it cannot bring itself to act on because of a simple lullaby. There's also something distinctly Lovecraftian at play, an alien invader with powers beyond human comprehension and understanding driven back temporarily but not destroyed, not truly bested.

I'd argue that 0:03 is by far one of the most iconic scenes in Mother history. It's intimidating and you sit in awe as you wait for Giegue to reveal himself.

I never thought I would freak out so much in this final boss. I knew a lot of spoilers from Mother 2, but none from this one. I never thought I would sweat fighting an static boss battle screen.

What's so funny is how giegue's attack sounds in the beginning. I never heard the pitch go that high before.

I find the boss of the Mother series very interesting. It's unique in his backstory and how you defeat him, usually by using a special ability (usually based on the concept of love or friendship, cheesy though it may be).
(Spoiler to Mother 2)
Example: You have to use SING to defeat Giegue (which, by the way, was the initial translation of Giygas) and you have to use Paula's PRAY in the SNES game Earthbound (Mother 2) to defeat Giygas's final form. I don't know how it works in Mother 3.

it had something to do with the translation during that time when the game was being localized, i can't remember the exact details
The weird thing is, in the Earthbound fight, giygas is EVERYWHERE. like air, which is a *gas*.
Well, his name in the original MOTHER is Gyiyg (in fact, it still is).
EB0's localization was actually mostly done back in the 1980s, so these translators transliterated the palindromic "Gyiyg" into a version that looks more natural in English, "Giegue".
Earthbound's localization team decided to take more liberties than the EB0 team did (in order to make the game feel more enjoyable to English speakers). Part of this included renaming characters, such as renaming "Porky" to "Pokey", and yes, "Giegue" to "Giygas".

I think it's fitting. Fighting an alien should have alien sounding music and a high pitched whine fits that. I do agree though that it could have had a little more variation rather than playing the same annoying sound over and over again.

When you fight giygas in Earthbound, there is a form of Giygas where he starts swirling and you see "mini giygases". If you look real closely during that form, you can see a shilouette of a baby. How can you agree that that isn't scary?

because back then before we finally got Mother 1 with it's official title it had to be referred as something else, so Earthbound 0/Zero pretty much became the title among fans up until like it's official release a couple years back or so

Figure i would post this question here. Emulator keeps crashing after the opening(NesterJ1.12 Plus 0.61, for PsP) Any fix for this?
If not, not big deal to use an emulator on my PC, just prefer to take games on the go.
