Seemed like you both had a nice Valentine's day. Ice fishing and enjoying each others company. Great video. I my self enjoyed another Birthday. So February is a special month.😊
My wife and I love cooking in our Dutch Oven! We’ve had fresh (warm) peach pie near Leavenworth Washington and Prime Rib along Hells Canyon Snake River.😊
I am extremely grateful for the idea of having a storage box as a table on camping trips. This is a brilliant solution to keep our camping gear organized and accessible while having a sturdy and reliable surface to enjoy meals or play games. Thank you for this wonderful idea!
What a beautiful video. I love the beauty that surrounds you. We had to laugh when you had the wood stove on the snow. All’s well that ends well!! I always look forward to your next download. Bless you and your family,❤👩🦽
Ah, REAL winter! How I miss being out in it but a major bust the past few years in MA. Grew up pond skating/hockey ,skiing, etc. Will be retiring further up north ( ME) to hopefully enjoy more of it :-) In the meantime, weekend warriors! Thank you for the work you do in sharing these videos! 💜 B
Carol your big smile receiving a rock for Valentine's gift was priceless. I hope you won't mind me sharing this story with you and Pete. It was a warm muggy day in late May 2019 on the south farm. Johnny and I were pushing hard to get the corn planted. Spring had been so cold and wet up till now. As I was stirring the talc in the seed boxes I saw Johnny bend down picked something up. He walked back by me and tossed me a rock he asked me do you want to get married tomorrow? As he kept walking to the tractor. It's supposed to rain you know. I juggled the warm rock as I spun around on my heels and said are you serious??? He turned to give me that rye smile of his to say a man doesn't fool around about such matters as this Pammie. I was so shocked, to say the least. We both were divorced for 20+ years and neither wanted to remarry. He had his house and I had mine it worked well for us. I finished my job doubled check the boxes to make sure everything was latched down as he greased the press-down wheels. Upon completion, he asked if I had anything cold in the cooler. I grabbed him a cold water bottle and a sandwich from the truck to head to the tractor. We stood for a moment in silence as my head was still whirling. He put his arm around my shoulder you know Pammie I am so Blessed in my old age to have you at my side. I told myself when you came to help with the fall harvest 15 years ago John you better treat her right she's an answer to many prayers. We pledged our love to each other asking for God's blessings in hopes of many more seasons working side by side. Well, it didn't rain the next day or the next several days. The following year in January we sat beside each other as the Dr. said those awful words we didn't want to believe. February 19th my Johnny went home to be with our great Lord and Savior. The perfect ring was a small red rock shaped nearly perfectly like a heart. I feel as if I still have a special piece of his heart. So when you put your rock in that perfect spot in the spring smile as you will always have an endearing Valentine's Day story to share about Pete's love for you. For some gals, this wouldn't settle well, but to me, I couldn't have been given a more precious gift from my farmer. May God Bless You Both and your family.
Watching you folks spending Valentines Day together brings back fond memories of my hubby of 56 Valentine Days together too. He passed away in Dec. of 2020 and I find this 3rd year without him very lonely. Treasure all the years you have together and you'll always have wonderful memories, like I do. Take care folks. Sandy from OHIO
just heads up . a pan big cake sheet works great under pop up tent stove.BUTT put a couple short wooden boards first on the snow the cake sheet pan. and pull the pan out to u a bit so it catches the ambers when ya open the lil stove to add wood. u got it
It was like Watching the Revenant Again Camping is a chore even loving it BUT in Those Conditions it Shows you HOW Strong The Trappers and Natives Were Years Gone By....
My mind was blown when I saw what you did at 2:59 .Using the jerry can seal being used to cover the spout. I had no clue! Thanks for providing great content. Really loving the cottage series.
Great video! When you assemble your stove, your chimney pipe should go INSIDE the stove adapter. The way you connected it, the creasote will run down the chimney and drip out of the joint onto the outside of the stove, instead of running down inside the stove. The creosote dripping onto the stove will smoke and stink and possibly become a fire hazard over time.
I have a similar tent and stove. They do work good. The tent has withstood strong, 40-50 MPH winds. A couple suggestions. Aim the opening of the stove to where you can easily restock it during the night. Keep the wood right by it. When you put the rings on the pipe, put a bunch on at the same time it makes it easier. The only down side is internal condensation. Even with ventilation and a roaring stove you end up with condensation. Thanks for bringing us along.
The hot tent mode of camping has interested me for awhile so it was good to see fellow newbies trying it out. Extra kudos for doing so on a frozen lake! Most of my camping to-date is during summer in Virginia so the "hot" (and humid) tent is a given. Have thoroughly enjoyed the weekly insights into wintering on a snowy iced-in island. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Your enthusiasm for learning new things and seeking out adventures is admirable and fun. Best wishes during the rest of this winter season!
When backpacking, we have found that putting a space blanket over top of our sleeping bags adds a tremendous amount of warmth through the night. We like the one that is a bit thicker as it doesn't "krinkle sound" very much - well worth the ounces on colder nights! 🤗🙏🇺🇲🇨🇦
j adore vos vidéos vue de la FRANCE c est fantastique et grandiose sa change de mon pays c est tout petit , la seul chose qui manque c est un sous titrage en français merçi 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You know what would be fun is one of them sail skiers , It's like a sail boat with skies on it , what do you think ? I loved this video , you guys are so equipt , this helps all people on how to camp like that , Thank you guys
Enjoyed watching this in my rooftop tent while winter camping here in the UP. Looks like a great adventure! Modern materials make recreating in cold, bug-free weather much easier. Now you have me giving serious thought to setting up for ice fishing next winter!
I have my fairly new Springbar hot tent set up in my yard, and I was out there last night with a fire going in the wood burning stove. Pretty awesome 🔥
Such a wonderful video to watch, you two love birds are the best! And Carol's cooking gets me hungry every time I watch your videos! Thanks again for an amazing view into off-grid living.
Even with a bottom plate, you might consider something like a piece of a welders blanket etc cuz anything that conducts heat will melt the ice. That's a nice lightweight camping set you're testing. Hope you have plenty of opportunities to use it
i've always appreciated the realism of the videos. Whether I thought that looks so enjoyable or that looks like a challenge i've always enjoyed them. Thank you!!! Oh...and the reflection in your mother's goggles of the blue sky was simply amazing.
Carol is a inspiration to all women!! She gets right into the action getting her hands dirty and helping her Husband Pete. A Traditional Woman is the best kind.....treasure!! Timmy C Arizona
Well that was a great Valentines get away! I’m just wondering why Pete had a hearty breakfast of sausages and eggs, but Carol only had toast? Pete, you need to be a better Valentine when it comes to Breakfast! Just kidding! It was nice to see you two have some “alone time”. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic video! Maybe cut 2 or 3 'planks' of wood for under the stove (or some halved logs)? I thought all these stoves had a cap on the top of the flue. You can't beat hot tenting on a cold night! May you have many more adventures in the teepee.
If you take some heavy aluminum foil, fold it several times for multiple layers to keep the stove insulated from the ground. Foil is super light weight and easy to pack. You can also use foil to seal the cooking pot to the stove top
Another beautiful video of epik family. You guys are amazing and nature lovers.Content of video is excellent, specially filming is par of excellence.Keep traveling, cooking, fishing and smiling.
Happy Monday morning from your kiwiNZ famz, always good to see both of you having some parental time together lol it’s what my son Kayden sez when he’s being funny😂. Thank you for sharing your beautiful vlog with us. Take care and be safe, loves from us all❤❤❤❤❤
Charming little production here. Did the mom and dad operate their own camera or did the daughter come along to document? Also, was the dog wearing booties in the snow?I like cooking with ghee and avocado oil. I use olive oil more on foods after cooking and in my savory salads. A great salad I use daily is: Power Greens Chard & Spinach, chopped red onion, chopped Kirkland branded Heart Healthy Nuts, balsamic vinegar & xtra virgin olive oil. After that, add whatever else you like. I use sardines and some aged parmesan cheese.
Love your videos. Like the new tent. But come on guys If you’re practicing winter survival ….survival at all. Have to get rid of those other amenities ..Lol no electric saw. Just giving you guys a hard time enjoy. 👍🏼
Love that you did some time alone. We see the boys have so much fun but I as a woman watcher want to see equal opportunity fun. Santa and Misses C zipping across the lake.. what a nice tent and stove. Smart. I would love to put the chimney to gather… the chimney is cleaver and simple. When you get home will you let the tent dry outside on a line?
I know you mentioned no motos on the island but how about the next winter ya spend there ya get a snow bike conversion for your machines! I see groomed trails on the island in your future please ✊😀❄️

Happy Valentine’s Day. I am curious. Why would you have to blow your sleeping pads up manually? An air sack might make life a lot easier and it certainly doesn’t take up any space when traveling.
I love the idea of hot-tenting. However, I'm a bit sceptical about the portable stove you have there. I would recommend taking a CO and CO2 monitor and alarm along with you. It's possible that stove is venting properly, but it's very thin, plus it and the chimney are not fully sealed. Also, it might be sealed to a good degree now, as it is new, and all the pieces are flush, but over time, the heat may warp the stove or the chimney. That's my 10 cents worth. Or should say, 10 pence. I love your videos and can't wait for the next one😎 I bid your family a hearty hello from England and to say I've been a fan ever since you hooked up with Chad from LTVL. Have a great rest of your winter, and stay safe🤗
The ice sings loudest at night. Been winter camping but in a canvas tent that little teepee looks neat. Be safe.
You two have such a wonderful relationship! You did catch something! That Beautiful Lady as your wife.
Thank you very much!
Those little stoves are great. No legs on the Dutch oven is the ticket
Valentine's Getting Lucky in the Snow!!!!
Respect for each other “ is so evident” with y’all !!!
Awesome! And a belated Happy Valentines! 👍🥰🇨🇦❄🐾📷🔥
The love between you both is endearing and you have raised children who are a testament to you.
Thank you 🙏🏻
How romantic, practicing survival skills on Valentine's Day😊💞
I am extremely grateful for the idea of having a storage box as a table on camping trips. This is a brilliant solution to keep our camping gear organized and accessible while having a sturdy and reliable surface to enjoy meals or play games. Thank you for this wonderful idea!

Hubby and I have winter camped in our much younger years. Fun times! Where did the dog sleep??
Yes, we forgot to mention that. Pete came out and took him back to the cabin.

Good morning! Thanks for watching!
Awesome valentine date❤❤
Glamping with the Van Stralens👍👍👍
Good morning thanks for the great time
Good morning! You’re welcome.
What a fun adventure. What happened to the dog?
Yes, we forgot to mention that. Pete came out and took him back to the cabin.
I wonder if putting a rock between the stove and dutch oven would have worked to transfer heat
Yes, I think that may have worked.
Agreed that might have done the trick.
Keep practicing those "survival skills". 😁
Yes it needed a good dry out. 👍🏻
What an adventure! Carol, that meal looked sooooooo good and restaurant quality! Did you send Lando home?
Thank you. Yes, we forgot to mention that Pete came out and took him back to the cabin.
Feliz dia dos namorados (Valentines'day) Aqui no Brasil comemoramos no dia 12 de junho......lindo cão e para onde ele foi ? Não o vi mais....😘🤥
Thank you. Pete Jr picked him up 🐾
Fun video. Specially, trying out new stuff you get to figure out what works and what doesn’t work you gotta love that. 😊😊😊 ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
I know you mentioned no motos on the island but how about the next winter ya spend there ya get a snow bike conversion for your machines! I see groomed trails on the island in your future please ✊😀❄️
That would be cool!
32:40 a nice insulating sheet of asbestos would do well against ice melting under the stove. 😉
I see a nice shiny red snowmobile in front of the cabin did you finally make the purchase?
Not yet, our cousin left his for us to use while we look for a snowmobile to purchase. 👍🏻
Sooo epik awesome beautiful video 👍❤❤❤🤘
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it
What is the thing that is being operatored. It looks like 1/2 a snowmobile. I am intrigued! I have never seen anything like it before.
It’s a Snowdog 👍🏻

Tks for the laugh you should stick to overlanding… wife says your jam looks yummy
Wow wish any wife would be happy with a rock for Valentines day!!!!💞😂
I’m an extreme novice at any kind of camping, never been to Canada 🇨🇦 it’s definitely on my bucket list of places to visit, less than a year to go before retirement, doing my homework watching your videos, one question, when your out camping, any issues with any kind of critters looking for left overs??
Hope you get a chance to explore Canada. We haven’t had a problem, but we always try to clean up pretty good after meals.
surprised you didn't tarp the floor of the tent
😋
You can store eggs for up to 2 years in fireplace ash :)
Nice. Thanks for the tip
How does Lando's Paws do with all that running on the ice(jagged, smooth, sharp)? Figured with all that road and trail running that he has Paws of steel.
Here has booties, but prefers to go without most of the time. He loves running on snow.
You're grinding coffee and it just occurred to me...where's your pup? Didn't see him all evening. Maybe when he gets his breakfast.
Where'd your dog go? I must've missed something 🤷♀️.
Yes, we forgot to mention that. Pete came out and took him back to the cabin.
I don’t understand being inside with all of that snow you could have just stayed outside. Anyway how can you get comfortable if there is no way to really relax without getting wet. Tarp on the ground maybe a thick rug or something. But anyway to each it’s on. My question is, is that by choice or a preference or are you just working with what you have?
The water was only in the centre of the tent. Where our sleeping mats were set up, stayed dry.
HI PETE & CAROL 👋
AWESOME WAY TO SPEND VALENTINES DAY & NIGHT 🌙

@@EFRT that makes sense, thank you! 😁
Where did Lando go? He ran all the way to where you set up camp and we saw him pop into camp but after that never saw him again???
We forgot to film that part, but Pete met us and took a Lando home. 👍🏻
Very beautiful 🏕❄
I love the idea of hot-tenting. However, I'm a bit sceptical about the portable stove you have there. I would recommend taking a CO and CO2 monitor and alarm along with you. It's possible that stove is venting properly, but it's very thin, plus it and the chimney are not fully sealed. Also, it might be sealed to a good degree now, as it is new, and all the pieces are flush, but over time, the heat may warp the stove or the chimney.

You two, plus camera crew...
Probably one of the family members. I know the daughter does alot of the filming. 😎👍
Pete Jr dropped by to shoot a few of the scenes.
