    I love the idea of being able to appreciate and admire the dresser out in your dining space. I think cultivating a home with pieces of furniture that are beautiful, functional, and special is so important. I think you won’t regret the joy of seeing that beautiful piece out in your main living space daily. It was built to be seen and used. Let it see life and it’ll tell a story of that life for years to come.

      I’m definitely wanting to move the dresser out of the closet. I’m just waiting for the physical motivation to align with the mental motivation. It’s going to be a big and HEAVY project. 😅

    I think you should definitely try switching those dressers! Give the beautiful and sturdy one a chance to see the light 😊

      I definitely want to give the dresser a go out in that living space. I’m just NOT looking forward to moving it. 😵‍💫

    A note that i bought a piece of beadboard panel from home depot 🇨🇦 and used that for the back of an ikea item that lost that crappy original backing. Good for you for pushing through the projects - you are an inspiration!

      That’s a good idea!! I’m pretty sure the back to ours is tucked away somewhere in the house/garage. But I know the guaranteed way to find it quickly would be to go out, buy something to replace it and it then it would just magically turn up. 😅Thanks so much for watching.☺️

      Thanks so much for watching! ☺️💕 This video really got me noticing all the areas like these that I need to address and I’m thinking this week’s video is going to be a Part 2. 😅

    That was a huge accomplishment getting the schoolwork sorted! And 100% yes to the dresser in the dining room. It's a great piece of furniture.

      Having that schoolwork dealt with is such a huge relief. So much more space to hoard things I’ll toss in a few years. 😅 I’m seriously considering moving the dresser! But it’s such an ordeal to relocate, I will be procrastinating for the next 10-30 business days. 🙈🤣

    The top of your son’s dresser is nearly a carbon copy of my daughter’s dresser lol. The legos, craft items, and little collections! ❤

      That’s so sweet. 💕☺️ It reminds me of how I was when I was a kid, but it also reminds me of my grandmas house haha. It will be a sad day when their little collections go away. ☹️

    I feel the same. I need to tackle similar areas. A catch all drawer by the front door and the cabinet above the dryer. It’s the time of year I feel I have some time after summer. Thanks for the inspiration

      There’s just something about this time of year where things slow down and it feels like we can give ourselves the permission to be inside again. I love it. 😅 Thank you for watching! 💕

      Thanks for watching! 😊 Im definitely leaning in the direction of moving the dresser out to that main living space… eventually. 😅 When I have the mental and physical energy to deal with that relocation because it is HEAVY.😵‍💫

    I'm going to be the outlier here and suggest keeping the precious dresser in your closet until Alec is older. It would only be a couple of years and you can still enjoy it whilst in your closet. It seems very special to you, so I think the peace of mind - knowing it was safely out of the way of exuberant boys - would be worth the sacrifice.
    As far as hot mess areas of the house I need to tackle? 🤔 First the garage and my garden shed, followed by the guest room closet - full of sewing and craft supplies - and papers 😡 Thanks for the motivating video!

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому +1

      I REALLY want to move it. But… at this rate, the amount of motivation I have to actually move that VERY SOLID piece of furniture, Alec will be Jackson’s age. 😅 You reminded me of my craft stuff that needs to be addressed. This week’s video may have to be 5 more areas I’m tackling. 😵‍💫 Thank you for watching!! ☺️💕

    I think you should enjoy your grandmas dresser. It’s something that brings you joy and it’s better to live in it and risk a scratch or dent ( which can be repaired if needed) than to feel bad about it every time you see it in the closet maybe thinking each time “ I wish I was enjoying this more” just my opinion. 🖤 I have my great grandmas credenza type thing and it’s amazing. Doesn’t fit my style but I’m determined to make it work even if it means I change the finish / color because I want to move it to the living or dining room eventually.

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому

      You’re right. It can be repaired, and really for the most part, old furniture with bumps and bruises doesn’t really bother me anyway. And I do feel bad when I see it in the closet, but I also feel dread when I think of getting it out of the closet. 😅 I think it’s so special to have pieces of our grandparents. This dresser isn’t my exact style color wise.. but like you, I’m determined to make it work. That means working around the color though because my grandma would rise from the grave and my family would disown me if I painted it. 🤣

    I would absolutely swap the dressers. When you are a granny you can always get the dresser refinished, but it should be enjoyed now. Spoken as a granny. :)

      Very true! Thank you for your granny words of wisdom. 🥰 I like the idea of reviving it to its glory at some point if needed. I’m feeling committed to this swap! I’m just dreading the relocation of this VERY SOLID piece of furniture. 😅

    We inherited a gorgeous, midcentury dining set and hutch from my great aunt and uncle (who had been together since they were teens, lived to their late nineties, and died exactly one week apart [that’s not relevant information, I just love their love story]). I have so many memories growing up spending holiday meals with family around that set. They never had kids themselves, so the pieces were all in pristine condition when they were handed down to me a couple years ago. My now three-and-four-year-olds have since marked, scratched, and dirtied it all up with their messy meals, arts, crafts, and “hobbies.” That stressed me out at first. And I wasted a lot of time trying to make it all look like it could still be featured in whatever catalog it appeared in back in the sixties or seventies or whatever. But I know my aunt and uncle would be over the moon happy to know how much life we’re continuing to get out of their furniture, how many memories we’re continuing to make with this next generation of our family. I swear I can sometimes feel them there and it is really, really cool.
    Anyway, one vote move your grandma’s beautiful dresser to the dining room.
    :)

      Awww! I love that story! (even the “not relevant info”) ☺️💕 Thank you for sharing that with me. Hearing that makes me feel better. For the most part imperfections in furniture (especially older furniture) doesn’t bother me at all, but I feel a smidge nervous putting this one in the cross fires of our day to day life. Like you said though, we’re making memories and actually using the furniture! Chances are when I’m gone my boys won’t want anything to do with it, so I’d better enjoy it while I’m here. 😅

    I personally would rather have the beautiful furniture on display. I’d rather see something used and loved than in pristine condition and not appreciated to the fullest. Marks and scuffs are life. It means a home is lived in. A home doesn’t have to be perfect. It needs to just be happy.😊. Loved today’s video and the music was beautiful.❤

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому

      I’m really leaning towards moving the dresser. Furniture that isn’t perfect doesn’t bother me, as of my stuff has flaws. I’m not sure what’s holding me back, (probably the fact it has sentimental value) but I feel like it really needs to be showcased! Thank you for watching. ☺️💕

    I think the dresser would lovely in the dining area, but I can’t tell if the drawers are big enough for what you’re currently keeping in the sideboard? Unless you’re not planning on switching out the contents 🤔

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому +1

      There will be a couple storage systems that’s I’ll have to rethink (a couple of containers I use to store some of the art supplies). Otherwise I think everything should fit.. except my sewing machine. 😅

  • @jennyjenkins877
    @jennyjenkins877 4 місяці тому +2

    I wouldn't switch the dresser with the sideboard... it would inevitably end up with paint spills and other disasters. I'd definitely fix the shelf situation with some L-brackets though.

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому +1

      I’m leaning towards moving it and hoping for the best. 🙈 But it’s safe for now because it’s going to be quite the task to accomplish the relocation so naturally I’m putting it off. 😅

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому

      That sounds like a particularly hard area to tackle! Things that aren’t yours but then probably some things that feel sentimental. I would be procrastinating as well. 🙈

    Regarding your grandmothers dresser, did she have it in a closet or did she display it somewhere to to experience life? I think you explained how you would use it. Change it and appreciate it everyday!

    • @SimplifyingTheSatherns
      @SimplifyingTheSatherns  4 місяці тому

      She had it in her bedroom, and while I’ve though of making it the dresser out in our bedroom I know getting up in the middle of the night and seeing my reflection in the mirror will put me in a state of panic everytime. 😅 So the dining room it is haha. I’ll get it out there someday. I’m just waiting for the motivation to strike to make the relocation happen because it is going to be quite the process. 🤪

    Do you have a "catch all" place/basket/box ? I've tried that on the Airstream and I still have to decluttter often. Now I'm heading back to home base and will have to "re set" that space. It's a constant battle when you're the only estrogen in the home 🍍

      I do have one in my kitchen, but it’s frankly too small and neglected far more than I care to admit. It’s probably better that it’s not huge now that I think about it. 😅 And yes, being the only woman in the household can be very draining. 🤪
