Hi guys! So lots of hotel comments. I know that it’s my fault the reservation was canceled 😂. I literally said it in the video you dont need to tell me twice.Obviously, yes. I do just find the idea of canceling someone’s reservation (that I already paid for in full) sort of unethical, like they would’ve made the same amount if I was there, because I already paid for the whole stay, But whatever! Doesn’t matter, we got it all figured out 🤗. The Hotwire people were super nice!
I think this is standard hotel policy though. If the party doesn't show up on the first day and there's no communication with the hotel about a change in check-in date, it's a no-show. They don't think/plan for you to show up on the second day because most people don't.
you should call them the night that you were in Palm Springs and tell them that you will be 1 day later. I am working in hotel and can tell you that hotel in 99% would not have a problem with missing 1st night in this amazing hotel. 1 phone call and you could avoid problems ...
Yep, live and learn, which she is doing and showing all of us what that looks like. She does a great job showing what it's like to figure this stuff out on her own.
you not showing up on the day you booked the hotel room & not notifying your hotel of that is called "no-show". most hotels have this policy where they charge you for the first night since you basically didn't show up and didn't call ahead to notify them and eventually prevented them from giving the room to someone else. the rest of the stay is cancelled by default. you are actually lucky hotwire managed to reinstate your reservation.
yeah, all hotels do this...whether you book on hotwire or direct with the hotel. same with flights, if you don't show up for the first leg of your flight, the rest of your itinerary is canceled. things you learn...you live and learn.
This. It’s insane to me that she thinks that no showing the first night would mean that you get to keep the reservation. Hot wire deal or not, it could have been such an easy thing to just call.
I mean, it kinda makes sense that they would cancel the reservation if you didn't show up when planned. I guess the best thing would have been to let them know you'd come a day later... I guess it doesn't matter for them wether you sleep in the room or not if you've paid for it but they might have thought you wouldn't show up at all since, in my opinion it's quite uncommon for people to book a room and then show up a day later ! It might be an American thing though...
I think that kind of no-show policy is quite common in most countries. It's always good to call the place your staying at and let them know that you arrive later than planned. But now you know! Once I booked a hotel for the wrong dates and didn't notice it until afterwards but luckily they didn't charge anything for that - but now I always double check 😂
Honestly, I thought it was well known you can't just not show up. A hotel shouldn't have to say that; it's not unethical, just well known? You wouldn't schedule a hair appointment and show up a day later. It definitely would have been better to call ahead and ask them to modify your reservation. And you should get charged if you don't properly cancel your reservation, the hotel is losing money if people just decide to not show up. But, lesson learned. We all make these mistakes.
I see what your saying, but it’s also a bit different because I had already fully paid for the reservation, where as if you don’t show up for your hair appt you just didn’t pay altogether. It’s more of a similar concept to when flights overbook, which totally makes sense. It was just dumb they were making it difficult when the hotel was pretty empty anyway. But yes, lesson learned!
@@othermonica this happened with me as well with a much less nice hostel in Copenaghen. I can understand how you felt, because I felt the same, it was really confusing.. guess it's really policy then🤷🏻♀️
True. This applies to most non refundable rates. Anyhow a fair settlement with the hotel management isn’t uncommon especially if they see potential business with the client in the future.
@@philipdrew10 how is it theft. She literally signed a contract with them by paying for the hotel and then did not keep her end of the bargain by showing up on time. I’d assume if you actually took action the hotel has to give some sort of partial refund therefore the hotel is losing out on potential earnings if they had rented the room out to someone else. It’s like how airlines even if you have a multi leg ticket won’t let you just hop on part way into the journey if you miss your first flight 💁🏾♀️
I would have called and told them I still want the room I’m just not going to make it tonight instead of not showing up but they should at least give you back your 4 other nights
For real. I think if you just "ghost" them, though, they try to put the hotel room back on the market the recoup potential losses from having someone stay on-site. It's like if you make a plane reservation, but you're running late, so you show up after check-in, and they've already given your seat away. These companies just want to make as much money as possible.
Girl I’m like you I always learn EVERYTHING the hard way. I feel like that’s the definition of millennial life crisis just like trying to figure shit out in this crazy world as best we can. Glad you were able to get your reservation back ❤️
I find it so odd that everyone is commenting about the hotel thing when you literally said it was on you lollll. every body makes mistakes, everybody has those days
I prefer morning flights both leaving and going! I've experienced both when leaving and one time when we were leaving early our flight got delayed. It was nice because we had the whole day so we still got home at a decent time.
Btw, that policy of canceling the hotel reservation if u no show is standard in the industry. Not just a Hotwire thing. I learned this the hard way too back in my 20’s traveling for work. Easy fix is just call the hotel and let them know ur delayed by a day and they will typically hold the res especially if it’s prepaid. Agree it’s odd that hotels don’t hold your room even if you prepaid but it’s a thing in the industry.
Great video. You will have a great time in Austin,Tx. Make sure that you go downtown and visit Rainey street. It’s restaurants and bars in old houses. It’s lovely. Things are open on Rainey street now. You will have a great time. Have a great day.
Hotels are generally so responsive to changes in your travel plans (just imagine how many people have to move their stays around!), but you have to let them know! Someone may have come in the night prior wanting a room and they turned away that business because you didn’t call them. Next time, just give them a ring the minute you know you may not be arriving. Also- if you’re ever flying in super late or super early, give them a heads up! If you show up at 2am, they may have a time that says you’re a no-show! They can note all of this on your reservation.
It's usually a similar policy with connecting flights! If you have a connection but don't check in to the first flight and show up at the second airport, your seat is usually given up!
I always loved the mid century modern Eichler house my parents bought in Palo Alto, CA , sadly we only lived there for 3 years, then moving to Palos Verdes, CA as my dad moved up in the aerespace industry, when he eventually became the Chief Scientist at Edwards AFB.

when you are doing quizzes from books, do it in a way that you write your choices on a separate paper, like: 1-5: c|d|a,b|50|c next row 6-10 and so on. At the end of all the quizzes, check how much you got. Circle the ones you got wrong, get back to the questions and circle the questions you got wrong, try to solve them again in a same way. After you are done with the whole book before your licence exam, revise with the questions, but mainly focus the ones that are circled. You may know now something because you read it an hour ago, but in 3 weeks you might not remember it. the already solved quizzes won't really help you revising. Going through all the questions will take a lot of time - you should do it, but better use more of that revising time on the questions that were problematic in the begining than reading loads of questions you know anyways

I’m so confused about what your house in Palm Springs actually looks like!? Someday I will know I suppose. I really wish Shelby the best and know she will get well soon!!🍕😊
Did you pay for that first night not intending to go at all (and if so, why lol) or did you stay in Palm Springs unexpectedly long? Either way if you called and told them it prob could have worked out ok. Glad you were able to stay there anyway though! Also I have been binging you and your sister's videos lately, love them!
I don’t understand the appeal of Palm Springs. It’s soooo brown. Sand and rocks as landscaping? No thank you. Especially in comparison to Seattle, we have so much gorgeous green here. But to each their own :)
I think you have to go and just experience it for yourself to form a fair opinion of how you feel about it! The mountains in palm springs are so beautiful, the weather is awesome, the architecture is so unique, and the lifestyle is easy. Those are the some of the reasons I like it. The desert can actually be a really beautiful place! I'd recommend going sometime, it may surprise you! Or maybe not, but hopefully you'd still enjoy experiencing something different :)
I was actually born and raised in Modesto, CA. So I’m pretty accustomed to the dry very brown look of the area. Modesto is just ugly. However, having not been to Palm Springs specifically I can definitely agree that I don’t know for sure. And being somewhere, feeling the vibe and whatnot, can make a huge difference. I’d love to visit sometime, I’m always up for an adventure experiencing new things. And boy could I use some sunshine!!
Can someone please tell me why everyone is obsessed with oat milk? It tastes like cardboard. Especially in coffee. Coconut milk is the only non dairy milk that doesn’t taste like cardboard in coffee...
So you guys didnt buy the palm spring house for you to live in with your sister, it's to rent. And shelby moved in the another place now. And you sold your Washington place
It's kinda funny that you showed using this Oat Milk bcuz just this past week I've been researching non-dairy milks. I thought I had decided on Oat Milk (in general) as my go-to for my coffee. But then I found this guy online - he does really in depth reviews of "healthy" products. He next had this whole rant about how Oat Milk WOULD BE fantastic IF there was one that could prove they had no pesticides while growing the Oats. Does the word Glyphosate mean anything to anybody... ...sigh... I am still so very disappointed!! I really hate how our country uses pesticides, etc. on our food, yet doesn't disclose this info to the public! Now I'm feeling like the bearer of bad news. But I'm torn. It also feels like we all need to inform each other. This message is written with good intentions, intentions of love, and caring for all fellow humans. The guy I watched says don't buy anything like this without the stamp of organic. Which I generally try to do, I mean, it just makes sense. But - That was his best message. He didn't exactly recommend any certain product - "at this time" he said. Bummer. Personally, I remain undecided...

I don’t understand the appeal of Palm Springs. It’s soooo brown. Sand and rocks as landscaping? No thank you. Especially in comparison to Seattle, we have so much gorgeous green here. But to each their own :)
I like both 🤷♀️
I think you have to go and just experience it for yourself to form a fair opinion of how you feel about it!
Why couldn't you not stay at your sister's house instead of renting a hotel room ?
Are you coming to Austin to see ICON?
Can someone please tell me why everyone is obsessed with oat milk? It tastes like cardboard. Especially in coffee. Coconut milk is the only non dairy milk that doesn’t taste like cardboard in coffee...
So you guys didnt buy the palm spring house for you to live in with your sister, it's to rent. And shelby moved in the another place now. And you sold your Washington place
We are buying the Palm Springs house. Shelby moved to a rental in LA. We plan to own our Seattle house. Sorry if its confusing!
Oat milk is THE BEST!!!
It's kinda funny that you showed using this Oat Milk bcuz just this past week I've been researching non-dairy milks. I thought I had decided on Oat Milk (in general) as my go-to for my coffee.
But then I found this guy online - he does really in depth reviews of "healthy" products.
He next had this whole rant about how Oat Milk
WOULD BE
fantastic
IF
there was one that could prove they had no pesticides while growing the Oats.

The guy I watched says don't buy anything like this without the stamp of organic.
Which I generally try to do, I mean, it just makes sense.
But -
That was his best message.
He didn't exactly recommend any certain product -
"at this time" he said.
Bummer.
Personally, I remain undecided...
serve
I hope u will be giving us Christmas videos
I kinda like Seattle better lol
Sorry I’m not feeling that architecture. To me it just looks just like a box. The mountains are cool though.
Why didn't you just stay with your sister? That would have saved so much money. I'm obviously very confused lol
2 of her roommates are allergic to dogs and I had Oliver with me!
