Im french canadian and ive never seen this before. However, we have here what we call ''guédille'' wich is a hot dog bun filled with french fries and/or anything that is NOT a wiener. I heard it was invented because generations ago, the church would forbid people to eat meat on fridays and hot dog stands were losing money so they came up with guédille.
Great story. And a guédille sounds right up my street - definitely going to give it a go.

Chips are great by themselves, but placing it between two slices of bread just takes away from the flavor and texture of it, "unless" the bread is firm and airy, like most european bread. So it only works because both carbs can be eaten by itself, unlike rice or spaghetti where a sauce or a sidedish is really needed.

A lot of pissing about for a chip butty
it wasnt pie shaped and didint contained boiled meat or minth... thats rare in anglos cuisine =P
If I ordered a chip butty, and was given that, I throw straight in the bin.

Reheats and refries? What? You know what? Meh, I bet you know nothing (that's why you post this comment, right?). By boiling cut potatoes, it creates a rough surface, absorbs oil and make it crispy. First fry is to dry out the surface the chips and and cook the inside through, then second fry is to form the crust, neither reheat nor refry, even McDonald's does that (expect for boiling the chips, it takes time and they are lazy).

It's a British and Australian staple, and its so simple, yet so great.
snake although here in Sydney we call it a chip sandwich, and here, French fries only if they're 5mm or smaller in diameter.
