Carol, pretty obvious that this empty nester deal will be tough on you for a long time. That and this being stranded on the makes it even more pronounced. It's been hard for us as empty nesters with all 7 gone now. It was great going on walk in the woods with you and Lando and listen to you. Happy New Year to you all !
Thank you. I know, it’s definitely a whole new chapter in life, and not without it’s challenges. 🙏🏻 It’s nice to have you along with us as we navigate this journey.
I use a transfer pump/ submersible pump with a garden hose for pumping water to the house into a barrel ..it would work in the winter but you would have to drain it and bring it inside each time.
Used a heated line from the cabin to just below the ice line in the lake and a pump triggered by pressure for the plumbing inside. Drained the lines when not occupied. I’m not sure whether your solar system could support this or if you could bury the line under the frost line between the cabin and the lake to minimize the amount requiring heating….
I won't lie, I am envious of your time on the island in the winter. I would love to spend my summer and fall prepping for winter and be where it gets as cold as it does there for you with a cozy cabin to call home. Love your channel!!
You and Pete should be proud of yourselves for teaching your children the art of survival! Kids today are so focused on instant gratification and have NO clue of the virtue of patience. Besides, absence makes the heart grow fonder, right?!You both have also instilled the best gift of self-reliance in each of your children. That has been very obvious from Dan and Pete Jr's vlogs. I'm just SUPER excited that y'all are finally getting a fan boat! YAY! Your fan base has been praying for you all to get this soon and the good Lord delivered! The times of hardship in life just make us more appreciative of what we have been blessed with already. It's been a very tough year for many, but I know and feel that 2025 is going to be an epic year for the EFRT!!
Thank you for your kind and thoughtful words. We are so grateful and excited for the fan boat. It will help things be safer and easier to get in and out. We too feel 2025 will be a wonderful year. Each day is such a gift. We are so blessed to have friends like you with us.
Poor Lando crying...awww You guys have Island Fever! It is interesting how bad you want something when you can't have it instantly. Quite the process to off grid living on the island. I bet every winter will be different with new challenges to overcome. Thanks for sharing your lives with us! 🥰
Carol, your boys (Pete Sr. included) are always giving me a heart attack. Some videos they are breaking through the ice on a little boat and the next they are riding around on thin ice. 😅
Really enjoyed the beautiful winter shots of fern looking ice. Nature is amazing!.. Love your honesty regarding how fortunate your family is to live this life, but yes as Mom's we are always thinking of certain foods etc. That our kids may want.Or hey, dinner out!... Thanks for perking up my morning.
I love this video. Love your honesty about the situation on the island. I miss my boys too. Different situations but I know how you feel. Family is everything. That’s all we really have. Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
It’s amazing what they did. So neat you know your family history. Something to cherish and reflect on when times get challenging. Thank you for sharing.
Heres a crazy bubbly water hack.. if you dare.. water plus acv + baking soda + syrup for sweetener. I knew a 80 yr old lady who drank this daily for health benefits and she said it had become her beverage of choice. 😊. Love waking to your sunday morning videos.. God Bless you all.
Great video it was very interesting and and kinda scary I just imagine myself in that situation Carol you are amazing strong woman and you will survive in any situation just love the girl talk 😊Until your next video stay strong stay warm and may God watch over you and your boys including Pete ! Looking forward to seeing your next video ❤️🙏✌🏼
Not us watching this from Florida right now wanting to ship you some avocados, Carol! 😂 Your winter wonderland is so beautiful. Our kids are in their teens, and I'm trying not to think about them leaving the nest. I know it's coming sooner than I'd like. Hugs to you, momma. 💜 - Misti
FL and 🥑🥰 Misti, you guys are an incredible family. I know you both are enjoying this time with your teens too. It’s exciting and challenging for sure. More for me. lol Pete Sr is just excited. We pray we have equipped them with the right tools to head out in life and make their own paths on their journey through life. The fun part will be hearing all about it through their experiences. Big hug to you*😌
@@EFRT Joe and I are looking forward to being empty nesters in a way. There are so many more places in this world we want to explore together as a couple! This time with the kids during their teens feels like the most pivotal. We are working diligently to ensure they are prepared for adulthood and their own adventures. xoxo
Your cabin videos are bringing back memories for my hubby. At the time, he was with his first wife, had three small children and for the winter months lived on top of Rusty Mountain in the northern part of Yukon. He took the job of looking after a mine while it was shut down, keeping the airstrip clear and doing maintenance. He speaks about being flow to the living quarters and after making trips to bring their basic food supplies, such as flour, sugar, rice etc. they watched as the plain took off leaving them alone. Their water supply was either a nearby stream of a lake 20 miles away. He hunted right away to get the needed meat, luckily getting a moose and then doing the work of getting it ready to freeze. Except for an emergency flight by bush pain, for a dental issue, which gave them the opportunity for a little shopping, they made so with the food they brought with them. They all enjoyed the experience but were happy to be picked up in spring.. He gets a giggle at the many trips you make for shopping but knows how difficult it is to adapt to a situation like that.
Wow! I just loved reading your note of your husband’s story. We are definitely not at that level of remoteness or self reliance. Amazing and inspiring to read and reflect on. Thank you.
I call it zigging and zagging to life. MY choice how I handle it. And recognizing that sad can exist in the midst of good, fun and different. You downplay the challenge you've set for yourselves but what a good example it is for folks who might not think to challenge themselves to see you do it, manage the unexpected, and come out happy on the other side. Good on you!
Carol, thank you for the "girl chat". In addition to giving all of us viewers who drool over your type of off grid life a "reality check", I suspect it was therapeutic for you to just "talk". Love your vids, your topics and your realness!!
Another great video guys have a fantastic 2025 you know as smart as those boys are they could’ve almost made their own fan boat 😆 with a seat in the front just for Lando 😊 you guys stay warm ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out
Great video! I could hear your disappointment regarding not having the boys with you for the new year. I'm glad they had what they needed for safety. I still haven't burned our tree. I loved our tree this year, but a Christmas tree in May wouldn't shine in the spring time sun, so i will finish getting the lights off and move on! Transitioning away from children always with you is a hard transition, but trust me, true pain happens if they want to move on but haven't. Holidays without your family close is difficult for sure. I've been known to make a different plan and work the plan, and it worked out fine. The celebration with the kids is always fun, whenever it's happens!
It is definitely a new chapter in our lives. Thank you for sharing a little insight of your life. It is hard to set down the Christmas tree, it’s always so beautiful full of memories. Have a wonderful day.
So neat watching the ice waves after the fan boat took off! Do you worry about Lando falling in the ice when it’s thin? New-ish to your channel, and loving the content. I found you because it’s a dream of mine to explore northeastern Canada, and I loved those videos!
Welcome, and thank you for joining us on this journey. It was really neat to see the ice waves. Lando won’t go on the ice till we tell him and even then he will watch and go on the ice when he is ready. Such a good pup 🐶 Canada is so beautiful!
Hi folks I love your videos your very kind folks I bin watching for 6 months I am a triple Amputee lost both legs and left hand and Deaf but with a lot of prosthetic equipment I can still volunteer welder and HD mechanic just helping folks I am 68 yrs old hope you had a great Christmas and new years
Is so interesting the way your son 's holding his stick on Ice is so smart. if he was to fall through the ice with his own body weight it makes like a circle but his stick would catch it. When he holds it across. He would give him something to grab on to. It's scary. That ice cracked like you let us hear You'd help him out, but it's the little things people need to learn living this way. That is definitely one of them. Pretty cool my Christmas. wishing you and your family blessed New Year. Enjoy your tubes good learning.thank you
You all do such a great job in managing the very unique challenges of living at your cabin this time of year. I never thought that it’s not best to run a chainsaw while being stuck on the island. Very Smart. So beautiful guys. My family really loves your cabin series videos.
We appreciate your kind words. The cabin life can be challenging at times, but we love it! Better to be safe in times like this. Until freeze up jobs like that can wait. See you next week. Have a wonderful day.
Carol, you guys are rocking cabin life! So interesting. We are experiencing the artic blast in GA too, maybe a little snow this week. Excited to see the fan boat...game changer. Bring on the avocados and Bubbly. 😉 Happy New Year to everyone!
Those snow crystals are beautiful. Carolyn really enjoyed hearing you. I feel so bad for Pete, his nasal sounds really bad. Maybe you should take over narrating.
They are so beautiful. Once we can get off safely, Pete Sr will get it all fixed up. Poor guy. Almost to freeze up and to the doctors. Thanks for your patience. See you next week.
Suggestion regarding lake water retrieval. Insert a 12+" diameter 4-6' long pipe through the ice which has been filled with foam insulation and has a 1-1 1/2" diameter water pipe in the middle of the larger pipe about 8-10' long. Make it long enough to get into clear water under the ice and stand up in the larger insulated pipe above the ice. Hook up either a hand or electric water pump to the small pipe above the ice. I'd have the large pipe stand 3-4' above the ice surface so hand pumping water would be easy. They sell freeze proof pumps so that shouldn't be a concern.
Every Special Video Burning the Tree is a nice ending to the Year😊 We Miss Dan and Pete Too But I bet it was a Huge Bonding time for them 🙏 Poor Landos cry😢 Pete is brave riding around on that machine bet it was fun😅 Girl talk always good for the Soul it reminds us that we are all human 🙏😊
First ice on a large body of water can freeze up very uneven due to winds and other conditions. It could be 3-4 inches in one spot and a inch or less in others. If you're going to walk out on the ice to check for thickness please use proper equipment, like a spuds bar not a stick, and learn how to use it the right way. Also always have a pair of ice picks and wear them around your neck for fast and easy access. I've been ice fishing for almost 60 years in Northern Wisconsin, number one rule to stay on top of the ice is never take chances. Stay safe.
Looking forward to the kids coming home and being able to upload their content. Looks like the lake is going to freeze over shortly. Good luck with fan boat adventure. That’s going to be a huge benefit. Looking forward to your permanent hot water supply solution. Be well and stay safe. Puck.
Love “girl talk” and hearing about your experiences and observations Carol! As I was watching, I couldn’t help but think about how much I am looking forward to observing lake ice freeze when we retire to ME in ‘26 hopefully 🙌🏻 I know the fan boat is coming but how about a soda stream to make your own bubbly water? I can’t enough of it either 😉 Hope reunion with your boys was grand ❤️ In the meantime, may some fresh lettuce and avocado come your way 🥑🥬🥗
That’s is going to beautiful in ME. Wishing you both all the best with your adventure. I ran out of the soda stream bottles 😅😩about two weeks ago. I thought six would have cut it will freeze up. We had something happen and we were unable to reunite fully. 😢 we will share the whole story when we are all together soon. 🙏🏻 Thank you for taking a walk with me and listening.
Awe, thanks! We are confident the right property will find us 🙏🏻😉 My soda stream is in the basement as I am getting lazy and kinda love Pelligrino water 😬 So spoiled here in the woods where Amazon trucks and grocery store are readily available! Enjoy your Sunday and hope all of you are well and safe!💜
Suddenly I feel kinda guilty about the salad I'm enjoying while I open my latest Amazon package. Thank you for reminding me to stay humble. Stay warm and please be careful around that ice!
Flexable good word Carol loll Thats it. Loved how Lando cried when you asked him if he missed the boys ...How real that Lando is so emotional ... Love ya all ..Happy New Year from Orillia ont. Stuck indoors with 5 ft snowbbanks preety much feel the same way, so I went and had 2 avocadoes One for you. lolll
My wife and i have watched your vodeos since your children were young. What a great example of a family. Its really touching how much you and your husband love your children as it should be, well done. Its also very touching to see the twinkle in your eye when your children are coming to see you both, thats more special than anything. I didnt have that closeness in my family but i can shed a tear and i have watching your family, it has touched my heart. Well done mom dad sons and daughter. Well done. A model family. Tony, tracy and dustydog
Enjoyed this long talk with you Carol! An option, but would need electricity, is a sodastream to make your own bubbly water! You are right, we are so spoiled living at this time, having everything at our fingertips! Blessings for your family in 2025 - can’t wait to hear your plans!
I ran out of the canisters to make it. Next time I know now to have more on hand. Thank you so much for coming along with me has I learn. Have a wonderful week.
Blaze king wood stove. Princess model you will never have to worry about the stove going out at night again. Keeps our 1800 Sq. Ft. Home warm even in minus Temps. With a full load of wood 20 hrs burn time on low fire.
Wow! That’s incredible! We will look into that stove more. Thank you for the information. We definitely need a new one. This one is having a hard time keeping up with the colder temperatures.
We have done that in the past. It works great. Just right now we do it this way till the ice is thinker. Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday. See you next week.
Carol, you are so amazing! I new to your channel and Dan's too and loving it! you're organized, efficient, creative and so flexible! You and your husband have such a wonderful life! I'm sure it comes with a lot of hard work. I'm retired now and sometimes wish I had a do over, boy would I do things differently. I hold my breath seeing Pete go out onto the ice! I wondered, do you have a washer and dryer?
Thank you so much for coming along with us as we learn and explore. Dan, can’t wait to get back to the island so he can put out his video for you. We have a washer machine that works three seasons. I hand dry our laundry. We are looking at a new system for this year hopefully. In the winter months I pack it all out and do it in a town. Hope you have a wonderful week.
😅 good for you living off grid on an island too. Not easy. We noticed you always talk about Pete Jr., and he is in your videos regularly but you rarely mention Dan or show video of him. Why? Dan has a great channel too.
I think it goes in waves. One son maybe around us more at different times. Sometimes Pete jr is away for a few months and we are with Dan more and other times Dan is busy and Pete jr is with us more. It just happens naturally. We love being with both of them and we are so proud of them. Dan can’t wait to make it back to the island and put out his adventure as soon as possible.
I have never heard the wind pushing the ice and I pass 19 year living in front of the Richelieu river in Québec, Canada we where playing hockey or skating , and my father was there whith is fishing pole we where happy and enjoy that life all together ! Maybe because we where young and made lots of sound we never stop to hear what was that sound ! But I love the sound it made me feel good! Thank you😊❤
That's a beautiful memory of your childhood, young adult life. Thank you for sharing. Even for us we have been coming here for years and never heard it till now.
Greetings from Prince Edward Island. I live in a cedar log home on the North shore, looks much like yours. I heat with wood, Regency mid-size. I have a heat pump but don't use it in winter. And yes, I wake up with the inside being +10c sometimes, but I'm 61 and stubborn. I noticed your propane tanks look older; do you certify them every ten years? I ask since I have propane on demand hot water, and I find it's not worth the recertification. I've switched to 30 pounders on a stand. I only go through 30 pounds a year. I heat my dishwater on the stove for six months of the year and since it's me it's only for showers.
Thanks for the tips! It's amazing to hear that there are others who enjoy the rustic living. Our propane just recently got certified and cleared. That’s a great point you mentioned. Smart move going to 30 pound tanks.
FYI, it is against Ont Fishing regs to be more than 60meters from your lines and must be within sight of two lines only per person. Edit: approx. 17:43 mark
💯 We always have ours in sight. We should have clarified more on it. But I was just talking more in general on what we use and getting the gear ready. 👍🏻
The way my life has been going, I can’t think of anything better right now than being stranded in a cabin during winter. Be safe yall
You guys were born to do what you’re doing. From traveling Gods beautiful creation, to documenting it on YT , and influencing so many.

I use a transfer pump/ submersible pump with a garden hose for pumping water to the house into a barrel ..it would work in the winter but you would have to drain it and bring it inside each time.
That’s a possibility. We will look into to that. Thank you.
I think they live on a rock. Hard to dig below the frost line.

So thankful for Pete Sr ☺️
One can only imagine the first settlers to this land, no just going back! We are truly blessed! In my family ancestry they came over on the “Anne”
It’s amazing what they did. So neat you know your family history. Something to cherish and reflect on when times get challenging. Thank you for sharing.

A game changer with the fan boat. Pete, you have had that cold for quite a while now. I hope that it clears up soon
Looking forward to the fan boat and getting to the doctor to get this cleared up. It’s been too long with a plugged nose.
Love your videos.

I'd have the large pipe stand 3-4' above the ice surface so hand pumping water would be easy. They sell freeze proof pumps so that shouldn't be a concern.
Be careful if there is fog…it might be a chemical fog…people are getting sick, sore throats and it is not a cold….end times…stay safe 💕😊🙏🏻
❤We are stranded in an ice storm in KC area. Enjoy your videos!❤
Stay warm and safe
So beautiful!! A little unnerving hearing all the cracking😅!!❤
The boys have done a few video calls and are doing great. They are so flexible 😅 I’m learning to be.
Lando can’t wait to see them as we.
❤️
I enjoy your videos guys thanks and keep going
Thank you. Happy to have you along with us.
Definitely getting cold up there! Thanks for sharing as always.
looks like you got snow!! stay warm
Stay safe.
Thank you for your great advice and knowledge. You are 💯 correct.
Looking forward to the kids coming home and being able to upload their content. Looks like the lake is going to freeze over shortly. Good luck with fan boat adventure. That’s going to be a huge benefit. Looking forward to your permanent hot water supply solution. Be well and stay safe. Puck.
Thank you as always. We can’t wait to see the boys and everyone back safely. The water system is going to be a game changer for sure.
Beautiful !❤
Be safe and careful😊
Happy New Year from Charleston,SC ! Loof forward to your next video.
Happy New Year!
Thank you for taking a walk with me and listening.
Frozen avacodos are great for things like guacamole. It at least helps the craving. Enjoy following your adventures.
That is a great tip for those avocado cravings! 🙏🏻 Thank you! I’ll do that next time.
Very nice 👍🏻 to hear you it was a wonderful video ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much 🙏🏻
You are amazing! Enjoyed girl talk. ❤
Thank you for taking this walk with me☺️❤️
Happy New YEAR to you and family

Girl talk🥂🤍
At times it will wake you up it’s so loud. Amazing sounds to hear.
Thanks for listening ☺️❤️
It is what it is !
Suddenly I feel kinda guilty about the salad I'm enjoying while I open my latest Amazon package. Thank you for reminding me to stay humble. Stay warm and please be careful around that ice!
You always make us laugh. A sign of a great friend. Thank you. Enjoy that salad and package 📦 Look forward to catching up on your videos. Take care.

Enjoy everyday.
Glad to hear ☺️🙏🏻
My wife and i have watched your vodeos since your children were young. What a great example of a family. Its really touching how much you and your husband love your children as it should be, well done. Its also very touching to see the twinkle in your eye when your children are coming to see you both, thats more special than anything. I didnt have that closeness in my family but i can shed a tear and i have watching your family, it has touched my heart. Well done mom dad sons and daughter. Well done. A model family.
Tony, tracy and dustydog
Thank you so much for your kind words, Tony, Tracy & 🐾They mean a lot to us. 😊
You just traveled across Canada alone. Enjoy it.
Thank you!
Looks like Lando is just sitting out there watching for the boys to get home lol❤❤
He does that often, just sit there and wait. Such a good boy. 🐾🐶
Ps; I've seen others place pine branches on their waterhole. Insulating the hole, sometimes not even freezing up, under the pines. 😊🤪💗💗🐾🐾
We have done that in the past. It works great. Just right now we do it this way till the ice is thinker. Hope you’re having a wonderful Sunday. See you next week.
❤❤❤Keep the girl talk going Carol❤❤❤cant wait for next vid❤
❤️❤️☺️
Happy New Year! Love your videos… you are blessed!
Happy New Year to you! We are thankful to be on this journey.
This lake is perfect for ice fishing. ❤
It really is! 🎣
You guys should have your own air boat. You have the need
Definitely 💯
It’s good that you are getting that Fan boat, no longer waiting for freeze up.
Yes, we are so excited about it! Definitely going to be a game changer.
That was a huge fish under the ice by the water hole. (36:58 minutes)
The one that got away. 🎣
Something else to try on the lake is an old snow plane I have one that use
Wow! How cool. Now that would be a great way to get in and out for sure.
I in joy all your videos
Thank you. We are so happy you are enjoying them.
Lando really misses the rest of his pack😢
He sure does 🐾🐶🥹
DRAMA!!! LOVE IT!
You should use paper plates to eat on. Save water and propane, then use them to burn. Get the cheap paper plates that don't have the coating on them .
That would definitely help.
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too! 🙏🏻
Happy 2025 !
Thank you and to you 😊
Keep some really cheap hot dogs on the island with you. They make great tip up bait for northerns!
Great tip, we'll definitely try that! 🎣
Hope you get better soon! Sounds like I’ll get a cold just listening to you. J/K.
Thanks for the well wishes. Hope this goes away soon 😅🥴
Happy New Year wish u all the best in 2025
Thank you so much. And to you. Happy New Year.
We're here for the "girl talk" always! 😘

Lando looking for the boys 😟.
