Captain I hve a question. why we don't use AIS as colisson avoidance since it gives us CPA TCPA which is important for colisson avoidance

Well I will say never RELLY on the AIS i have seen a vessel heading towards us on visual and on the ECDIS screen it was showing that it was heading with us.
I only use it to pick up the names of the vessel well ahead and to refresh my awareness with them (Destination, type of vessel, dimensions any dangerous cargo on boards, etc).
PS it also helps out to do DSC test calls with ships in the vicinity since you may get their MMSI.
There is good information available online please find one I picked up for you www.maritimeprofessional.com/news/arpa-role-collision-avoidance-expert-237130

@@nickthesailorman360 ahh yes on that I agree. We can never fully rely on any of the equipment fully, but ARPA is always the most accurate.I remember when doing seagulls it said that AIS won’t show all the vessels in the vicinity since some of the vessels don’t have it that’s why it can’t be used as a collision avoidance.
