I agree entirely ! I follow plenty of fitness social media's for a mixture of motivation, inspiration, tips or just liking what they post.. I know that everyone is different and sometimes those bodies are unachievable based on how my body is, and so I try not to look at them in the hope I can be just like them, but more as 'they've worked hard, I should work hard'.
I have come across an image so many times that says something like 'if the bar ain't bending you're pretending' or something, which I find disheartening because I can't lift that heavy and it feels like I should be ! But then I kick myself and say 'that isn't my goal, why am I getting annoyed by it?'.
    Great video :D

This video carries such a great message. I worry for young teenagers that see skinny models in magazines that have been airbrushed and nipped and tucked in every way possible are going to think that they have to look like this to be attractive and accepted by the world.
We're all different. All have different interests and likes/dislikes. No one should be made to feel like they need to conform to a social trend such as bodybuilding or anything in relation to this.
People may think they're living a healthy lifestyle when really the immense pressure they're putting themselves under to achieve drastic goals can have quite adverse affects on their health. Just do what you love :)

You are so right!! I love to work out because it makes me feel sooo good, even if I'm tired or I'm having a day when I kinda don't feel good about my body. After my workouts I immediately feel so great! It's hard work, I'm literally dead afterwards but it makes my soul feel so much better. And I honestly do believe that everyone should experience this feeling at least once. For me it was a long way until I felt like really good after my workout, but it's so worth it. All about the right mind set.
Oh and of course I'm one step closer to my "perfect" body. Just to make it clear, I really love my body and the shape and everything. I'm just trying to improve. So you are totally right - you have to be happy in the present moment, because abs or big arms won't make you happy at all!

I just got off the scale and am down 38 pounds since December 28th. (I have 12 pounds to get to my weight goal) What you are saying in this video is exactly what has been going through my mind every time I see someone saying that if I try hard enough I could look like them too. I will spare you my workout plan, but rest and nutrition is part of my success too. Then I see this, just now and have been reinforced in what I've been doing. I mean... I have ab muscles I can see now! And you don't have to be in the right light to see them! I NEVER saw them before... Never ever! You guys have been a huge inspiration! I just did it at my own pace and the results have been, emotional. I'm 5'10'', 48 years old, and tickled pink! I just wanted to thank you for being real and caring.

This was really great John. When I was around 16-18 I used to think my life would be so much better if I just lose that 5kg or 10kg, I was always linking being happier to losing weight even though I was never overweight and ate clean 90% of the time.
Around the time I turned 20 it felt like one day I just woke up with a completely different mindset. I started to care less about how others saw me physically and worked on being happy with myself. I started getting just that little bit more outdoors and started to feel really great, happy, and healthy inside and have learnt that it's not how I look that makes me happy it's the experiences, friends, health, family, and opportunities I have in life.
I'm doing my finals in university and will be graduating in September. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, and I'm ok with that. I'm just looking forward to the future adventures and finding what I want to do in life :)

Thanks! Although I certainly need to lose weight, I train with my coach 3 days a week so I can be strong and stay above the ground for as long as I can. I have found that the gym can be intimidating - but the consistent effort, showing up each workout ready to go, not complaining has not only made me stronger BUT has made me happier. I still have a long way to go to get to a healthy weight but there is a satisfaction that comes from a successful workout and slow, steady progress. You guys are awesome and your message and consistent encouragement are appreciated!

This couldn't have come at a better time. Today I have been beating myself up. I qualified as a pt in july last year after losing 6 stone and wanting to help people. I have a full time job and now pt'ing in my spare time.. so I can't train as often. I am constantly putting myself down because I think I am putting on weight and I'm not the ideal person like people on Instagram. Seriously..m the best timed video for me so thank you. It made me really think... I'm doing this for me. I always have and always will. So long as I'm healthy and happy, who cares? It's about me and my body. Thank you :)

Love this video. I realised only very recently that the people I was comparing myself too were firstly nothing like me in body shape or size and secondly as you said we're tensing or posing and they too probably look chubby eating pizza on the sofa haha. It's hard tho with all these "perfect" images to not judge yourself. And we shouldn't because there's already too many people judging us already. I'm 23 so god knows how younger people deal with this growing up now.

Thank you for such a great video! I've had so many trainers that felt if I didn't look like them I wasn't working hard enough. So much so it's put me off training entirely. It even made me doubt why I was training at all, which was to look decent and be healthy. Thanks for reminding me to be strong where it really counts!

  • @ZoneFitnessUK

I went through a process of eating as much as I could as often as I could and working out 7 days a week to try and achieve massive arms! To get there I sacrificed my social life, my health, my relationship and my mental health. I thought that having massive arms would make me happy. Turns out when I got there, I was the most unhappy I had ever been. My relationship failed, I scared my family and even though I was at 84KG (which was just unnatural for my body type and 5ft 9" physic) I still was not happy.
I am now back down to a healthier 75KG, I'm leaner, more toned, fitter and most of all, a lot more happier with my body image. I no longer worry about my arm size. My goals have changed now. I'd love to have massive arms but in reality - thats not what my body is made more. I'm naturally lean so I have embraced this and just want to be toned all over.
At the end of the day, I made myself unhappy trying to reach unrealistic goals and worrying about issues that were pointless. Don't stress about having amazing arms or a washboard stomach. Embrace life! Enjoy family/friends/relationships. Keep fit. Be healthy. And Love Life!

Proberbly one of the best vids you've done. I don't mean that in a negative way. My hubby has suffered with depression for a long time (7/8 years) and it nearly took its toll on him and us as a family. However, through CBT and some light excerise he is slowly but surely getting better. on Sunday we are gonna start running so not only are we spending time together we are training which in turn will give my hubby the natural endorphins. The mind is the most important part of the human body, should that not work properly nothing else will. X

Thank you for making this video. I recently had a eureka moment when I see myself as I was and not the distorted image I keep in my head. Yes, I do want to flatten my belly a little but I have a fantastic hourglass shape and I am proud of that, a bit squishy but nothing major and nothing my new hula hoop can't fix. Come on people, love yourselves more, I'm sure you can find on thing. Us Brits are normally rubbish and complimenting ourselves, this needs to change.

thanks for this video, ive just picked up going to the gym again recently and adapting a better healthier diet for the simple reason of being able to show some pride in my appearance.
so far things have been going quite well ive noticed a lot of decent changes, i quit drinking and go to the gym about 4 times a week and adapt a fresher more protein based diet and it feels kinda good.
i do wonder sometimes though... what happens if ive kinda put all my eggs in one basket hoping that the gym and changing my appearance will help me find self confidence and a more happy person, when i finally get there will i still be a mile away from anything i want to to achieve? who know, suppose its best to give it a go and find out.
