HK buried his scandals, no matter what Jackie did he will never be cancelled. He exploited his nanny, his connections with the underworld, illegitimate child, all his scandals are all buried. You skipped over the part of his life where his parents took him back to China to be raised in the Chinese Opera Academy. He grew up under some of the most harshly disciplined Chinese rule. He did not have the freedoms of most raised in Hong Kong, so it makes sense he doesn't sympathize as much as people would expect.

When Jackie Chan was growing up in China Hong Kong was under British colonial rule and the people were heavily repressed. There were no freedoms for people growing up in Hong Kong in those days. The protesters don't know how much better they have it now that Hong Kong is reunified because they're all under thirty and didn't live through that era.

Fun Fact: Jackie has made more money as a music recording artist than a movie star. People seem to forget about one VERY important fact: Jackie Chan is the last person on earth you should ask about political agendas! Remember, he spend his entire childhood in the Peking Opera where he was trained in Martial Arts. There has no education provided to him, he couldn't even read after leaving the school. In his biography he even says that to this day he is struggling with writing autographs for fans. Everything he learned in live came from the film industry, he was never taught on any political subject. So when mainland China opened his hands and welcomed him after 1998 to support his movie making, it seems natural to me that he is not interested in Communism or Democracy, as long as he can continue to do what he does best. He is no traitor to anyone, he is just saying stuff that from his point of view isn't even a political statement - he's just never grown up to be able to give political statements.

Amongst the big HK stars who didn't finish high school or go to college, Bruce Lee, Chow Yun Fat, Stephen Chow, and Tony Leung, Jet Li(mainland), and Donnie Yen, only Jackie Chan is dumb enough to opine on politics the way he does. Every time he speaks on politics, the dumber he looks and the more he exposes himself. One one-side vague statement after another without ever substantiating or elaborating on the points he tries to make. What's wrong with it if you ask? If it weren't for HK he wouldn't have become an international superstar, not in the US in the 70s, 80's or 90s as an Asian or Asian American, yet as soon as the CCP comes calling he turns around and bites the hands that fed him. He can be pro-CCP for all I care but he lacks the awareness to remain silent on these issues.
That's in addition to him being a serial womanizer for decades and one who even admitted to driving drunk multiple times from partying. The hypocrisy of his decision to cut his son off of his wealth is a testament to Jackie Chan's low IQ.

3 days ago, Hong Kong actor comedian Richard Ng Man-tat (Wu Mengda) succumbed to liver cancer and passed away. This is sad. The last blog he posted on Weibo is saying that "I am a Chinese" together with a picture of China's national flag. This drew him a lot of hate remarks from anti-China haters, scorning him even in his death.
Ng man-tat's patriotic stance shows that not only Jackie Chan identifies as Chinese, loves his country and is proud of China. Others like Donnie Yen, Andy Lau, Stephen Chow and Louis Koo are all patriotic Hong Kong actors/directors.

The main reason for Hong Kong's success was not democracy, (they never had real democracy under the British) but because China was incredibly poor and Hong Kong was the world's access portal to China. Now Shenzhen, Shanghai and other big Chinese cities have risen in prominence and superseded Hong Kong's role as the financial center of Asia. That was inevitable, theres only so much wealth in the world and now its more evenly distributed across China and Asia in general which means Hong Kong took the biggest hit since they had the most to lose. Hong Kong's financial woes and job market are being blamed on China by the Hong Kong youth but it was destined to happen as soon as China opened up its economy to the world even if Hong Kong remained in British hands. Yes, Hong Kongers are wary of communism and the CCP's tight grip on its citizens but look at Macau. Their economy is fine and you don't hear a peep from them, theres no doubt in my mind that Hong Kong's economy is the main driving force behind this youth revolution. Its unfortunate how things turned out but I think that the youth of Hong Kong would have been better off trying to join the Mainland job market and even considering moving to China in search of better opportunities rather than restricting themselves by choice to only working and living in Hong Kong. Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing are all world class cities that are on par with Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore and Seoul. But I get it, Chinese Mainlanders can be some real assholes and come off as obtuse and crude. Theres no easy solution and its truly regretful how Hong Kong's younger generation has to come to terms with what is essentially an unwinnable battle.

As the great political philosopher himself put it, in order to be a good and effective political leader, one needs to learn how not to be good(against dissenters who desires to take power away from the leader and keep it for themselves).
You can make a list of negative stuffs about a regime, just as others like me can make a similar list with positive stuffs. For much of the Chinese population living today, they are more affected by the positive stuffs than the negative, which explains the higher approval ratings of the Chinese government in polls conducted not just by Chinese institutions, but neutral foreign ones as well. And when compared with other countries, China is doing better, which explains why hundreds of millions of tourists travel to foreign countries every year and more than 99.9% of them return to China. If China is really as horrible as you want me to believe she is, why would they choose to return? And wouldn't they not be permit to travel abroad or lack the financial means to do so in the first place? China is better than other countries is also evident by the fact that the younger generation of Chinese under 30 years of age becomes more patriotic and more confident of their country whenever they travel abroad as they can compare for themselves having personally been in both places. Additionally, Chan's son was arrested in mainland China and put in a Chinese jail. Besides, whats the point anyway? The so called western liberals are hand in gloves with the ideas of the CPA and dare you protest for any national sovereignity, you are according to the political left ( eg: Democrat party of USA) a right wing fascist terrorist.

Jackie probably changed his views about Honk Kong when he left it and saw the world and all that it has to offer. His life of fame, recognition and success is something that he may not be willing to sacrifice for a place to which maybe he is not so attached anymore. As an actor he may compare the pros and cons of being pro China against being por Hong Kong, and in economic and freedom terms, the choice is obvious. Unfortunately for Hong Kong, he is not the 'hero' that they expected. That's only in the movies. Real life is a different thing.

Whatever argument you make right here - just remember, people will be studying the thoughts and contemplations of Bruce Lee for years to come and nobody ever cared what Jackie Chan actually thought about anything, and Bruce was treated like a heretic by traditionalists but has done more to spread actual works of persistent enlightenment concepts and methods to achieve such goals in modern times than any other actor I can think of, at any time.
Bruce was privileged and maybe even gifted in some senses, but he also worked tirelessly and continually looked outward to understand the inward and integrate what is working, using that to move himself forward as opposed to the many other ways one could but in doing so adding nothing or actually removing value from the world.
If you are not focused solely on what you are doing, then you are already a follower and not a leader. The example is that Jackie gave people what they wanted and Bruce gave people what they need. One of those things will always persist as valued knowledge by future generations and honestly nobody cares what Jackie Chan already thinks - and you find out when the pressures come just who and who is not really on the side of humanity, instead choosing whatever the fuck they thought was better than humanity.

That would be because of directors not being exactly good at what they're doing. Also because they are pressured to make a bigger return in less time, a good movie while cutting down on shooting time bc shooting is expensive. The movies are good, not great. And this is the crux of most hollywood movies. This video : ua-cam.com/video/Z1PCtIaM_GQ/v-deo.html&ab_channel=EveryFrameaPainting shows how Jackie Chan was able to do really good action scenes while also making it memorable and exciting, keeping the audience entertained bc you don't know what's going to happen next in a fight. Another video : ua-cam.com/video/ybYsElQD2o4/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TheCloserLook
The 2nd video and the 1st video hammer in a point, keep the fights engaging but most importantly, organic. You can tell a person he kept shooting bad guys in x scene but what Chan was able to do, bc he was given the time & budget, was to make the fights feel organic. An example is: during the fight, x was pushed into some construction equipment, where x picked up a shovel and used it like ...
If you make the fight organic, the scene will be more engaging because not only was we becoming more and more impatient, and more wondering. If a fight scene doesn't engage us for long, our eyes & mind will wander elsewhere. In hollywood movies there is kind of a paradox, you will pay attention to a dialogue scene bc it might be important to the plot, giving important information about the current situation and how the protagonist is going to deal with it. Writers spend countless hours pouring over a script, making sure it entertaining and engaging BUT not enough attention (imo) is given to the action sequences in a film. Because if the actor is just punching someone, in the script, we will just see it as a punch from x to y, but if there good acting on the actors part, it will result in a better scene! Take for instance: as x punched y, y doubled over and started puking out his breakfast, as opposed to as x punched y, y slightly doubled over as he winced in pain. They both covey a punch to the gut but 1 is more engaging & impactful, while the other just coveys it. A video on the Making Of Full Metal Jacket (here: ua-cam.com/video/XRkyKYz5SYM/v-deo.html) conveys it splendidly, at 15:40 basically encompasses everything im trying to say.
TL DR: Hollywood editors and directors are shit in creating an engaging organic fight scene. They make unnecessary cuts in a scene while not understanding what makes a good fight scene good. A fight scene can be cut and still look ok but it will be great if we can see everything because we will see the hit, the process of the hit landing and the end result. Not about to hit, cut, action of hit.
Ps: look at ANY fight video thats on the internet! If you dont see the hit landing followed by their immediate reaction, would it feel the same? I also know that I'm conveying my point somewhat poorly so take my words with a grain of salt

When I was a little kid Jackie Chan was someone I greatly admired alongside Bruce Lee (especially) as well as Jet Li, and even Donnie Yen once I learned who he was. I don't hate the man, but I do fault him for some of his transgressions. I used to see Jackie's communist support as being born more out of not wanting to pay the price for bravery and encouragement of freedom, but I can't say that I believe that anymore now knowing that his original stance was so different.
Of all the things that caused me to lose respect for him however has more to do with the treatment of his illegitimate daughter from an affair he apparently had as a younger man. He is well aware he has a daughter and who she is, but he refuses to acknowledge her existence and does nothing to support her.
I've also heard that the daughter's mother takes out her bitterness on said child, and it's just so sad to hear, assuming this is true of course. One of the things I've always admired about Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and other martial arts legends of film has always been their overall integrity and strength of character, which I view as being just as important and interesting as the martial artists' physical skills themselves, if not more so.
I used to see Jackie Chan as a warm-hearted and kindly man, but how kind can a man be when he won't even see his own child, especially if he knows that she suffers? I've never seen chosen idols or personal heroes as infallible, but in Jackie's case I must admit there was a time when I held my expectations too high as it turns out. They say never meet your heroes, but I say don't expect them to always be 100% heroic either.

Jackie Chan has a history of being kidnapped when he was starting his career. I am pretty sure this was the doing of the CCP. It's not just about the money, I would think if he do not support the CCP, something bad will happen not just to him, but to his family as well.
People should know this. This is the tactic of the CCP.

What i view regarding the stance in HK is that the police officers do a self defence mechanisms against the protestors which is protected under the clause "section 36 of the offences against person ordinance", "section 17 and 19 of the offences against the persons ordinance" and also "section 40 of the offences against the persons ordinance". These violent protestors broke the law and yet most of them are still largely hold not accountable for their actions. If Jackie Chan is anything, he is first and foremost, a patriot who loves his nation. If he genuinely believes that the CPC is a positive force for good in China, then he is right to believe so, for the CPC is indeed a boon for China, proven by the fact that under its leadership, more than 800 million Chinese have been lifted out of poverty in the last 40 years, and as of last year, poverty has been eradicated in the country. That is on top of the fact that the CPC industrialized the most populous country in the world, a backwards nation when it assumed leadership in 1949, turning China into a modern prosperous superpower that can rival the USA technologically. Who in the 1950s to 80s would dare imagined that China would one day achieve a level of technological advancement such as 5G as to make the USA declare a state of emergency over it? Or that China could compete with the USA in space exploration with the first soft landing on the far side of the moon, the first unmanned collection and retrieval of lunar soil, or the first Martial rover with lander mission?

I even was over the moon when I met him in person and got his autograph when he was the guest of honor at a movie theater in NYC that showed one of his movies (I forget if it was Supercop or Rumble in the Bronx) back in the early 90's. Can the CCP make Hong Kong great again?
Hong Kong has had one of its economic miracles being one of the 4 Asian little dragons.
China CCP had performed possibly, the BIGGEST economic miracle in human history to have lifted over 600 million people from poverty and transformed its economy to become the second largest in the world in less than 40 years.
Logically, there is STRONG evidence and reason to believe that China working with Hong Kong will and can deliver GREAT results for Hong Kong and make Hong Kong great again.
However, unfortunately, there are many, especially young people in Hong Kong do NOT want China's involvement in Hong Kong even to the extent that they promoted their idea of rather having Hong Kong die economically than to work with China. That's called “Naam Chau”, meaning die together.
      Why?
Some Hong Kong people blame Mainland Chinese for EVERYTHING.
Those Hong Kong people, from before 1997 and a few years after 1997, felt they were SUPERIOR to Mainland Chinese due to the earlier economic development of Hong Kong than Mainland China. They felt Mainland Chinese were their poor and silly relatives across the border and didn't think highly of them.
Hong Kong, from 1997 to 2003, suffered one of the MOST serious economic depressions in its 150 years history due to the broke out of the Asian Economic Crisis in 1997. Housing prices dropped over 70% and stock market dropped to historical lows. During that same time, China was developing VERY quickly and MANY Mainland Chinese started to get rich and VERY rich.
SARS hit Hong Kong during early 2003 and further devastated the Hong Kong economy and the livelihoods of Hong Kong people. After SARS, in order to help revive Hong Kong economy, the Central government in Beijing approved Chinese tourists visiting Hong Kong with a much simplified visa, causing millions of Mainlanders to visit Hong Kong and to shop at LOWER prices in Hong Kong as there was ZERO tax and duties in Hong Kong as free trade port. Hong Kong's economy in a very short time was REVIVED with the new found spending powers of millions of Mainland Chinese going to Hong Kong every month. The downside of this incoming Chinese tourists was that MANY Hong Kong people who used to despise and look down on Mainland Chinese, had to face the reality that SOME are MUCH richer and smarter than them.
As usual, when economies did well, prices went up. Prices of Housing, stock market, products of daily use ALL went up and went up SIGNIFICANTLY. More and more smart and hardworking Mainland Chinese studied in Hong Kong or overseas were getting better jobs in Hong Kong and with better pays than Hong Kong people due to their higher caliber. Hong Kong people were LOSING OUT BIG TIME and were forced to face the reality that they were WORSE OFF, at least to those Mainland Chinese who could afford to visit and work in Hong Kong. That caused unrepairable damages to MANY who felt any superiority over Mainland Chinese.
Many Hong Kong people, especially those young ones, had witnessed the improving economy but that only benefited the richer and smarter ones and they themselves suffered DECLINING standards of living. The anger and resentment grew BIGGER as Hong Kong depended on Mainland China more and more and MANY Hong Kong young people were just NOT competitive enough in the freest and most capitalistic city in the world.
Therefore, some Hong Kong “scholars” and opinion leaders over the years INVENTED a story for the youngsters that in Hong Kong things WERE much better during British colonial rule than after returned to China in 1997. Resentment, angers, frustrations, ignorance GREATLY built up among Hong Kong young people and they wanted to overthrow the Hong Kong government and reduced the influence of Chinese central government on Hong Kong. They wanted to make DRASTIC CHANGES to Hong Kong to “improve” Hong Kong in the names of freedom, human rights and democracy. As a matter of fact, most youngsters who believed this “story” were born AFTER 1997 and had NEVER lived a single day during British colonial rule.
Some, especially young people, in Hong Kong believed the story that things WERE much better before 1997 and China was responsible for making their lives difficult. Therefore, they viewed UK and USA as their HELP and SAVIOR to hope to seek assistance and support from them to overthrow Hong Kong and Chinese governments for their “DREAMLAND” to occur in Hong Kong under WESTERN influence and control.
In conclusion, it is VERY UNLIKELY Hong Kong will be great again having declining quality of people, especially young ones, and resisting the support and cooperation from China, the MOST dynamic economic powerhouse of the world.

From Hong Kong's view: He made his fame and fortune from democracy in HK and is now anti-democracy therefore he's a traitor
From his view (putting myself in his shoes): He grew up in HK oppressed by British colonisers, was trained by the Chinese opera school where there were strict rules. In spite of this, he succeeded without the need for 'freedom'. In addition he was probably fed up with pro-democratic protests from destroying his beloved city/country and he could make big $$ supporting the CCP. So why not?
