► Love Island contestants Megan Barton-Hanson and Kendall Rae Knight, who starred in the 2018 edition, have defended the producers of the show following the death of two former participants.
Sophie Gradon (2016 show) was found dead last year and Mike Thalassitis (2018 show) died on Friday.
Following their deaths, health secretary Matt Hancock said TV reality shows have a duty of care for contestants after they become famous.
The show has said it will offer “bespoke training” to all future contestants.

To many youngsters crave this reality lifestyle and fame but it’s all false. The young guy who took his own life ( May he RIP ) clearly had his demons to bear. TV reality and the real world are two very different avenues. Living the lifestyle of a celeb must be soul destroying. It’s fake.

Combination of his friends death back in December then his nans death and money worries plus the pressure of public and lack of work and lastly social media. Sad but wasn't just love island. look at celebrities who have killed themselves in the music industry to.

Yes true probably. People don't realise that fame won't solve their problems. It only adds to them. Pressure is far to much. Best to live private quiet life.
The problem isn't love Island itself. The problem is the people watching love Island that don't realise that these people are human too. I don't know is it society in general or the type of people who watch reality TV shows, but the abuse these people get is horrible. Take Josh replacing Georgia for another woman, I'm pretty sure he was receiving death threats at the time and was getting relentless abuse. Too bad people are now pointing the finger at the show itself instead of themselves for the abuse they give people on social media.

The problem is that in the Western world especially UK people don’t care about little things like conversations anymore. The internet has taken over everything and social media that it takes peoples lives for others to realise and it will continue. Many of them can’t say Mike didn’t try reaching out but we are all busy and can’t tell when someone needs help unless something like this happens.

Jeremy Kyle was on air for 14 years and gets axed IMMEDIATELY after a guest killed himself, even though it was never proven that it was the show's fault (He had debts and had been in trouble with the law). Love Island has been on air 4 years and has had 2 suicides In the space of 9 months. . . But it's still allowed to continue?! Double standards much?
Two contestants are dead. Dress it up all you like that show let them down massively.

@@danielstark7239 i am however saying that the spotlight these people and others find themselves in was secretly, quietly, making them break apart and suffer. then you add in personal circumstances and my point is Im confident that these folks are exploited and wouldnt dream of maintaining any real sincerity with the castmates, its all disposable and no welfare follow up.

Sad that after two suicides of Sophie and Mike love island bosses are now looking at extra measures tell u what axe all reality TV shows or at least do the pyscharic evaluation s before it's too late for other vulnerable people to many people slip thru the net

Ella Enchanted it’s leaked somewhere and shows that her family said her boyfriend had something to do with it and that’s why he killed himself before he could be questioned and apparently there’s no reports of it because it’s an on going investigation and her family didn’t want it all over the internet
I’m just saying what everyone else is thinking. These girls can’t really say much they weren’t even in the villa with Mike? They aren’t exactly ones to speak about his life as if they were close to him. This should have come from people who were in the villa in 2017. No question

I still can’t believe it. Mike was nothing like the arrogant, egotistical character we saw on screen. He was portrayed as the villain on Love Island, every show needs one and he simply got caught up in the player mentality. He felt like he needed to fulfil the character the edit had created like a role almost on some soap opera. He was just about to ditch the limelight and pursue a career in hospitality. His restaurant was days away from opening. Then he lost his Grandmother who he was incredibly close to and the pressure combined with the loss became too much. If he hadn’t felt he had this ridiculous persona to live up maybe he would have had the courage to reach out to someone for support. He was a gentle, kind hearted young man away from the cameras and he truly had everything to live for. Regardless of your opinion on these types of shows, remember these people are very young, naive and highly impressionable, they are blindsided and manipulated for the sake of entertainment. All they can see is a quick way to make a large sum of money and they don’t even consider the repercussions. Very few are equipped for the extreme level of criticism and public backlash as they emerge and become a household name,. It take a certain type of person to be able to cope with this type of scrutiny and fame, sadly we’re learning behind the scenes some feel their lives and reputations are irreparable. Right there is where these deep rooted, surge of damaging, negative emotions begin and thoughts of suicide become a regular occurrence. The worst part is you can rarely see the signs that someone maybe toying with the idea to end their life. I think the majority looked at Mike from the outside and saw him as someone who had a fabulous life and the last person to harm themselves, when in fact he was broke, in debt and just wanted out. I think we think of women when we talk about insecurities over appearance but these boys are being held to the same standard and are being literally trolled to death. These comment sections on UA-cam are a prime example, another one that’s awful is the Daily Mail Online. Some of the things people write shouldn’t be allowed but it continues regardless of how many people we”re losing to suicide, It makes the headlines for a couple of days, people are posting prayer hands and crying emojis then they’re straight back at it. Social media platforms and reality shows really are a blessing and a curse. Rest in peace Mike, gone but never forgotten 🌹

Oh for God's sake. When you apply for a show which is aired to millions of people, you should expect that not everyone will like you and you will be trolled on social media. It comes as part of the package! Don't like it? Then don't go on a show like this.
