Congratulations to all those who have contributed to the protection of beech forests and now we should perhaps remind the owners of beech forests elsewhere where they are not under the protection of UNESCO but are equally important for the live of us all.

Great photography of these wonderful protected areas. Only due to the green parties and NGO's who care about nature have these areas been saved. If people had not stood up and said no more destruction, they would have all gone. Well done all involved in their protection.

These protected areas are under threat again my Romania's weak government not doing their job properly to protect the UNESCO designated sites. Illegal logging is taking place and although the police in Romania have tried a little to stop it, they have not gone in force to stop it. The few honest police officers who have tried to stop the illegal logging have been assaulted and hospitalised by the violent loggers. The government of Romania should send in armed police in force and confiscate the logger's trucks, tractors and chainsaws and make arrests but they seem reluctant to do so. Please write to your MEP if you care about the beech forests and ask them to do their job by pushing for sanctions against Romania in order to force them to obey what they have signed up to.
