- How to make deep fried cake doughnuts at home! These cake donuts made from scratch are super easy to make! Much easier then I thought! Who doesn't love a homemade doughnut!

Ingredients:
1/2 cup Sugar
2 1/2 Cups Flour
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup melted butter
2 tsp vanilla extract
Oil for Deep frying
1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 cup sugar for coating
Directions:
In a large bowl mix together all the dry ingredients. Form a well in the dry ingredients and pour in all the wet ingredients. Then mix until well blended. Now cover, and place in the refrigerator for 1 - 2 hours.
Heat your oil to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Flour your surface, roll your dough out to around 1/2 in thick, and then use a doughnut cutter to cut your shapes.
Fry your doughnuts until they turn golden brown, turning once during cooking. Set aside on paper towels. Before doughnuts are completely cooled, toss them in your cinnamon and sugar mixture to coat them. Enjoy!

When I was a kid, my mom would make donuts using premade biscuit dough and a bottle cap to cut out the middle to make donut holes. After they were fried, she would roll them in sugar and they were delicious.
I've basically made this, but I bake them in a muffin tin and call them Cinnamon Sugar Puffs! When they come out of the oven the tops get rolled in melted butter and then a cinnamon and sugar mix. They are delicious! However, if you are not in the kitchen when they come out of the oven you might not get any :)!!

Cake doughnuts are great with cider in the fall. They were great a couple of time my mom was a room mother when I was in 3rd and 4th grades. I helped cook them too (at home). We made cake doughnuts with sugar and cinnamon on them. We shook them up in a bag. This was pre-doughnut holes days at doughnut shops (1973-1974 or so).
Tim Norton's donuts are baked. They come frozen and are baked and freshly glazed or iced in store. I worked there for two years and honestly, nothing better than a warm chocolate glazed timbit 😍😍😍

Quick, easy donuts...used canned biscuits. Then after trying too in mixture of powdered sugar and slight amount of milk and vanilla extract. I don't measure but a basic glaze mix.

When I was a kid we would use biscuit dough and make donuts and cover with sugar etc. Great job!
Next batch of them you should make a maple glaze to put on them or use powdered sugar on them :-)

I have been wanting to make doughnuts too! I've never made them before, so I think I'm going to give your recipe a try. Do you suggest using a Dutch oven, vs a regular pot, since it's so deep? I'm afraid of splatter. Also, what are "Elephant Ears"?? Lol
