The Great Escape is still a jam.
Um sir you are absolutely correct and also thunder and five minutes to midnight 🖤
@@project-toon the album is god level
Martin Johnson is underrated. Talent/singing/songwriting wise, he's on par with the top dogs of pop punk. Wrote some of the catchiest pop punk songs in their era. Their debut album still has a place in my heart. Literally every song there is a banger. No wonder he became a songwriter for pop stars.
Went to their 10 year self titled tour with a friend who was buying a guitar from Martin. It was one of Tom Delonge’s Gibson’s originally. He also brought my friend on stage to play guitar with them
How much did Martin sell that guitar to your friend? How did that happen? I’m a big Tom Delonge fan and want to know the story. Super jealous. Stoked for your friend though!
@@marchealey4893 oh I know it was over 3k. Me and this dude weren’t like best friends so he didn’t give me the exact details. Idk how Martin ended up getting it from Tom but he tracked my friend down like a year after and gave him the paperwork/certification of authenticity that it was one made for Tom originally. Honestly I think my buddy got ahold of Martin through Twitter or email in the first place I’m not sure of all of the details cause me going to the show was a super last minute thing
That's my dream man
My big brother was their guitar tech during warped tour and some other tours. Miss you so much Dan, RIP.
The clip of lead singer using a “FLIP” Hand held Camera hanging out is straight up liquid nostalgia
Boys Like Girls is back and their song “CRY” sounds like it came straight from their first album (near the end)
Your timing is amazing… I was feeling nostalgic yesterday and literally listened to their self titled first album and then found it today at a thrift store… and then you post this??? Okay universe… synchronicity!
Knocked it out of the park as usual Julian!
funny, one of the ebay stores i follow was selling cds buy two get one free and i actually picked the self titled album up last week. weird how the universe works.
When i was a kid i loved there music i still do there first album is the best i played that over and over again
5 minutes to midnight was my alarm clock 😂
I've been waiting for someone to cover this band for so long, their first record was so massive in my early teens and really defined a lot of my musical taste going forward, thank you cozy, looking forward to the complete series!
Oh my god! Finally someone who talks about this band! Their first record is amazing
Boys like girls was one of the first English CDs I ever purchased. I still love all their music 🩷🩷😊😊😊
And to think Martin and Paul went on to be massive producers
Yeah I think they are behind a ton of big songs
Went to their concert last Oct here in Philippines. So much nostalgia. Been listening to BLG since high school days during mid to late 2000's. Emo never dies! 🖤🤘
man you are absolutely crushing this new format my dude. also, i had a purple boys like girls hoodie that had boys like girls in gold foil down the arm when i was in high school, their self titled is such a good pop album and still deeply playable.
I LOVE the album Crazy World believe it or not
I knew I wasn’t the only one!!!
I vaguely remember Paul attending the same high school I did when I was a freshman. My friends/classmates would talk about him sometimes and I couldn't be bothered to care. Some girl helped tutor him (I think) to he could graduate early and leave to go on tour or whatever. For a handful of years when Christmas came around, he was always in the newspaper for traveling back here.
Yeah, I rediscovered them recently and Martin Johnson had graduated from the same high school as me! 😳😁
i remember finding them and cute is what we aim for around the same time - fall 2006 (the 5th grade was such a formative year for music for me lmao) so i always associated the 2 together, like listening to their albums on repeat. hero/heroine was the first song of theirs i heard, with the original music video, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. i was totally married to martin johnson and paul digiovanni on the sims.
Their music MADE my freshman year of high school. They were one of the first concerts I went to. That first album was so important to me. I wasn’t a fan of anything they did after, but man they were great. Super nice guys too, I met them after the show cause they were just hanging out outside the venue. I ran out on hello goodbye to meet them and basically just hung out with them with a few other fans. One of my favorite concert experiences
Ugh their 2 albums were amazing can still remember working my first part time job and buying those cds 😂😂🤣🤣 that 3rd thoooo... Was a mess ngl
Boys like girls is that band that has some memorable good songs and you play on your guitar and watch them live but will never be on your top most favourite band
Incorrect dog, they've been my favorite band since I found them in 2006 and that title has never been in jeopardy.
@@tagg580 woof woof mf.
@@tagg580agreed. The recording and vibe of the first record stays close to me even as my music taste changes. It’s one of my top fav albums til this day.
I was 4 when their self-titled album came out. The Great Escape is one of the first songs I can remember in my entire life. I adore their first album, I listen to it when I'm sad, when I'm happy, when I need to sleep - I basically play the CD at least once a day. It's obviously generic pop-punk nonsense about running away and boys liking girls but honestly I could not care less. There's just something electric about the album, or maybe I'm just really nostalgic for the childhood that I can't remember (besides the music I heard on the radio). Just went for their concert for the first time a week ago, basically waited my whole life for that moment, and they absolutely crushed it. They've gotten much better with age. Can't wait for the rest of your series!
I’m seeing them live next week. I’m a huge Martin Johnson fan. His new band The Night Game is FANTASTIC
The production quality of your vids is much better now (which it was totally fine before but its still very cool to see your videos improve over time)
People tend to forget, ignore or just flat have no idea about their CrazyWorld album because it was frankly more Country than Pop Punk, but i honestly think it had some great tunes on it, and it's a shame it never really went anywhere, and an even bigger shame that the Country music stuff got to guitarist Paul DiGiovanni's head, as he's now a big time Country music songwriter and didn't even reunite with the band earlier this year due to being too busy with the Country music stuff. Oh well, at least Martin & John are still in it.
Ooh cozy u tease! Cliffhanger ending haha … anyway, nice one man. Lookin forward to the sequel :)
I was feeling nostalgic today about music ( specifically Augustana) and I was like you know what I better go watch the Cozy Rep!
Please never stop,I love these sort of videos
I'll be going to their concert tomorrow, and I couldn't be more excited
Great video as always! The self-titled is a great record for me, yes it is on the cheesy side and it's very high-schoolish, but it has some of the catchiest pop-rock/punk songs ever, even songs like "Heels Over Head" or "5 Minutes to Midnight" which are deep cuts will be forever stuck in your mind after first listen. Martin Johnson was like 20 when he wrote these songs, no wonder that he became a songwriter for pop stars, like him or not the dude is an S-tier songwriter.
Also check The Night Game, different from BLG but great music!
A Thorn For Every Heart was great. Honestly, you should definitely know who they are
love the format and new audio you did for this dude. As always a dope video.
Went to the soundtrack of your summer tour and man I thought it was the highlight of my life at the time haha. It was a great show.
YES I HAVE heard of A thorn for every heart, I still love and miss them.
i will never apologize for the way love drunk makes me go insane every time i hear it. the "nanananana" fades in and suddenly i'm 12 again, in my ocean-themed bedroom with my shitty boom box at full volume, shouting at my ill-fated lover who had yet to exist
Me You and My Medication and Broken Man are on like every pop punk/emo playlist I have ever made. That first album was so dope.
Love this! Glad they are back now.
Did you ever like Sugarcult? I'd love you to do the Sugarcult story!
THEY ARE COMING OUT WITH A NEW ALBUM THIS YEAR DUDE. THEY ANNOUNCED IT AT WWWY 2022
Man, my favorite songs by them are the great escape and Love drunk.
Fake ID was the first show I ever went to in middle school. They had a song called Six Ways to Sunday that I’ve been looking for online for years. They had a cover of O-Town’s All or Nothing on Punk Goes Pop Vol. 1 if you want to hear them.
And they're coming back this fall!!!
i love them so much
they make me happy that i'm from MA myself
12:54 Actually they have a hidden EP that is call Heavy Heart, songs like "I Told You So" "If You Could See Me Now" "Free" ...
10:09 … boys like girls made musics for teenage girls, tween girls and Apparently me… hahaha dude I laugh so hard cause it was for me tooo! Haha I love what you do my friend! It brings me right back!
Can't wait until you get to Martin Johnson's new band The Night Game. It inspired my current band (Ethun Hawk.... debut single Crossfire on all platforms). Damn do I miss BLG. They worked with some friends of mine in the industry.
Not gonna lie, I am definitely a Boys Like Girls stan. I still have my Warped Tour '07 poster (it was my first Warped Tour). I went to the Soundtrack of your Summer tour, too.
I can listen through that debut album start-to-finish without skipping a track, and each one struck my little emo heart. One of the most memorable albums of that era for me.
Crazy World honestly is a guilty pleasure of mine and I listen to it the whole way through too, even the county tracks (especially Shoot). I listen to it more than Love Drunk honestly, and there are a few tracks I will legit defend. The First Time is one of my all-time favorite Boys Like Girls tracks. Stuck in the Middle and Hey You are also super memorable.
I even really enjoy the new album. The Outside and Language are both ABSOLUTE bangers. All this is coming from a guy who also listens to prog metal. 😂
Really wish we could get vinyl pressings of the middle albums, too. Got the first one on my shelf and the new one on preorder.
Please do we the kings aswell... Arttm... Finally thank you for this though
This fleur-de-lis background got me feeling like I’m watching this in my maw maw’s bathroom haha great video though!
That’s so specific lol, Louisiana Maw Maw?
yep, middle school me had that first album on repeat, still have the love drunk album XD
they have such good songs
I gotta say that the album is a solid, 10/10
Cmon man
Matt Squire had his hands in so many albums from this time, didn't he also do The Maine's debut if I remember correctly?
Omg I haven't thought about a thorn for every heart in YEARS!
BLG is the greatest band of all time, and thunder is singlehandedly and irrefutably the best song ever as well. great video as always cozy!
Really though? Greatest band of all time.. yikes.
@@waterboy555 no cap, and also deadass
@@nightshade038 really? Really? Really? Are you for real?
Boys like girls is the greatest band of all time.?
@@waterboy555 obviously, he meant it for him...
I feel offended that you never heard a thorn for every heart. they were kinda well known in the post-hardcore/emo
scene back in mid 2000s. I believe they're making music again with half of the original members. you should give them a listen
sameee! I was shocked they didn’t know them ;~;
The snarc on this video is palpable. Appreciate the spicy tone.
I just realized that your not on camera in these last 2 vids. I miss your face my brother
exactly what i was going to say i loved how it was just him most of the time it was a good vibe but the audio quality does seem better now
They were on a tour here in the Philippines a week ago but sadly, I wasn't able to see them. I wish I had the money😆
great video dude!!
Wow Im from MA too man Love your content and love the 2000s emo scene saved my life. Lets talk I live in the south shore area!
I never got to see tthem. SEVERELY underrated band.
The last great american rock band part has me fucking dying.
I wish cozy would make a video on Early Owl City.
I like his solo band the night game.
Ngl, the 1st time I heard of Boys Like Girls was through my 7th grade English class. It was like a grammar assignment, and on the assignment it had other well known artists at the time; except for Boys Like Girls. I remember when I 1st heard that name I thought it was a song, but then what's my teacher explained to me that it was an artist I thought that was a weird name for a band.
This was around 2016-2017-ish, so I don't think any of their songs were on the radio, so I'm pretty sure that nobody in my class knew who they were.
I hit Hiighschool in 2010 and feel like I JUST barely missed out on this era of music. But I did get into BLG
Would love to see you cover Metro Station at some point!
i was quite literally 1 years old in '07
I was a senior in high school when BLG broke huge, I was around a year away from hitting my lamentable college hipster era and they were probably one of the last pop-emo bands I got into as a teenager. To this day The Great Escape will cause me to instantly fail any “try not to sing” challenge.
I loved Me, You, and My Medication and Heels Over Head were my favorites. Your opinions of the album are literally my exact thoughts 😂 As a fellow Masshole I has no idea they were from here lol
great escape demo is so good
Oh lawd here we gooooo!!
Great escape is still a good song. Never really listened to anything else. I was getting into heavier stuff during that time but the great escape couldn’t be ignored.
a thorn for every heart was fucking dope.. very very emo and deep, damn i havent heard them in so long
Pregame vid before my shift
I fucking love all 3 albums. No joke
Yo) btw back in the days i liked to listen not well know "college" bands and i found accidentally Fake ID, i still have it on a hard drive somewhere.
I found The Great Escape when I was 10 and it was my girst introduction to music outside of disney channel due to my super strict religious family, a lot of their music may sound cheesy and ridiculous but without them I would have never found emo and pop punk
Cozy give us the Armor for Sleep story
i wonder how you would feel about a divided by friday story video i would be curious about that
Always been my favorite band, i just watched them performed here in the Phillpines Manila and man had lots of goosebumps
Never met a dude who liked this band. I was obsessed growing up lol
I checked the other day and Taylor swift has only featured in a handful of other artists songs and boys like girls are the smallest aritsts to get a feature from her
commentary was next level on this one
Next "story of" suggestions;
Playradioplay
The academy is
The secret handshake
Bayside
And it would be cool to do something for scene one hit wonders like love me dead by ludo ect
I’m pretty sure one the members is from my neighborhood in north Leominster MA
Bro, you havnt heard of A Thorn for Every Heart? Im honestly shocked. Figured you would've definitely come across them in your years. Could be a little before your time though.
love drunk was kinda lit doe
Aye glad to hear you’re from Mass ya masshole haha jk Sending love from CT! Northeast for the win
I was so obsessed with their first album back in high school ❤❤❤
I can’t wait to watch this. BLG started it all. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Early gang \m/\m/
You should do Metro Station next. I still hate that their whole album got re-recorded and all the versions I know are different on iTunes 😂 They also had some controversies if I remember correctly; some underage allegations lol
Self titled guitar tone is still insane. If anyone knows their signal chain hmu
Pretty sure they were rockin Jcm 800’s before later getting an Engl endorsement
They recorded that album with Matt Squier who was all about Marshall JCMs and Orange AD30s if I’m not mistaken.
Last Great Rock Band??? WHAT! lol. What about Vampire Weekend? They had great years starting 2010
oh my
That is a funny title for this band.
Crazy World had some bangers.
I know I may be in the minority when I say that.
Honestly agreed. It is kinda funny how working with Taylor Swift seemed to rub off on them.
Yeah the main problem with boys like girls is the first cd the only good songs are great escape, thunder, and hero/heroine, and the only good song on love drunk... was... love drunk. However all 4 of those songs were SO good that it makes it seem like they should be so much better. Also so funny to see ads for mapquest on here. Haha
Many are beg to differ about the first CD. The first CD is the best you can get from a debut album. Literally no trash track imo.
I'm fully convinced Love Story by Taylor Swift is inspired by the lead singer
