Congrats on passing your prescreenings! When you do your NEC audition, don't freak out if you see a huge camera pointing at you and a microphone on the stand, Toby Oft likes to record the auditions.
Thanks man! NEC is next weekend, ahhh, lol yeah and I've heard about how the NEC audition can be sorta intimidating with the camera and small room. What auditions are you taking?
Cole Davis I'm just doing NEC and Eastman, but I should have sent out more tapes to more schools. I'm also doing some in state schools, but that's pretty much it.
Hey Cole, I just saw this thru some browsing, man you sound very good. If I had a good instructor to help me with my embachure problem I may have done better when I went to college in 1976. It could have been my tooth structure or something but even the college or university instructor was at a loss (sigh) just wasn't meant to be I guess.
This is late, but what did you use to record/edit the video and audio? I have some recorded auditions coming up and am unsure of the best way to do it.
Why rejected? You have a lovely sound, very alive. Bone suggestion: keep your good air flow STEADY. Do not adjust for partials, but release steady, straight ahead gentle air flow. New England is better young lad. Seek out Mr Bolter!
Cole Davis hey, you know what? believe me, even though i'm just some random guy on the internet that you're probably never encountered in your life, i can definitely tell you that you did your best with your audition, regardless of any mistakes. i know that Juilliard is incredibly selective, possibly making you judge yourself on your ability, but coming from a trombonist and clarinetist, you did absolutely amazing. and you had the confidence to try out for Juilliard! Of all schools! That shows that you are confident in your ability, and they're going to regret taking in that one player the judges loved. You can't live in regret that you didn't take any steps to achieve your dreams, and you did exactly that. Great job, keep working and maybe audition again?
This audition was not good enough for a major conservatory. Plain and simple. If you listen closely to the 3-part masterclass that Charlie Vernon did at Northwestern University in 2008, every issue that this guy has is addressed. I'm not saying that he is without hope, but he has basic issues that will prevent him from really improving unless they are seriously addressed.
@@tromboneman4517 he did? the masterclass is here on youtube. clarity and solidness of pitch and tone aren't as stellar as they need to be for a major conservatory. remember, sounding great isn't enough. everyone else sounds great too
I have a feeling Julliard will be sorry they rejected this player

alright, sounds good, have you done your Eastman yet?
Cole Davis Yes I did! It was actually on the same weekend as the NEC one, so it was back to back, and the auditions went ok.
This was amazing. Good luck with your actually audition at Juilliard!
Thanks man, I gonna need it for sure, haha
EXCELLENT. I'm a baritone and was able to go right with you on the Tuba mirum. bravo!
