It was the secondary and the D line that made that defense work. Hammerstein and Messner were phenomenal rush tackles, especially given Messner's size. And that was one of the best secondaries we've ever put on the field.
I would love to see UM go on the road now and play a Tennessee or Auburn in September. Maybe we will get more of that now with the expanded playoff...
Thank you Wolverine Historian. Your work is appreciated.
Man i miss those 80s TV graphics, fonts and music. Good stuff. :-)
Awesome video, thanks for posting. I was at this game and am excited for my Gamecocks to finally get a rematch with Big Blue in the Outback Bowl.
I did. I'm in the process of getting a better copy. The one I have has some drives missing.
"Red Dawn Ronnie"!!! Big Bad Bill...
Suddenly relevant again, 32 years later.
This goes out to Will Musckump and all his little Rho Chapter boys from Maple St. In the Shandon area of Columbia, SC. Should have known better...pig roast!!!
85 Wolverines should have won 🏆Natty
One of my favorite UM games. South Carolina had the famed "Fire Ants" defense. They ran to the downed ball carrier and would step on him or try to intimidate. UM shoved it up their ass on the 1st drive and was never headed. Turned them into the "Piss Ant" defense, and showed them big boy defense.
USC's option defense was horrific. Nobody covered the QB.
Nice to see my dad get jumped by Jaime Morris at
Here we go Forrest Hill Cemetery,...and a beautiful woman named "Cat". Fireants%%%
