  • My front tire kept going flat toward the end of the season last year and my rear was bald. I decided it was time for tires. Here is how I got the wheels removed from this 2007 Honda Shadow Shaft Drive 750. I hope it is helpful. Thanks for watching!

    10:27 the shaft unit has the drive pins that are keeping your tire from being removed. Those pins are part of a plate that easily comes out of the shaft unit, then the wheel just comes out, no struggle. Something the manual states. ;)

    I use a 2X4 under the rear tire to raise/lower it instead of man handling it. Easier and lets you keep the other hand free for the twisting and lining up. But at least you posted a video while the rest of use arm chair coach. Good video. Thanks.

    It is watching you work on that bike without the right kind of jack, and then to see no anchoring to the handlebars that would stop it from falling over. You had a forklift sitting right there that would have been a little safer than jack stands, 2X4's and a floor jack. You did get the job done so kudos for that. I now have refreshed my memory on how it came apart, so again I thank you for that. It looks as though the front of the frame is just teetering on the 2X4's. I again want to thank you for sharing your video. I hope going forward that maybe a little more thought goes into SAFETY, so that you will be able to share many more of your helpful videos.

      Thanks for the response. I was not trying to be a smart ass just wanted more insite on your comment. The fork lift has no brakes so I’m not sure that would be safer. I only work on my own bike so buying a lift for use once a year seems unnecessary. I made a short of rear tire install that would definatly make u crimge and give you even more info. Hub came off with rear wheel. Much easier. Thanks again for the comment and reply.

    I am about to do this to my back tire. I think after watching you and the difficulty getting the tire to squeeze out and back in, I will attempt to use a clamp on the tire to narrow it and see if that makes a difference on getting it to fit out and in between the rear arms and drive shaft. maybe a little cooking oil where the tire touches also. I will let you know how it went.

    No need for any grease on the axle? This is a very helpful video just a question I thought of.

  • @CenobiteBeldar
    @CenobiteBeldar 2 роки тому

    You can't loosen the axle nut before removing the brake caliper? I figure pulling in the front brake lever to lock the front wheel as you loosen the axle nut will make the axle nut losen better.

    Remove the rear lower shock bolts and the swing arm will drop below the exhaust and you will not have to remove the exhaust.

      Its easy. I actually unbolted those 4 bolts that attach the shaft to the drive just to get the tire out. Mine didnt pour oil out. Once you get the new tire on and those 5 pins aligned with the wheel assembly, you have to feed the shaft and slowly spin the tire in neutral til those gears seat properly. How you know its fully lined up is when it pushes all the way in onto the 4 bolt holes. I recommend threading the 4 nuts on snug too once you think its seated and put it in first and try to turn the rear tire. If it catches gear youll know its in. Be gental not to damage those gears on the head of the shaft too when spinning it. Lmk if you got it i can make a vid for ya its easier shown than explained :)

      Not really sure the easy way. This is the method I used I cut out a bit if my struggle but not a lot. The higher the better and take the shock loose on both sides. Good luck!

      I apparently messed up taking mine out. I DID in fact take that rear gear box off. Unfortunately the shaft came with it. Now the shaft won't go back in enough for the box to get bolted back on. I've been searching all over and haven't found anything. Any ideas? Can't really take it anywhere without a tire to move it... I'm stuck.

    • @davidfitzgerald6795

      Man that blows.... I ended up just letting the air out of the tire and working it back and forth till I got it out. I suggest that you take it to a honda dealer. Maybe find someone to haul it for you or rent a uhaul. Good luck man.
