Ludwig's ability feels so powerful, I love it!
I love the Neuschwanstein reference in this ability
Ludwig is just the height of hilarity. Man really out here being like "yeah, Imma start building all this stuff. No clue when I might finish them though..."
It's such an immaculate troll ability I love everything about it.
Well.... it's not really powerful in the early game before you can build tons of districts.
@@SadBamboo Honestly, considering that City Centers do count for the adjacency bonus, this ability might actually be incredibly strong in the early game - I mean, in the first 30 turns, you can easily get the equivalent of 3-4 free monuments without having to spend one bit of production, and not even having to really build settlers like Rome would.
@@SadBamboo To be fair you are germany though
Sejong drew the short straw in this group for his bonus
It's a janky ability that has a good payoff if you prepare for it well, but it just feels so very game-y to swap everything into science production the turn before you pop a new era open. It's something I'd definitely not find fun to play around at all.
Sejong’s agenda of disliking those ahead of him in science and culture seems very odd. Korea was never one to have a superiority complex like feudal China. And Sejong’s nature of his reforms and such made him favor wanting education and such to be widely spread to all. Him disliking those who are well learnt is kind of counter intuitive to everything he stood for. Granted, they probably put this weird agenda just so it would be different from base Korea. Which actually likes those with high science. In general, Sejong probably got the shorter end of the stick for this pack. Besides what I just said, his actual ability is lacking in power and isn’t the most fitting thing they could have gone for Sejong.
i think they consider it from a mechanical perspective which makes sense
Couldnt agree more. But I think the dev isnt keen on making new agenda but instead making the reverse of available agenda, his agenda is the reverse of Peter. Regarding Sejong leader ability, since his purpose of Hangul is for mass litteracy I would prefer his bonus to be science per population. Maybe like "Korea city with Seowon will grant extra 1 science per population, while cultural district is 1 culture per population"
世宗穿的衣服是永乐皇帝儿子穿的因为韩国是中国的附属国他的技能应该是开局可以结盟找个爸爸
🤓
He's a monster on shorter game speeds, not that great on longer speeds like marathon
All these new leaders are great, but who I really want to play as is Dan Quayle
Unfortunately he is unready.
Special Ability: "Welcome to Mr. Bush, Mrs. Bush, and My Fellow Astronauts" - Receive a free Spaceport district when Democracy is unlocked
Dan Quayle's in game ability would be to automatically lose, and his other ability would be a -10 to agriculture of not knowing how spell "potato."

@@BadVideoWatcher1 lol
Sejong was so OP in civ 5 but here he looks significantly weaker. Regardless, looking forward to playing all of them especially Ludwig.
He is about the same just with out the tile buff
its a shame hes much weaker than seondeok
@@SirKupoNut Ya, i mean he gives you more up front but at best he shaves off a few turns on a tech and only once per era
Once he drops his book, you know you screwed it up.
Ludwig's ability is so weird, I love it.
It seems like the devs got the two Theodoras mixed up. The civ animation appears to be based on a mosaic depicting Theodora, wife of Justinian, from the 6th century. Then there was another Theodora in the 9th century, wife of Theofilos, and that was the one who ended iconoclasm.
What makes you think they ever referred to the Theodora from 9th century? I don't see any relation
@@iraasta Her ability- 'Restorer of Icons'
They changed her ability to “Metanoia” in-game. Somebody probably realized the mistake.
@@evanshirley6089 So wait they based her ability on a different person
Looking forward to work ethic and desert folklore with Theodora. Just plain broken and I love it.
desert?
And Hildegard!
I run Work Ethic a LOT, and the thought of my Holy Sites spitting out, Faith, Culture and Production makes me very intrigued
@@trollofduty007 and Hildegard of Bingen, a Great Scientist, to add Science to that mix. Faith, Culture, Production, AND SCIENCE from one district
@@doctor_ead +6 faith in Holy Site from 6 adjacent desert (or tundra), doubled to +12 from policy card. Then +12 culture from being Theodora and +12 production from Work Ethic. It can get higher than that based on activating Great People, wonders, adjacent districts etc.
It feels like there is already a tonne of civs with a heavy culture focus, was kinda hoping for more production or science centric leader bonuses
Yeah, like, who would expect good production from "Great Builders".
Theodora is great, especially with Work Ethic for versatility or Choral Music for culture snowballing. Considering she can easily have high faith adjacency (due to farms) in almost any land, both WE and ChM seem great choices.
Ludwig is... interesting. Spamming wonders even with no intent to finish them seems both ridiculous and unique. XD
Sejong... Damn. Anansi from Heroes & Legends mode has an overall better ability. With Sejong, you need to plan your scientific and cultural progress around the ability, and the reward is pretty insignificant.
Also, you can mess yourself up by getting free tech from a tribal village (!), wonders such as Oxford University (!!), or even some Great People (boosting "wrong" tech at the "wrong" time), World Congress competitions, and your Steal Boost spy operations. XD
If the ability was for example: "+1 food per Specialist in Seowon and Cultural District. Gain a one-time boost to culture equal to double your science per turn each time you recruit a Great Scientist. Gain a one-time boost to science equal to double your culture per turn each time you recruit a Great Writer", the ability would be a way better. But sadly, it's not.
If only Neuschwanstein castle had been available in Civ VI
There's a good mod for it. Check the Steam workshop.
@@Groaker thanks! I had just dowloaded the mod. Currently playing Ludwig... and so far happy with his ability
The way the music transitions from Byzantium to Germany is very satisfying. Listening back, I guess the timing of the two pieces isn't quite synced up with each other as well as I first thought, but I think it's just the fact that they're in the same key (except whether it's major or minor, I guess), and Byzantium is this low, quiet theme whereas Germany's starts off with a huge crescendo into its climactic part.
Ludwig sounds really interesting and right down my alley!
Some amazing strats to build dense cities, especially when you’ve already got the extra district and squeezing aqueducts, dams, hansas, and commercial hubs together as Germany. Ludwig synergises perfectly with dense theatre squares and wonders to get mega culture, gold and production yields!
Theodora is a really nice alternative to those (like me) who don’t go full domination, still powerful with military, but incentivised to redirect that extra faith towards naturalists and rock bands. Combine with the incentive for farm and new hippodrome faith bonuses and you get a high food, amenities (all yields!), faith, and culture for a powerful wide all rounder. Trying to stay on good diplomatic terms? Just send the heavy cavalry out and pillage for more yields and less grievances!
Sejong sounds weak but he leads a hard science civ that wins big from rushing cheap powerful Seowons as soon as the ancient era, without fear of district planning. If a civ sounds weak, it’s usually cause you can get their bonuses near the start, which is a huge boon. Pop seowons around hills, get early mines around them for that extra science and production and try to blast through science one era at a time. When that final tech turn starts, make cities prioritise science, swap policies (maybe buy if they’re locked), ready your Pingala and see the benefits of science priority flow. In a science win that’s the equivalent of 16 turns of culture generation at a way higher level than you’re likely working with. That could be a good 10% of your civic tree covered there! Seondeok may have strong governor bonuses but they’re stuck to a few cities or spread thin. If you’re going total science 9% bonus culture from a governor in a city that isn’t focusing on culture aint doing much (apparently it’s *every* first era tech so times what I said by 2.5X)
Missed opportunity to include King David IV of Georgia, also known as David the Builder.
Glad to see Thea and Sejong back from Civ5, but Sejong's ability looks underpowered, because you can only trigger it couple of times in the game, and in later eras big(ger) boost to culture won't really matter, because at that point you're most likely winning because you're ahead of science. It will overall save only couple of turns. However, this needs to be tested live while playing, it might be better ability then it looks on paper.
Ludwing looks most OP, especially considering how his ability syncs with rest of the Germany, which is overall building powerhouse.
Thea ability is pretty good, but like Eleanore, her ability doesn't really synch up with rest of her civilization's kit.
Why? She still has the taxis ability giving her +3 combat strength per holy city for combat AND religious units. In combination with her superior faith output, she can win religious victories easier than Basil can. Plus she still isn't bad at domination, if you go for crusade.
@@DickePerserkatze I would honestly play her as faith-domination civ, rather then culture civ, because like I said, for pure culture victory, you don't really get any other bonus on culture or wonder production.
As for faith-domination civ, her getting "natural" culture fixes major issue lot of domination civs have, which is falling in culture in early game.
@@njmfff That's true, but don't underestimate her faith and culture output. With more culture, you can reach the important Civics in the lategame and Wonders faster than anybody else. And with more faith you can buy more Natural Parks and Rockbands.
Honestly i feel like civ devs gave like 5 seconds when thinking about korean abilities lol so unimaginative
Definatley gonna go home and play Theodora. I never understood culture victories but I got one recently and that made me love how it's played. I still have a lot of work to figure out optimization but still enjoyable
The mechanics behind culture victories are annoyingly unclear at first, but they're a great deal of fun once you've figured them out!
Any update on bringing these to console? You've spent years building a console fanbase, and released the previous expansions on console, will these be coming as well?
I NEED the leader pass on console now
Ludwigs swan king ability sounds really powerful, as soon as I heard "even if they are unfinished" I was sold
Civ players: "sweet a second German civ leader!"
Hearts of iron players: "there is another..."
Ah nice those first looks breakdown are back :)
Franklin Delano Roosevelt would've been a great addition to The Great Builders. Or any leader pack.
You know i didn't expect anything all that exciting, i gotta admit ludwig looks the most curious but i think i like all 3.
King Sejong is gonna need some improvement mods.
i love these concepts with a passion. good job
Civ team, you are getting every leader/country I’ve ever wanted in the game! Ludwig II was the final leader I wanted to see! The Neuschwanstein castle is such a beautiful castle that I got to see
Do you get double culture bonus from Holy Sites as Theodora if you choose Choral Music?
I like how they say Theadora was a former actress. Acting wasn't all she did from what I've read. lol
Re: Ludwig's leader ability: If someone else completes the wonder and your half finished wonder disappears, does the bonus remain or does it also go away?
I would assume it goes away. Still extremely powerful for the time it lasts, though.
lo mantiene el bonus
It'd have to go away, lol. Otherwise you could just abuse it by starting Wonders constantly.
@@dandeleon2764 Yeah, I agree. Just was wondering out loud. Arguably, the benefit of getting tourism equal to the culture of tile improvements at castles instead of at flight is more impactful. A fun strategy might be get Suz of Rapa Nui early and rush castles and spam Moai. You can get your tourism up really fast before anyone has a lot of cultural defense.
All three look great! Excited to try them!
Achievements?
Nothing yet
Is Sejong's ability extremely weak and not very fitting with the theme?
Can’t wait to play
Sejong not having Turtle ships makes me sad, i know you not giving leaders units for this but still its such a cool thing
this looks great, can't wait to play this
I would love to see an upgrade for some vanilla civs, like Brazil, Aztecs or Russia... After new civs and leaders they are very underpowered or, at least, they lack some interaction with new features of newer expansions
nice leaders sejong is going to be fun to play
0:30 here says the ability is named "Restorer of Icons", but in-game is named "Metanoia".
Somebody else in the comments pointed out that there was another Theodora centuries later who restored icons, so the original title they give in the video was probably a mistake.
@@evanshirley6089 that's correct, but I felt I needed to mention that change
Beta footage is beta footage
Farms giving adjacency bonuses is crazy strong
They combined The Amorian Theodora with Justinian one
The game that keeps on giving Still would love to see a Civ7 announcement
I thought Sejong was Yongle from the Conquerors of China DLC
Ludwig II... Now I can finally play as the Assyrian like his ancestor Ashurbanipal.
The opportunity to add official Civilization VI's Neuschwanstein Castle was so missed it circled around and hit the players in the nape. It is sad: Ask The Gods.
I just love how ludwig is like ,"bro you can do this, anything is possible in the beginning "
Are any of these going to be available for PS4? The only reason I looked for and watched this video is because I noticed there was an update for the game.
I hope they add more leaders from Civ V, and even some factions too (The Huns, The Shoshone, etc.)
Can someone help? I have these rulers and also the ruler of egypt but my rulers of china is not showing up.
It is noticeable that King Sejong looks heavier compared to his appearance in Civilization 5. This is actually historically accurate as King Sejong was known for his love for meat which ultimately led to him suffering from spondylitis and diabetes. The game's portrayal of King Sejong can be deemed as accurate and well-captured. It is not right for King Sejong to call himself King Sejong because kings of Joseon are given names based on their achievements after death, tho.
Theodora: *comes back*
Me: "beautiful as the day I lost you"
Culture base leader. Now that more my likeing
All of this looks great. I can't find it on Nintendo eShop, however.
this dlc will probably never come to console
The Console updates have been atrocious as of late, also for Mac and ios.
That's not due to Firaxis however, as that's Aspyr's responsibility... which they are sorely lacking in capability.
@@mcihay246 Aspyr is releasing all of these packs on iOS/macOS at once. They have lots of bug issues to fix. As for consoles they will be released sometime in the next century.
1:11 what's the music name?
Is it out already?
yep
For whatever reason, when this update came through to me from Steam -- the existing game I was playing was strip of all my UI mods. No Better Anything screens at all. I was having as great game too.
/mini rant
Ludwig not finishing his wonder is such a meme
Theodora W!
Love!
Ludwigs unique leader ability is him being a failure.I was suprised to see an unsuccessful Leader when i first saw him but this is actually funny.
When will it be on consol 😭
Lake Admirals still a thing?
Considering that Theodora was a Miaphysite, isn't it a little Ironic for her to prefer Orthodoxy?
Miaphysitism is a stance held by many Orthodox churches, so no, it's the opposite of ironic.
Also, most religion preferences in Civ games are based on the location of the empire. The land of the Byzantine Empire today makes up of several countries which majority religion is Orthodox Christianity.
Yes it is and hilariously goofy when she got in hot water for it by the Orthodox but the majority of the Byzantine Empire and Justinian the actual emperor were Eastern Orthodox so her faith more represents the faction.
@@ThePowerofCutleries That's the modern day Eastern Orthodox faith not the Greek Eastern Rite Chalcedonian Faith of Byzantium. Miahpysites were considered heretical, persecuted at times and it even was later even made illegial a century after Theodora to marry them as Orthodoxs. The 2 faiths only reconciled in the last century.
@@tylerellis9097
We learn something new every day. I'd love to know more if you could point me in the direction of a good article or even just a wiki page about the subject. Cheers!
@@ThePowerofCutleries UA-cam deletes comments with links so I recommend just browsing her wikipedia page and the one on Heraclius, as he created the Monthelite faith to bridge the gap between the 2 faiths(and failed). One of the major points contributed to the rise of Islam is the preference of Miahpysites to Muslim rule over Orthodox rule so its page would alongside the oriential orthodox page explain a few things.
Most books cover it but don't focus on it. Im sure you can find a pdf covering the schisms and religious divides relatively quickly though.
When leader pass on PlayStation platform?
When is coming to playstation and xbox?
Is it the last thing to be added to the Leader Pass ?
No, April gets one more pack
@@houndofculann1793 oh ok
I don't understand the Korean leader's ability, could someone explain?
You build as much science as you can, as you normally do with Korea. The turn before you're going to finish researching the first tech of an era you change everything you have into science production (government, culture cards, workers/specialists, governors) and get a one-time massive boost to your culture. I'd find that a very boring way to play, but someone else might find such micromanagement and min/maxing fun. To each their own.
When will you do a Napoléon leader ? Je was much more relevant a leader for France than Catherine, which i honestly dont remember for having donne Anything for France
No Austria ):
Now i would play Sejong instead of Seondeok.
Will these ever be available for PlayStation?
Is this just PC i have ps4 version?
When will it come for switch???
Spain has more of ten centuries of history, the most important empire by 4 centuries, and only has one player in the game, could add by example the kings Carlos I of Spain and V of Germany, Fernando the catholic, Carlos III and the queen Isabel I the catholic
I think finally I have a leader who can give me a religion victory !!!
Any leader fan do that. It’s the easiest victory
@@TheGreendaleHumanBeing
Some of them are much better for others ways of victory than religious victory.
Well, "Would you be interested in a trade agreement with England" is coming up next.
Can you make the next civ be good?
Out of all leaders for germany, its Ludwig. God damn bavarians T.T
can y'all buff Caesar now? Please?
sejong looks like zhudi朱棣, it quite weird
Sooner or later they will give has an Italian leader?
I mean other than 2 Roman character that speak very wrong spoken Latin.
Even Venice again it's okay, but there so many great people.
If there is Pericles I want Dante.
is it me, or is there a noticeable uptick in the model quality for these new leaders.
like ludwig and theodora especially look way too high definition.
not saying I'm opposed to a cosmetic update of all the leaders.
Why no release on consoles!?
Again no update for mac? great job
They said they will add all remaining leaders with the final leader pass update to mac. So once the last one releases you will get all of them...

Ludwig shouldprovide additional movement for naval and embarked troops
Why the hell should Ludwig of Bavaria do anything with naval. Have you seen Bavaria, have you read his history? What does he have to do with naval?
dumbest shit I ve read here...he has literaly NOTHING to do with anything naval..have you even looked at a map of where bavaria is in germany ?
Pretty disappointed Theodora doesn’t get the Tagma (or at least something similar like the Cataphract), I’ll probably pick Basil II over Theodora just for the Tagma.
Tagma is the unique unit she should get it
@@laonxo6726 Dromon is the Civ unique. Tagma is only for Basil II.
Tagma nuts
@@laonxo6726 both the dromon and Cataphract/Tagma are iconic to the Byzantines, shouldn’t have one without the other
Tagma didn't exist when Theodora was empress.
Ludwig wouldn’t get along with Amanitore or Qin Shi Huang. Sejong and Theodora would get along with Peter the Great and Hojo Tokimune.
Making a Bavarian King the Leader of the German Empire is a very special kind of insult. I can see Pussians turnung in their graves haha.
So your DLCs both in price and content are 2x bigger than the base game.
Gg 2k
When I read that Ludwig II was coming for Germany, I had hoped that meant Ludwig the German. At least he had some significance in german history. But Ludwig of Bavaria? Yes, he built castles, but he was incapable of ruling a country. How could he be a world leader?
BRO I WAS LITERALLY THINKING AND READING ABOUT THEODORA TODAY WHAT THE HELL
and i CANT play any of this because consoles dont exist, thanks firaxis :)
Nah....weak Sejong?
Sejong's ability could be focused on science whether Sunduk has to be deleted
I think Theodora is busted with desert folklore or dance of aurora! Hell even Hermetic order and lay lines! Faith and Culture are so synergic that religious or culture wins are guaranteed! And just imagine what can you do with Voidsingers! I love faith heavy civs!
I was hyped for Sejong but not an op ability, sadly!
You don't need both, just surround it with farms.
Yeah, now fix spawn biases.Norway shouldn't not spawn on a non jungle coast
