ABOUT THIS VIDEO :-
In this video Er. Akash Bohare & Corporate Trainer of Civil Guruji (Civil Engineers Training Institute) is Explaining About Basic Rules for Lapping length in Column - Lap length in RCC Column
When we provide lapping in a column, all the rebars should be lapped in zone-B as shown in the drawing. The top and bottom portion of the column, i.e. zone-A ( L/4 length ) should be avoided as there will be a maximum moment in this zone due to lateral forces acting on the column.
If the length of the column is L, then the L/4 length from the top & bottom of the column is categorized as tension zone A and the center L/2 length of the column (zone B ) is considered a safe area for the lapping purpose.
All the bars that are lapped should be staggered within zone B as shown in the above drawing. In any case, not more than 50% of rebars should be lapped in the same level. If all the column bars are lapped at the same level, it leads to failure of the column.
The spacing of the stirrups in the lapping zone should be minimum when compared to the regular column c/c stirrup spacing.
If the designed regular spacing for the column stirrup is 175 c/c, then the spacing of stirrups in the lapping zone maybe 150 c/c or 125 c/c as according to the column design.
As per IS code, if the bar diameter is greater than or equal to 36mm, then you should consider welding those bars instead of lapping. If welding is not possible, then you can lap these bars with an additional spiral of 6mm bar at the splice length.
For the rebars of diameter greater than 12mm, you can consider providing a joggle of 1 in 6. That means if the bar dia. is 20mm then the length of the joggled part of the bar can be calculated as
J = 6 ×Diameter of rebar
= 6 × 20mm = 120mm.
When we tye the rebars in the lapping zone, the joggled part of the bar should be placed over the inner surface of the bottom bar (as shown in the above drawing ) to get a uniform clear cover from the concrete surface.
If you tye the joggled portion of the rebar over the outer surface of the bottom bar, then the lapping zone invades the concrete cover area provided for the bars.
Sir you are really a experience holder. I am happy that i am your subscriber. I hope you will continue to bring such videos.

I am thankful for knowledgeable video. I have one query , I am constructing house there is column shifted in retaining wall while basement shuttering , now ground floor column is out now rebar should be from basement or Frist floor level. Which is correct one.
Thanks sir....khup mast details sanghitale lapping zone
Many concepts clearl just in one vedeo, thanks sir.

Good detailed video.Thanks
Column is the most important part of structure
Very informative and useful post subject to lap, please upload next video so that purpose of this video will be best, don't delay.regards.
Masha allah. Great.
But U r provided lap on L/4 junction. As per rule lap are provide after L/4.
Means =3200 clear distance then we provide lap above 800mm means 800+lap length
you are right.....
but in this video it shows lapping in non lap zone
it's wrong.....
Could you upload a video how they make the jackle aligned?
I keep seeing the crank/jackle getting out of alignment each time the stirrups/ties is fitted on the column.
Sir please use imperial units as it is more convenient for engineers as well as clients.
Pranaam Civil Guruji. Please make video on Shuttering of Stairs
informative ..thank you
Sir if the beam is setting eccentric except the center of the column then what should be the size of the column at that time.
If the only 40cm length available above the ground floor slab column.
Can you please advice me about the lap lengths is ok for the first floor to second columns.
Aapka vedio bht hi ACHA hai..
Great knowledge ke saat
Good analysis👍
Excellent concept
The top most important learning platform is here for civil engg.I can guess that how much your team is dedicate, passionate to provide the knowledge to others that's why the channel has not been monetized till now.U r Great Sir. 🙏🙏
O course bech k paisa chhapte hain... Sab business hai
Well done Akash bhai ✅
Sir this video very helpful
Thanks sirji super video
Very good lecture
This one is mistake bro...lap should be at the mid section of the column. I mean rod must be cut at h/4 + lap length from the plinth beam. However, in this case, lap is not at the mid section.
Wahi to 800 mein hi lap kar dala isne ,
Lap should be in zone B. Either in mid or up and down but shall not enter in zoneA, that is L/4 from top and bottom
yes bro he made mistakes
Sahi bola bro, ye to khud hi galat sikha raha hai logo ko
True👍
Qty of Rate analysis in excel per video banaiye sir
Please sir
Shubham is topic par video available hai.. Please go on playlist to check

Welding will be use for lap joint,??
Sir, plz make a video on beam column junction as per IS 13920....
What will be the length or ratio required for Lap of joggle / what will be the joggle length ?
Nice lecture sir
thanks
Very nice 👍
Sir make video on retaining wall steel design
Clear Height between plinth beam top and roof beam bottom-11 feets
Zone-A-11/4=33 inches
Zone-B-11*12-66=132 -66=66 inches
There are 6 bars 16mm@4,12mm@2
At zone B top- 2 no of lappings
At zone B middle(30 inch below top lapping points)-3 no of lapping
At Zone B bottom (30 inch below middle lap point)-1 lapping
Whether the above arrangement is allowble?
Whether lintel tie beam can be provided any zone?
What if lintel tie beam falls on zone-A top area?
Sir mere 1st floor pe contrapctet ne galti ki, sirt Or sirt 1.5 feet hi steel ki length chhodi.... He to kya kar sakte he...
