My mom got me a sega with this game when I was 2 and I made it to the third level....however....a lot of parts beyond that level seem VERRY familiar to me. I must have gotten farther then I thought honestly.
just played it again and was reminded of so much. the waterfall with the logs. oh man. games like this taught us to keep trying no matter how long it takes, never give up! games today are too easy.
My favorite part of the movie was when Simba had to battle his way out of the depths of hell by fighting leopards and riding stones across rivers of lava, then gets jettisoned to safety by an active underground volcano. So classic.
Thanks for uploading at 60fps. Finally a longplay channel where we can see the games how they really run. The only thing these Genesis games need is a composite filter to blend the dithering and make the colors look as intended.
Composite is not necessarily needed, it depends on each person's tastes. The game also looks great via RGB on CRT screen or on HD TV with filters (scanlines + slight blur). Amiga games also use lot of dithering and they're also better watched in RGB. RGB gives you better colors so that's another huge plus but composite is fine, especially on Mega Drive since it has the composite which blends pixels the best and since on the other hand the Mega Drive has the best RGB outpout of its generation, it's a win-win situation.
People these days: Dark Souls is the hardest game ever back Kids back in the 80s and 90s: you think you know hard but you don't *has flashbacks Lion King game*
For some reason as a kid I never made it past Simba's exile. There was a bit that at the time seemed impassable. Looking at this gameplay I've no idea why it seemed like that!
This game was really a test of hand eye coordination and reaction time/timing. I couldn't get past the stampede level back in the day. I should pull it out and see if I can do it today.
I have always wished that they could have made a "can you feel the love tonight" level and had that instead of the be prepared level which doesn't even happen in the movie, Simba doesn't run through a lava place after he sees Mufasa's ghost 😂. In my vision, a can you feel the love tonight level could have featured as the first level as adult Simba directly after hakuna matata and it would be the last level to feature killing lizards and bugs, it would have the music used in the end credits and you would see Nala at the end 😀
Actually, this game features cut content from the movie. There would have been more adventures after Simba first meets Timon & Pumbaa. Walking back to Pride Rock would have had Simba actually go through a hot lava mess as well. But it's Disney and you always get a lot of content that is cut. The movie could have easily been 100 minutes long if you ask me. Simba goes far too fast from Mufasa's death to being a grown up.
@@dustinnoneya3217 I wish ! But knowing Disney, they won't. Even Aladdin was about Aladdin's mom at first, she was supposed to have a huge role in the movie but she was cute completely. I bet a lot of Disney movie enjoyers don't know this fact.
I can still remember the first time I beat this game. Scar is easier to beat than you think. Continue striking at him until you can thrown him over the edge.
Could never EVER get past the second level as a kid, but one day we did and me and my sister freaked out! Since the 2nd level was so hard we already accepted our fate that we wouldn’t make it past the 3rd….until we did. Freaked out even more and then def got the game over screen in the 4th level lol but back at it again over 20yrs later on an emulator with a determination to see the end!
Being 42 years old and actually playing this game on both Sega Genesis and super Nintendo I would have to say that the super Nintendo version was the best in sound track and sound effects within the game I feel like the game was just best on the super Nintendo overall
I played Sega only when I was 4 and 5, after that my dad sold it (without my sister and me knowing, we did cry tons when we found out), I remember having over 50 games, and one of them was the lion king. Few days ago I saw lion king and aladin on steam and decided to buy it, disappointed that it wasn't aladin game that I used to play. The only thing I remembered as a child that it was extremely tilting lol. As I started playing, I realized that I remembered most of the things, I guess it was tilting enough for me to vaguely remember stages as I played them now. 2nd stage was the hell, but I also remembered it being longer for some reason (and way harder), it was hard now, but not cuz of the stage... but because of the bugs. Simba wouldn't properly attach him self on tails which was annoying. You also couldn't do long jumps unless u started running first (maybe thats how the game is, but I personally don't remember that being issue on sega). The 3rd stage had toooooons of bugs. One of the biggest one is bird that can't die. No matter how many times i stomped on it, it didn't die. At my last life I decided to ignore the bird and run for my life, which resulted in 4 birds chasing me and than jumping into hyenas would temporarily bug my camera view and my movements would freeze for a second. But second was enough for hyena to bite me once and for me to die. Yes, had to do everything all over again. I managed to beat it in my second run now that I knew the bugs. 4th stage was easy, idk how i couldn't beat it when I was a kid tbh. I got to 5th stage and during stone chase I couldn't beat it. See in my entire time of playing this game I NEVER knew u could roll! So after wasting all of my lives on the stone part and had to redo the entire game again. I raged quit (nostalgia lol). And thats how I came to this video lol Thank you for teaching me about the roll!
I remember once i managed to throw scar off that ledge at 33:05, but since u were not meant to the game didn't end and i couldn't move onto the last bit of the level lol
Me and my mate came home drunk as fuck the other week and were up til 5am trying to get past the second level, tried again sober and we still couldn't figure it out
I just beat this today, decades after I failed repeatedly while playing rental copies. I am thoroughly convinced that Louis Castle hated children and wanted them to suffer. Pretty sure Lion King was harder than shinobi 2, shinobi 3, dynamite heady (US), and both Ecco the Dolphins.
The digitized speech is exceptionally impressive on this game, compared to some Megadrive/Genesis games. Shows that the Sega was capable of high quality speech/samples.
It was ultimately Disney's fault that the game is so hard. The devs tried to fight it, but were forced to make last minute changes to arbitrarily raise the difficulty so kids couldn't beat it in a weekend. In that front they definitely succeeded.
I have the original version uploaded on my channel. video of gameplay from the actual 1994 sega genesis cartridge. however my screen recording is not as nice as this.
maaaaan the music and just seeing these levels as an adult is crazy

I'm 25 now and I still get curbstomped by monke boi at Hakuna Matata
I have never been more proud of myself as when I beat this game at age 7
I’m stuck on the hakuna matata level on switch- it’s that darn waterfall.
@@volespirit247
All you have to do is keep jumping and don't stop. You'll get to the top eventually.
That's kind of sad to hear that the last time you were ever proud of yourself was when you were kid.
Hope life gets better for you.
I don't think I even got to the boneyard.

Can't believe I spent my childhood only till third stage.... Good there's a guide now🤣

Naw, favorite part was scaling a waterfall to fight King Kong’s Cousin.
Domingo 17 de septiembre del 2023 Que noltalgia este juego 1 de los mejores de la sega!!🙋🏻♂️❤️🇦🇷👏🏻
Love this game forever, I tried so very hard as a kid to beat it.
One thing's for sure, it looks gorgeous.
Music's great too for a Genesis game.
As many hours, weeks and months as I had spent trying to beat this, its hard to believe that this whole game is really only 38 minutes. 😅
Some people can beat it in just 12 minutes. Over an hour shorter than the movie!
Wow the music from the Scar fight gave me crazy nostalgia. I remember this game, Sonic 3 and Jurassic Park the most. Great games.
Thanks for uploading at 60fps. Finally a longplay channel where we can see the games how they really run. The only thing these Genesis games need is a composite filter to blend the dithering and make the colors look as intended.
Glad you enjoyed it - all the videos I upload use the console's native refresh to preserve as much detail as possible 🙂

I feel that this game is the reason why I feel so prepared for so much today.
I used to rent games as a kid. And play non stop until i finish them in 2 -3 days. I remember this with so much love
Mí hermano y yo jugábamos este juego cuando éramos niños, buenos recuerdos

Superb game. I played it again recently after 20 years on my PSVita.
Great gameplay as well. You make this game look easy.

For my it was hakuna matata the waterfall jumping thing was soooo hard I could never reach the top!!!!!
I swear the same here!!
I beat it as a kid but it was hard. This guy makes it look easy.
This game used to drive me nutz when I was a kid, I would rage quit but after 30 tries, I manage to beat the game. 🤣
the sample quality here is nuts!
One of the best games even I still own it and the system
Very tough game (never could get past the second level without cheating) but very nice presentation and game feel.
I remember the 2nd level being annoying. Too many 1 mistake deaths.
How do you cheat lol?
this game takes me back to when I was a little youngling at the age of 2!
The nostalgia is REAL!
Stampede music still hits hard after all these years.
The second level is still harder than Dark Souls to me
This game was really a test of hand eye coordination and reaction time/timing. I couldn't get past the stampede level back in the day. I should pull it out and see if I can do it today.

For a Sega Genesis game, both the visuals and soundtrack are incredible.
how awkward that they put Timon and Pumbaa-related stuff in the game before simba even met those two
Looks like it was played on Genesis Plus GX with the Nuked YM2612 audio driver. Correct?
This was a great time waster for me in '95 or so. LOL I got to level 7 or 8 one and only one time. Very fun.
