Good one Trev. I’m 59 today. Fine health. Is there a big difference in getting coverage this year when I’m not there full time vs after turning 60 when I’ll be there full time?
From what I can glean, most people get in trouble when they have a major health condition that requires expensive care (like big C, heart attack, stroke etc). To make health insurance affordable, I take a high excess/deductible of 300k ฿ and have cover for 5M ฿. I take the view that I will pay myself for lesser issues. I am in my 60s and doing that the premium is under 30,000 ฿ per annum with a major insurer (PC).

Please understand many health or travel insurance policies, does not accept claims when under the influence of Alcohol too, so a lot to think about, when abroad. 🤔🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@jacklevy2982 Most likely depends on who is responsible for the incident Jack. If you are under the influence of either, and walk out in front of a car, would you expect the drivers insurer to fetch the bill. 100s of people go to hospital in Pattaya with broken limbs from falling down, and blame the state of the paths, and not the alcohol. I recently witnessed this in Jomtien, and the poor old man had been drinking, and could not claim a penny, from a huge hospital bill, even though he was fully insured. In the UK, we pay into the NHS, so would get treated either way, without a bill. A private treatment may have a different policy though, if you were using a health insurer, so you have the choice of both. Good point to raise, though. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
And in your country what would the outcome be Here it would be arguable by a proficient broker, and lots to consider such as the degree of intoxication , the extent of the injury the condition of the driver eye witness accounts and others. Accidents differ. But compensation can be arguable if the victim is a pedestrian ufas he is not breaking any laws It is more difficult if the driver is drunk!!
I know far too many elderly (and overweight) expats in Pattaya who have no health insurance at all. They are living day to day on pensions that barely get them by. And, those are the guys (there are LOTS of them) who sit in the bars for hours nursing beers with their mates because they can't really afford to do anything else. Yes, health insurance is expensive as we get older but the lower living costs in Thailand more than cover the cost. One issue that was not covered in the video is this: Consider full "nomad" insurance that will cover you virtually everywhere in the world just in case you travel within Thailand or neighboring countries. The US is the exception because health care is so bloody expensive there. If you do go to the US, get US specific travel insurance for the duration of your stay there.

Well I went back to where the commotion was and they were giving CPR etc. to a young woman. (This is what they HAVE to do in these situations.) She was a Thai and in her twenties and had a young English husband who was freaking out, understandably. She was gone. (When you know, you know.) So. I took it upon myself to look after him. To calm and reassure, etc. One thing that came out in our conversation was that they had no insurance! The 'plane was diverted to India for the pair of them to be disembarked. How he got on, I don't know but it struck me that with insurance, which wouldn't have been expensive due to their young age, 'things' would have been a lot easier......... A sad story. True though.

@@Buzzinpattaya I have no doubt that you do have what you need, sorry for asking, just thought you could give more feedback and insight in terms of policies, scope of coverage and or reimbursement/honouring of previous claims as well as the potential of no claims bonuses, out of pocket deductibles and premium increases over time. As was mentioned in the vlog, private health insurance is individual and there is no cookie cutter solution, just thought I might ask if you did want to share first hand how satisfied are with the local offering and what on you based your decisions in terms of scope and sum of coverage. Nevertheless I have no doubt that Macallan is a reputable firm and will consult personally with them in future. I also know of a few expats that self insure due to pre-existing conditions and or their age making the premiums too high for them. Calculated or unavoidable risk regrettably for some.
I got it as soon as the tickets were booked.. not even a second thought was required. Hell Ive already got prescription meds with a Drs note just in case..
Well-meaning. Anyone who is young and healthy should definitely take out health insurance. However, the typical emigrant aged 65 and over with multiple previous illnesses always only has limited insurance cover at horrendous prices due to various exclusions from benefits. One can only hope, not know, whether the insurance will pay in the event of a claim. Very often, you will be accused of breaching your pre-contractual obligation to notify and, in the event of a claim, payment will be refused. Private health insurance is not social insurance and its purpose is not to help you, but to make money for the insurance company. Alternative? Selfinsurance by at least 1 million baht in the bank account.
Who told you this gold about self insurance. If there is no underwritten contract it can't be defined as insurance. It's just individuals paying bills.
The problem is if you have the slightest of a pre existing medical condition the insurance is useless. The insurer will find some loophole to not cover you. The Thailand government needs to set up a expat insurers scheme to be affordable and cover all pre existing medical conditions for all expats.
@@Buzzinpattaya Hey Trev, get a petition going for Thailand government expat health insurance, you'll get 100,000 + signatures easy. Let's say 50 000 baht per annum for basic cover, regardless of pre existing medical conditions. I'd gladly pay that.
$1200 to $2000 USD per year might sound like a lot. But considering that here in the US you could easily be paying that much per month. Not such a bad deal.
I agree... cost of private hospital care is cheap in Thailand compared to US. Mind you, the US is the most expensive system in the world. It is all relative I suppose.
I maybe wrong.. but For Americans this insurance seems fine for a short term stay... But a health insurance policy from this agency wont satisfy the MANDATE insurance needed for USA tax purposes. I plan to pension next year and move to thailand I will be 60 years old, I'm too young for medicare so I'll need to purchase Cigna global or blue cross which is expensive, but its the only way to be insured in the US and thailand. Brits are fortunate as they have universal healthcare and no need to worry..they can just get this thai insurance..so its cheaper for Brits than Americans..unless the american is 65 or older.
Wow! The Government hospitals sound just as bad as the UK NHS! Who’d have thought! I’d love to hear how much the premiums go up over the years. How much a year for an 85 year old?
Not true. My 38 year old Thai partner fell seriously ill with a smoking related illness and sadly died in Banglamung Hospital. Far superior to any NHS Hospital. Cost of treatment, including in intensive care, was covered by the state. I only had to pay for tests and medication. Total cost under £1,000. Something to think about if you have a Thai partner. Don't know what happens if your partner is Laos etc.
@@Buzzinpattaya - Yes, but how expensive? None of the videos I ever saw on this subject tell you anything about being over 50’s. If you’re planning to retire that’s useless. You need to know how it will go up over several decades so that you can plan for it. Is it the case that it becomes non-viable after a few years in and you just self insure? If so, why not do that from the start when the risk of falling ill is much lower?
I got bitten by a dog near Kalasin. I attended the local hospital in Na Mon. I got anti rabies jabs no problem, but at no time did any Dr. or nurse look at the site of the dog bite. It cost me 1600 bt for the jabs 10 in all.
@@mythai9593 yes I managed to see the card they registered the jabs on. I did ask why they seemed quite cheap and was told basically they can charge what they want do was quite fortunate in that respect.
The conundrum. Go to Thailand or any other country of your choice to retire. Do you want to stay long term? Jump through numerous hoops to get one of the various visas. Then you must(?) provide proof of health insurance. If you are 75 or older, most insurance companies will not provide coverage. And if they do the premiums are outrageous, often equaling 50% or more of your monthly budget. 75? That's a good retirement age these days. People don't live longer, they just don't die as young as before. There are no 130 year old people out there and very few that are even 100+ y.o. So yea...go to country X to retire because the cost of living is lower than your country of residence. BUT just don't go there if you get old enough to actually retire.
People are trying to run legitimate businesses, yet these expat trolls drive around intimidating proprietors and spreading negative thai dissent via comments on the internet. Just give up! People are trying to provide services to the public.
Did Thailand just announce free health insurance for tourists. Granted not much but something Thailand's new initiative, the Thailand Traveller Safety scheme, offers up to $14,000 medical coverage for accidents. It aims to entice backpackers back amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, addressing the issue of inadequate insurance coverag
Think the costs of living in Thailand out way the benefits living there unless u have alot of savings theres no way u can live there with the amount of money you need for the visas then health insurance there other countries easier to stay and live there without needing the finances .
@@Buzzinpattaya come for holidays but thats it costs out weight the need to live there other country's are alot easier to live in .I would need £50000 to emergate to Thailand with health Insurance and money for visas .what the bar go go girls demand for bar fines and salarys is crazy so costs girls demand out weight living there .
well if you waste your money on prostitutes then obviously that’s going to cost a lot more, probably double or triple a living amount that is actually needed. A retirement visa costs about £1k to acquire and about £500 to renew yearly thereafter. Not exactly a huge amount.
All companies that I know of treat S. T. D's as a General Exclusion. Look under the General Exclusion section of your policy and it is there in not so fine print along with intentionally self inflicted injury.
Hope it goes well I do not know Safety Wing but as long as they get the original receipts and medical certificates you should be ok Contact me directly if you need advice
The kind of medical facilities u will get in Thailand under full medical insurance, u have to pay a fortune in USA. And pre n post care also cheap in Thailand.
As stated by other bloggers It's purely about profit especially if you are farang Rule of thumb Doctors first Pharmacy next Aspirin or Warfarin unless bone 🦴 sticking out Next plane
If course profit is a consideration I run a business, not a charity the same as restaurants 7-11s and hospitals. before they take your blood pressure that can make a 20 - 30 point difference but that is almost never the case, so instead

give me a bit of time to calm down 10 minutes should be enough .
then you should ideally put wireless earbuds in to block out outside noise (you can play relaxing or meditation music or sounds )
close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing , think my body is relaxed my arms and legs feel relaxed .
i know its not always possible especially when you had an accident
but if it is possible take your time to lower your blood pressure

before their blood pressure gets measured because they literally ground pilots over a certain threshold

Nice one mate
Sage advice mate, absolute must have.
Cheers mate
Yes I agree 😂😂. Thank you.
What a nice bloke, I suffer from high blood pressure, well, 140+ anyway, plus type 1 diabetes so that cuts me out of basically everything lol
Cheers mate
Good day to everybody and always keep in mind that 1 fresh coconut a day keeps the doctor away.

That's what I thought

Call AA Insurance Brokers. Ask for Wim.
I think so mate, ask....
We do in
We do travel insurance also
How much 3 weeks holiday insurance please?@@jacklevy2982
That's great. Easy to recover amounts needed if good health leaves you. Couples discount? Haha. Good stuff.
So true you just can't trust these insurance companies as for most they are nothing more than a rort.
So it is a rort even tho it helps so many people. Great info keep it coming.
Gotcha, these details are sketchy...
Who told you this gold about self insurance. If there is no underwritten contract it can't be defined as insurance. It's just individuals paying bills.
Tanks Trev.....great help....ya naild it again...😂😂😂
cheers mate
Great Video
Thank you
Thanks mate
Yes
If you are travelling here for a. Short time no pun intended travel insurance is a good idea.
We offer a range of options including AXA.
If you think your fraudulent insurance behaviours go unoticed buy photo-shop toss your cloudy mirror.
Again what you have just said is totally fraudulent plus illegal pal, grow up.
I agree stop bombing us with lies
Where is it fraudulent ?
Where is it a lie?
Travel insurance IS a good idea!!
Obviously you can't understand certain things. This makes you excited.
I was bitten last week by a dog in hua hin, just processing a claim with safety wing for 18k baht, hoping it goes well
Hope you are okay mate
The problem is if you have the slightest of a pre existing medical condition the insurance is useless. The insurer will find some loophole to not cover you. The Thailand government needs to set up a expat insurers scheme to be affordable and cover all pre existing medical conditions for all expats.
Gotcha mate
@@Buzzinpattaya Hey Trev, get a petition going for Thailand government expat health insurance, you'll get 100,000 + signatures easy. Let's say 50 000 baht per annum for basic cover, regardless of pre existing medical conditions. I'd gladly pay that.
Wouldn't most people over 50 have some sort of pre existing condition?
@Regi869 Exactly, the insurer will say ,yeah we'll cover you, until they don't.
Agree will exclude almost everything so only an accident will be covered
$1200 to $2000 USD per year might sound like a lot. But considering that here in the US you could easily be paying that much per month. Not such a bad deal.
I agree... cost of private hospital care is cheap in Thailand compared to US. Mind you, the US is the most expensive system in the world. It is all relative I suppose.
WOW! per month!!!
It is the liability that inflates the prices
Good info Trev
Thanks 👍
Darn! Missed the podium today. Too many 🍻 beers last night 😔 🥴
haha good man
I maybe wrong.. but For Americans this insurance seems fine for a short term stay... Brits are fortunate as they have universal healthcare and no need to worry..they can just get this thai insurance..so its cheaper for Brits than Americans..unless the american is 65 or older.
thanks for sharing
Enjoyed this
Thanks mate much appreciated
Thank you
Great info you both 👌
Glad you think so!
Happy to advise any time
Salut Trev. Informative video😃👍
Thanks mate
Excellent video.
Thank you very much!
Thank you
Wow! The Government hospitals sound just as bad as the UK NHS! Who’d have thought! I’d love to hear how much the premiums go up over the years. How much a year for an 85 year old?
85 year old will be expensive
Was it a pack of dogs. So unlucky.
@@Ablett_Gary 4 dogs came from behing a house. 3 tan towards me. The 4th ran behing me and bit me on the lower left leg.
Are you sure they were Rabies jabs, I was quoted 10,000bt after a dog bite.
@@mythai9593 yes I managed to see the card they registered the jabs on. I did ask why they seemed quite cheap and was told basically they can charge what they want do was quite fortunate in that respect.
Good mate
Your experience of government hospitals in Thailand sounds like UK NHS hospitals 2024
gotcha mate
Great vid🎉
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you 😅
Bringing kids on the policy, they're not a worry.
Okay
Gotcha
People are trying to run legitimate businesses, yet these expat trolls drive around intimidating proprietors and spreading negative thai dissent via comments on the internet. Just give up! People are trying to provide services to the public.
I get ya
Thank you
We are proud of the service we provide to thousands of Expats and their families 😊
2000 dollars to some xpats there is life insurance........ To eat and drink
gotcha
I had less than an hour.
I mentioned the most popular options
There are cheaper,and dearer,alternatives.

He is very knowledgeable
Thank you for that.

Also if you are 70.. you can't get health insurance
ok
Did Thailand just announce free health insurance for tourists. Granted not much but something
Thailand's new initiative, the Thailand Traveller Safety scheme, offers up to $14,000 medical coverage for accidents. It aims to entice backpackers back amidst the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, addressing the issue of inadequate insurance coverag
Best to check with Jack
Shit! I'm freezing my ass off in Florida. Thank God for my London Fog Jacket!
Make's a man of you does it.
Lol
Think the costs of living in Thailand out way the benefits living there unless u have alot of savings theres no way u can live there with the amount of money you need for the visas then health insurance there other countries easier to stay and live there without needing the finances .
If you can't afford 2k a month then yeah don't come here
£2000?
@@Buzzinpattaya come for holidays but thats it costs out weight the need to live there other country's are alot easier to live in .I would need £50000 to emergate to Thailand with health Insurance and money for visas .what the bar go go girls demand for bar fines and salarys is crazy so costs girls demand out weight living there .
well if you waste your money on prostitutes then obviously that’s going to cost a lot more, probably double or triple a living amount that is actually needed. A retirement visa costs about £1k to acquire and about £500 to renew yearly thereafter. Not exactly a huge amount.
Thai doctors do not take the Hippocratic Oath.
Thailand doctors have there own oath.
And it does not mean the same thing.
Gotcha
The Thai govt thinks that one baht per visitor is sufficient to cover all those who are; unable to pay their hospital bills.
Gotcha mate

Dont lie when you fill out the forms.
Well said
It's not about lies it's just in the insurance companies dna to cheat their customers.
@panoskontos5359 No, it usually about people "forgetting" about things that might put them into a higher risk category.
I hope this health insurance agent is more reasonable than that Soi 6 visa guy.
Jack has been here many years
I am me
Is that reasonable enough?
I just went for a walk. There's all idiots loitering around the Gov's place of business what is wrong with these trolls!
Yeah I get ya mate
Im interested to no the fine print on sexual transmitted deseases.
Please ask directly
All companies that I know of treat S. T. D's as a General Exclusion. Look under the General Exclusion section of your policy and it is there in not so fine print along with intentionally self inflicted injury.
Just be professional when you see sum one who can find information about this "matter" its not a snoke

Accident insurance is affordable. Health insurance is not.
okay
Pretending to be ignorant, priceless.
The kind of medical facilities u will get in Thailand under full medical insurance, u have to pay a fortune in USA. And pre n post care also cheap in Thailand.
Looking forward to watching this video great topic to cover trev
When it’s needed, health insurance is dirt cheap, compared to the alternative.
As stated by other bloggers
It's purely about profit especially if you are farang
Rule of thumb
Doctors first
Pharmacy next
Aspirin or Warfarin
unless bone 🦴 sticking out
Next plane
If course profit is a consideration I run a business, not a charity the same as restaurants 7-11s and hospitals.
But we do not only sell insurance , we have a dedicated claim section in which we help people with claims and often get insurance companies to reverse or modify their original decisions
We do this as part of our customer service to Macallan clients
okay
