The problem is, ball valves that remain open for a long periods of time become very hard to move far exceeding the torque than a device like this could exert. It would need to be exercised regularly and checked for reliability. Some of the more expensive more professionally oriented devices have their own valve so that they know exactly what torque’s they are dealing with
It’s a good point of why installed systems can be better but comparing the cost including installation I think something like this Aqara is still more realistic for a lot of people.
Put water appliances on smart plugs and have Aqara leak sensors on the floor beside them. So they automatically power off if a leak is ever detected. Combine this with the valve control to cut off the water supply as well as the power.
@@EricWelander most smart plugs I’ve seen (for the UK market at least) can handle 10/13 amps. So 2400-3120W, more than enough for a dishwasher or washing machine.
Yes! I’ve had to hold my tongue on this during the live streams to not share anything I needed to wait to share until the embargo lifted. I’m glad it’s finally here for you.
So if you get this, and all of the other AQARA stuff, the Chinese government can shut off your lights, unlock your door, know where you are inside your house, and shut off your water. Nice
Love your videos, but your sponsored ad being right at the beginning of this one was a little much. I was driving and was like, wait, why is he talking about a battery? Did I change the video accidentally?😂
Thanks for the feedback. I know they sponsored the video but I do think it is a really cool battery worth your attention. Most sponsors for channels my size require the sponsorship is near the start of the video.
It's not homekit compliant if uses Aqara's hub. Pass. - Edit: You can see the device is not compliant in the video itself. The HomeKit logo does not appear on the product's box and the pairing code itself is also missing the HomeKit branding. If you want to read more about HomeKit compliance in Apple's developer documentation.
@@carbongrip2108 It may work but it is not compliant. This is why in the video you do not see the HomeKit logo on the outside packaging nor on on the device's pairing barcode. At least the manufacturer is honest about it. If interested, you can read more about this in the Apple developer guidelines where Apple details these requirements.

Agree exactly. I will wait to see some reviews.

Very good point and that should’ve been part of the review. I wonder how long the battery would last if the valve gets exercised regularly.
Is it thread
So isn’t the simple solution just an overnight automation that turns it off and on everyday? Seems pretty obvious

That's an interesting idea. You would need a smart plug that can handle that kind of power load but it could be a cool automation.

Even better idea change out the wall switch with the iniveli smart switch for your washer and then do that automation instead of using a smart plug
Builder here. If you're worried about the valve not working or getting stuck. Then install two of them. One's gotta work right?
Hey Eric, as always a great video. This is a product that I actually been looking to get to add to my smart home.
Yes! I’ve had to hold my tongue on this during the live streams to not share anything I needed to wait to share until the embargo lifted. I’m glad it’s finally here for you.
@ no worries, Eric I understand. But thank you so much for the video. It’s going to be added to my Christmas smart home wish list
Unfortunately not outdoor-rated. Otherwise, battery powered was exactly what I was looking for. Please update this Aqara.
Do I specifically need their hub, or didn’t Hue also use Zigby, can I use my Hue hub?
You need to use an Aqara hub, but as I’ll talk about in my video next week, that can be one of Aqara’s HomeKit cameras.
My valve is outside, is it weather proof?
Can you still move the valve manually if for some reason the aqara isn’t working?
Thank you eric for your video, just an info, is it combatible just with M3 hub or with M2 od FP2 camera hub aldo?
Is it waterproof? My water shutoff is on the outside of an exterior wall. Florida home.
no its not
Same here that sucks that it’s not waterproof I guess I will have to get the bulldog from YoLink
It is not waterproof and is not meant for outdoors
@@EricWelanderThat is very unfortunate - signed, Florida and the south

What? Many devices require a hub to work with HomeKit. He specifically stated and showed the device working with HomeKit thru the hub.

Ensystec is better! 👍
I don't need this Chinese crap.
