People really aren't what they seem a lot of the time. Every human has emotions. Some just hide them.

Well in order to wield the quicksword one must be more mentally strong than most

indeed, only 3 people had the mental "toughness" to do the Quick Sword:
(the Quick Sword could never be done by anyone, it is truly special, as the most powerful and TOP TIER advanced sword technique, requiring extreme mental "toughness" and also great Yoki control, as well too. Irene really truly was a rank 1 Claymore in power, but she was always under Teresa's shadow, poor Irene, lol. It's like with hall of famer Scottie Pippin always being under greater hall of famer michael jordan's shadow with the chicago bulls in basketball or hall of famer marcus allen always being under greater hall of famer bo jackson's shadow with the LA raiders in football, ya, I'm showing my age, with these "old school" sport examples, lol, meh)
      1. Irene of the Quick Sword
      2. Clare (thanks to Ophelia, teaching Clare that the same "raging/burning fire/heart/inferno" or whatever the phrase, it's been awhile, argh, that Irene had discounted, thinking that it prevented Clare from ever being able to do the Quick Sword, could be used/channeled/focused into being the mental "toughness" needed for doing the Quick Sword, grins. And not just doing the Quick Sword, truly controlling it fully 100%, which Irene herself couldn't even do, though she does seem to be able to control it a bit, despite saying that it's completely berserk, though maybe this is just an issue of inconsistency/over-look with such story-telling, that always occurs)
      3. Teresa of the Faint Smile (manga, wink, don't want to spoil any more)
and, while we have no proof, it's likely that....
      4. Rafaela
could also do the Quick Sword, based upon her being such a powerful character, but even she may not be able to, we just don't know, sadly

Teresa took care of Claire, protecting her, feeding her, loving her, kissing her like her real mother; that's why Claire wants the revenge for Teresa's murder.

The only mistake Teresa made in that confrontation was showing Priscilla mercy...that came back to bite her. And yours was underestimating Teresa's skills and your over reliability on an emotionally unstable & unready newbie Claymore (who in my opinion shouldn't have been promoted to the No. 2 position that young in the first place), which no surprise came back to royally bite you and your team in the ass.

So, Irene became Claire's teacher who taught Claire how to use quick sword.

They find Teresa and Clair, Ilena and Priscilla both initially fight her one on one without success, then it becomes a 4 on 1 with them using 10% yoki while Teresa doesn't use any. Ilena gets incapacitated followed quickly by Sophia and Noel, Priscilla gets disarmed and freezes up in fear, Teresa almost beheads her but shows mercy instead, Teresa and Clare leave, Priscilla throws an over 70% yoki empowered fit and leaves the others behind to confront Teresa again,

to be honest...i blame Teresa's death on Irene. my reason is because Irene kept telling Priscilla to forget her morals and that she needs to do whatever it takes to kill Teresa, that it forced Priscilla to lose her humanity. Priscilla wasnt a fighter she needed to convince herself that Teresa was the monster that killed her father. Priscilla wouldnt had turned or went crazy at the very least she would had probably just sat there crying. everything could had happen so differently with everyone surviving or Priscilla being the only one dead but Irene went and pushed Priscilla completely forgetting that she's new to this life. the others who was with them werent any better.

That's actually the conclusion Irene arrives at in the manga. She admits that she didn't take into account Priscilla's mental state during the conflict and pushed her too far due to her promotion. If she had withdrawn and taken the time to train Priscilla the way she did for Clare, a tragedy like that might never had happened.
As much as the story wants you to sympathize with Teresa, I sympathize with Priscilla a lot more. Her whole life was suffering from start to finish.

Teresa saved Clare from bandits as a kid killing them, It's against Claymore rules to kill humans and the penalty for violating that is death, she immobilizes the low ranking group sent to execute her, Organization gets pissed off and sends Priscilla (No. 2) Irene also know as Ilena (former No. 2 demoted to No. 3. all four were demoted because of how arrogantly special the Org thought Priscilla was) Noel (Former No. 3 demoted to No. 4) and Sophia (Former No. 4 demoted to No. 5) to kill her.

Slightly overpowers Teresa causing her to fight at 10% yoki, Priscilla gets the floor wiped with her ass dumbstrucking her companions, she surpasses her limit can't change back and begs Teresa to give her a mercy killing which Teresa to drop her guard and stop using yoki, Priscilla cuts Teresa's arms off, beheads her and awakens, Ilena tries to confront her and loses in arm in one swing, Noel & Sophia attack and get impaled to death, Priscilla then seemingly finishes off Ilena and leaves.

It's my belief that Teresa died because her love for Claire softened her heart... and yet, the experience of her heart having been softened by Claire, was the one thing that Teresa truly desired, so while loving Claire cut her life short, it made it worthwhile.
    I think it's a wonderfully beautiful message.

XD Teresa's skill as a warrior declined?! My ass it did, your just trying to cover your embarrassed butt for being beat so easily. Remind me who it was that first fell in that battle? oh yeah, it was you. And Priscilla? I think your exact words were "If we're able to stop her. How does one even begin to battle against such a fantastic unbridled power like that?" -_- Teresa effortlessly beats down Priscilla using only 10% of her yoki power to Priscilla's well over 70% empowered temper tantrum.

I don't think that's what she meant. When Teresa was fighting the other claymores she didn't kill any of them. when she easily could have. maybe she didn't want to. During the battle with Priscilla awakening she let her guard down for moment out of sympathy. I think Teresa would have just lopped her head off no second thought about it if Clair wasn't relevant.

Indeed. It was Teresa's tactical decisions (not landing killing blows instantly, when this is exactly what the other claymores expected from her, and what we as the viewers expect from her) that indicate that Claire had weakened Teresa's combat skills.
The willingness to be efficient, despite the pain caused to others, is a component of combat skill.
How skillful would a boxer be if that boxer couldn't bring himself to inflict damage? In the judgement of the crowd, the boxing refs, everyone, the boxer who was paralyzed by moral conviction is paralyzed in their ability to effectively box.

@Tubeman244 I think that Irene means that meeting Clare changed Teresa's personality thats why Teresa showed mercy towards pricilla, if only she didnt meet Clare Teresa would not hesitate to kill someone like Pricilla, thats what Irene meant Teresa's skill as a warrior declined.

Gaara Rules & Brian Mangan I agree. Teresa lost her edge as a fighter ONLY because her kill or be killed mentality lessened. She had Priscilla at her mercy despite technically fighting blind (Teresa’s special ability according to Irene is to sense yoki energy in a yoma or a fellow claymore before they move or attack, and is able to react on time). She empathized with Priscilla being so young much like Clare, that she showed mercy and like Irene stated, the old Teresa wouldn’t have hesitated.
