I was fishing barely inside Lucerne Bay near the campground. I like the area starting at the north point of Lucerne to the area locals call “the reef”. These fish were all along the shoreline. The key is the technique not necessarily the “exact” spot. Good luck!
Thanks for your comment. I was fishing in the Lucerne Bay area in early May, 2018. The key was finding an area that had some shallow, rocky shoreline, and then a significant drop off out about 20 yards off shore.
I am going to go off the reservation with my reply to your great questions. First, in 2018, when I shot this video, I had two sets of rods, reels, and lines. What you saw there are: Allstar Rods out of Texas. And, a custom rod no longer made by Lamiglas out of Washington. The Lamiglas rod sold for close to $800 dollars retail. When we moved to Manila fulltime, I stopped using two different sets of tackle so here is what I use now and recommend for you. Rods: Gary Dobyns Rods in the Cold series to start out. They cost under $100 dollars and you should look at medium lite to medium as to the flex and 7' on the length.. I suggest you give them a call and have them help you figure out exactly what you might need. As for reels, I use Quantum reels and I really light the PT Accurist series. They cost less than $150 and if you look hard enough you can find them for around $120. As for line, my spinning outfits include Berkely NanoFil line in 6, 8. and 10-pound test. Then I use Sunline fluorocarbon leader in the same poundage. Thanks for watching and I hope this helps.
I was using 1/8 to 1/4 ounce "ball head" jig hooks that are pushed weight first into the tubes. I like to use a lubricant, in this case some crawdad or garlic scent on the ball head so they slide easily into the hook.
I used two tubes. One from Strike king called the "Bitsy Tube" 2.5 inches long, and a 3' tube from Dry Creek Outfitters, I can't remember the exact name. The key is having both colors and to tip them with tiny pieces of night crawlers. Also, I used 1/8-ounce gig hooks as well as 1/4-ounce. Use the heavier jig heads in wind. I hope that answers your question, and ... Good Luck!!
Please do not come to Flaming Gorge if you don’t live in Daggett County full time. Be Patient, stay home until we flatten the curve and the Governor removes travel restrictions!!
Your videos are always so instructional and entertaining. Thank you!

I loved this video and I was wondering are the hooks weighted that you are rigging the tube on?
Or what type of hook are you using
I was using 1/8 to 1/4 ounce "ball head" jig hooks that are pushed weight first into the tubes. I like to use a lubricant, in this case some crawdad or garlic scent on the ball head so they slide easily into the hook.
Don Allphin thanks so much that helps a ton
Were were you in this
