"Strapped to the media, a machine to fear".. Those words couldn't ring more true today than any other time in human history.. Lyrics and song way ahead of it's time..
Saga - One of the first Canadian rock bands I grew up listening to, along with Aldo Nova, Bryan Adams and Honeymoon Suite, etc. Saga has a sound that is timeless. Still sounds as good today as back then.
Ähm, ich wunder mich. Saga und Scratching the Surface ist eines meines besten Lieder meiner Jugend. Ich wunder mich, dass bei dem Lied hier so wenig los ist. ja. Der Holger
I wish I could have seen them in the 80’s, but unfortunately I was born in the early 00’s. I’m glad this stuff is available on UA-cam, so I can somewhat experience seeing my favorite band perform!
Saw them live in Budapest in 82 or 3 and at Maple Leaf Garden,Toronto,a year or 2 later, the best concert experience ever.No Rush or Pink Floyd could ever come close to their first 2 albums.
In those days SAGA was without any competiton my most Fav Band, after "The Human Condition" their creativ e wells were dried out, very thankfull for the Great songs from that Period, Jim Gilmour did some more splendid Songs no to forget his duo vocals with Michael...
Takes me back when I was 16. Ian influenced my playing. I had a Floyd Rose tremelo installed on my guitar....because Ian used one on the entire record The vocals and synthesizer sounds were epic
One of their top two or three most awesome tracks ! Jim Gilmour ( one of the most under-rated synth guys on the planet, and super chill guy) killed the vocal on this, its sort of operatic. Wish he did more of the singing, but alas only a couple of lead vocals over the years. Even 40 years later he still has the lungs to hit those high note...and He does a quasi-unplugged version occasionally with gorgeous keyboard self-accompaniement. Check out this one from 2018 in Vancouver where he was touring with the band "Toronto": ua-cam.com/video/TrZYFYBD6iU/v-deo.html
Jim Ironically was the lead singer in his pre-Saga band... Can't quite remember if he or Mike was in Saga first cuz I do think Jim may have been Saga's first lead singer also.
@@ryanjacobson2508 Jim Gilmour joined for Saga's third album. Michael was a founding member. To the general point, Jim has been doing a lot of lead vocals on their later albums (Press 9, It Doesn't Matter Who You Are), but fan opinions on those are rather divided.
Seems this single edit has an added bass drum, compared to the album version (and left-out parts). This is taken from the German music show 'Flashlights', I think. 'Only' 30 years ago ;)
Earrings for earnings.... Yet one more jewel of the golden era of Saga, but admit, in retrospect: those earrings look completely ridiculous ! But then again, that was the period that even the members of Rush seemed inspired by Duran Duran when it came to looks.... What people not all do for some extra earnings...
I'm curious of that too, I lived in Germany back then and watched everything but must've missed this cool performance I don't remember ever seeing this before.
why comment if you have nothing nice to say?? Saga is awesome.....YEAH .. THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN AROUND FOR 40 YRS.. SO I'M sure they care what you think.
i can't really explain here why I love this song.. but this band is my favorite of all time!

My favorite Band from the 80's.......Saga forever!!
One of many great Saga tracks
One of the most beautiful songs ever written
they're amazing. One of my all time favourite Canadian bands.
One of the world best bands 🤩😍
Scratching The Surface Is A Great Song By Saga. Saga Are Musical Genius's And Legends In Music History.

Love this song. And, these guys are pretty easy on the eyes. 🙂
Wow!!! Years since I've played this 🍁🇨🇦🍁

I agree! And like you, I was born in the early 00s (2002). We'll make sure Saga sticks around! 😉🙏🇨🇦
Build a mental time machine, and live it up like it's 1987. ;) I was born in the early 80's and didn't find out about Saga until 2010-ish.
My favorite Canadian band from Oakville, Ontario. Canada!

This song gives me chills! I love it.
What an absolute doll he was. Beautiful facial features. He's got wonderful eyes 👀 and a risque mouth 💋
Thanks for sharing - a stunningly great band!

Top of all new-wave....Amazing Band.
Great lead vocals
tremendous song this... great LP....
Vielen Dank Fritz 🤟

Feckin eh Bud ! Classic tune!
Gran bella canzone e video comico: Sadler che scimmiotta Gilmour scrollando la testa e fa ridere Crichton, non ha prezzo 🤣🤣🤣
Especially loved outside Canada...
this is the frequency, wont talk about the notes. Bless you all. it is like a kind of Saga hepiness.
Me encanta
and I can't believe I met these guys...

@@MiguelitoGonzalezR - ... and lost some its best bits in the process! 😆
go see the SAGA 4.0 TOUR BEFORE IT'S GONE!!!!
I`ve been to the show in Uden (The Netherlands) the show was excellent; much classic songs e.g. don`t Be Late, Not alone, Humble Stance.
I DROVE TO CANADA!
And here I thought Michael Sadler did the vocals for this song all along.
It was Jim Gilmour's second lead vocal for the band.
I thought so as well, but after listening to "Don't be late!", he also does the verse with Michael Adler, I thought, that's the voice of this song.
The Very Best Version...
Love itå
Which TV show was this from? David Letterman?
Song was cut in half.
I rather not come up for air
What a crime to cut out that guitar solo!
Not apparent lip-syncing, that was actual lip-syncing. And the keyboards were all rented for the taping - not thier usual gear in that period.
Earrings for earnings....

Where is the guitar solo? Erased?
The single edit lacks it :(
Does anyone know what variety or talk show this clip is taken from ???
I'm curious of that too, I lived in Germany back then and watched everything but must've missed this cool performance I don't remember ever seeing this before.
Where did you get this?
co dodat? super
Is that Jim Gilmore?
I wonder who this is about.
Excellent sound--too bad they didn't play the whole song. They actually left out the best part :/
This would have been nice without the overdubbed drums....I don't know why somebody would do that!!
God, I hate those 7" and radio edits! The full version is an amazing track, this is just castrated rubbish.
It's not a pure edit. Disappointing. But close.
Hmm I dont know, I think I call lip sync.
I'm going to see this band tonight - god they're terrible
WHAT KINDA DUMB COMMENT IS THAT?
they're great instrumentalists, no doubt. But their songs are terrible
So you are going to see them? Because they are terrible?
why comment if you have nothing nice to say?? Saga is awesome.....YEAH .. THEY HAVE ONLY BEEN AROUND FOR 40 YRS.. SO I'M sure they care what you think.
I had free tickets. Never seen a band with 3 keyboard players before. That was ridiculous
The Chorus is dope, the rest of the song is mediocre
Just like your taste in music
