Definitely valid points. One could say I bring too much stuff, for sure as in some days I could probably carry a single 3600 box and be set for the day, but at the same time I am set for whatever the day may bring. I've never been too bad about carrying too many rods, but I have friends who bring 8-10 and use 3-5 so I definitely understand that is real. There are sometimes I don't now what to expect and bring a 5-6 rods, but there are days I'm like screw it I'm targeting the lily pads and milfoil and docks and bringing a jig, frog and a crankbait. To be fair, I did not have problems with my setup of my first kayak. I looked at other people's setups and took the best ideas and it worked.
I have avoided a lot of mistakes by watching your videos. I attended a demo-day spring 2024, and I changed my mind on the kayak size I was going to purchase. I made a spreadsheet with all the brands I was considering buying, with features and prices. I narrowed it down to Hobie or Old Town until Native introduced the Titan X. Without trying them I was sure I wanted the 12.5 and it only cost $400 more than the 10.5. At the demo-day I found the 10.5 just as stable and easier to maneuver. I have been adding accessories slowly after finding a need, I then look around for the best options. You guys have helped a lot with your videos, which has saved me a lot of money.
Hit the nail on the head. I made most of those mistakes buying things that I thought I needed and then thought to myself “I don’t need that ish dummy” And ended up selling it, or giving it away like the kayak wizard anchor. I never stay in one spot for too long. 😂 always on the move. Great information for those who are just starting. Great content bros 😎🤙💪🔥🎣 Know your kayak capacity including your weight. 💡😏
#2 is so tough. I have slimmed down a ton to the point that i rarely bring my crate at all but I rarely bring my ideal 2 rods and usually end up with 4.
Lately,!I’ve been using an ultralight Oru with two rods and one lure box (freshwater). Goal is to maximize my fishing with a select number of lures … no matter what I bring that day. Ultra minimalist. I’m forced to have limited options for top, mid, and deep water and need to work these across the water in different locations. You quickly find the fish.
I’m still using my first ever fishing kayak. 10 feet, weighs 60 pounds, easily fits in my truck bed. It holds two rods. 5-10 minutes, everything is loaded in the truck, 5-10 minutes I’m in the water. Works really well for me
I only regret not knowing that there was going to be a pedal version of my kayak 3 months after i bought mine. I would have waited until it was released, if the sales person had told me it was being released.
5-10 minutes to load up in the garage and 5 minutes into the water at the dock. 8’ bed regular cab truck for the win to keep my 12’ kayak fully kitted out to just slide in and out. I do need to add 1-2 rod holders, so I can carry more than 3. Just using a 12’ Ascend I reclaimed from my son after he grew up and upgraded to real boats.
I come from tube fishing out of my fishmaster tubes. Yep I have three. So I know all about throw and go. Hoping to get a kayak I can do the same in soon.
Hey Guys: Another mistake is switching hands: when the lure hits the water and when reaching for the net. The solution is to continuously hold the rod with the hand you cast with by learning to reel and net with your weak hand.
I have cut some weight off my kayak just by clearing out baits and tackle that I don’t use during winter fishing, I’m running three combos and under 10lbs of tackle
I only ever take 2 rods out now if im fishing my local lake and rivers with just the lures i use for it. I have my freshwater gear seprate to saltwater as well. . if i go outside its maximun 4 rods and a completely different set of lures too my others. The one thing i noticed was your kayaks steering handle like the compass. If you wind with your right hand you want the steering handle on the right side and vice versa. Its much easier to stop winding to steer our kayak then it is to steer while holding a rod in the same hand.
@@aaanglers In Australla most baitcasters are right handed. You need to order in Left Handed ones. Yes it is a issue here. Alot of fisherman here are starting to buy the Lynx now for the ease of changing sides for steering. Before that the Outback and Pro Angler with its dual steering was the most popular in sales here.
In survival preparedness they talk about having the essential and to put it in a “Bug-Out-Bag”! They call it a “12 hour bag”, “24 hour bag” the “72 hour bag” and this year I learned a new one the INCH bag - I’m never coming home bag! Why do you think my mouth dropped at the new higher weight capacity Bonafide XTR 130 that just came out! LOL let’s go! So to me I’m never leaving off the water concept! Tight lines boys!😂😂😂😂
my mistakes are from a saltwater flats perspective.....forgetting(or not securing) your paddle is number one (guess that happens in freshwater as well), getting too close to manatees (they will flip you), forgetting the yak keeps moving even when you aren't paddling as you get close to a redfish school. i have many others that involve denting/destroying my car, getting hung up in mangroves, not paying attention to your dead finger mullet as an osprey or dolphin gets it but the first 3 are my top ones.
I'm absolutely guilty on bring too much tackle on my kayak! It's so hard to limit what I bring because I want to make sure I have options in case the fish only want a certain bait. And then I want to have extras of everything just in case that bait works and a break off too many times!
Do you guys have a video on kayak trailers? I have a old Wilderness Ride 115 that is 68lbs without the seat, but I am getting older and SUV roof top is getting harder when I got it 10 years ago.
Are your Rods no longer available? If not thats a huge bummer. Between work and dealing with some health issues I wasn't able to grab one when they came out. I hate to have missed out.
I have one big problem, catching fish. I have yet to find what the fish are biting where I live. Yes, I have dropped my kayak and even tipping my kayak over at the dock. Luckily I haven't lost any equipment. I have hooked a rod on a tree, almost broke them going under a bridge, but the worst is not making sure my lures are not tied right.
My #1 mistake is leaving the house without a PFD. I fished in a bass boat for years and always left my PFD in the boat. Or if I didn’t leave it at the house I left it in the truck. Y’all I know Jeff and Paul will tell you don’t leave home or the ramp without your PFD. Keep those lines tight!
lifting my hobie fully loaded up on trailer on boat ramp and slipping down the ramp having kayak land on me. i would of back the trailer back but i have a honda crv and the boat ramp was to shallow to get the kayak on the trailer without putting the back end into the water.
What mistakes did we miss?!
Fading those sideburns into your hair cut 😂
@@aaanglers protection… Don’t leave home without it….protect your kayak from the elements using 303. 😎🤙

Heck yeah!!
Using the correct paddle size is something I learned the hard way
💯

Looking at the rigs you’re leaving behind lol. 100% relatable
You guys are so right with #2. I am so guilty of taking 100 lbs of stuff when I can get by with less than 5. Love Jeff's shirt by the way.
🙌

But don’t ask me how many lures I have in my tackle box, and what percentage of them I actually use 😬
I only regret not knowing that there was going to be a pedal version of my kayak 3 months after i bought mine. I would have waited until it was released, if the sales person had told me it was being released.
I felt attacked by the Crocs comment... taken a tumble or two before lol

Left retrieve for the win 😂
Fishing near the boat ramp for some reason gets me every time, I need to work on that.
We still do it 😂

That T-shirt is perfect for #2.
OMG I love love love your shirt Jeff!!! I gotta have that! That's so me, I bring soooooo much stuff with me when I bank fish, I can barely walk lol😂
It’s available in our shop!
Let’s go new aaa vid

Most kayaks have steering on the left. Luckily we have always used left retrieve reels. I can see that being a pain for right retrieve anglers

Would love to but haven’t yet
We will next year!
The day I showed up with my fully rigged SS127, this older gentleman with a Hobie looked and asked if I had room for anything else. Lol😊

They are sold out unfortunately. Doesn't look like Monsterbass intends on making anymore

We have Mariner sails here in Texas that do demo days,
Great shop
I felt attacked with the "too much shtuff" part. It just so happens I bought way more shtuff during this past holiday season. 😂
I do the same 😂
Hahaha
14.29 mins in… “I would dread pulling out” 😂
Bahaha
HAPPY HOLIDAYS YOU GUYS 🌲🌲🌲
Happy holidays!
I’m really bad over thinking my fishing trip and bringing more than I need.. only use not even 1/2 of what I bring including my rods 😂😂
Same
My biggest mistake is not tethering everything. Lost paddles, ketchboards rods etc.
Oof

Hard to argue against your top 5. With that being said…🤣🤣🤣

Yep, #1. Staying too long in one spot. Along with using the same lure in the same spot with no takers. 🤦♂️
Tether anything expensive!
i think both thumbs playing thumb wrestling
I have my yak loaded on my 01 Corolla lol😂

#2 I accept your apology
