I put my knives in a drawer and threw out the big wooden block. Just as easy and less to dust. I put away my toaster but I need to put a pan under it now to catch crumbs. Always tweaking the process. Great videos! 😊
I did the same with knives. There are wooden knife holders for drawers which work well.
Thank you!!
Taryn, you have gently described so much-needed comments that helped me almost gently yell at my house of men who think the counters are additions to their offices, extra food supplies and new parts of eye, ear, paper, medicine, and giant food bags filled with ice holders. I used to cook daily, but have no urge to undo the counter, put what from the sink they think are where to put dirty dishes that should go into the dishwasher which is one second away, and by the time I start cooking, I am already tired, age 72 surviving a huge stroke, lymphodema, blood clots and no one helps unless I call through their cellphones. Welcome to Thanksgiving, dear Taryn and your well stated comments calm me each time you list a new well said explanation!
Over the years, I've cooked and entertained a lot. Family meals, again, at home, from scratch. Well, I'm in my late 70's, rarely entertain, but still cook😊. I stored large appliances, entertaining items in our basement and on shelves in the pantry. Now, I'm sorting, decluttering. Life has changed for me, things are going, offered to family who now have taken the entertaining lead. I'm happy to part with things, donate what isn't wanted.
Wonderful comment! Thank you, it helped me
Great idea.
“Valuable real estate” is the number one thing I think of now when I look at my little kitchen. Thank you for that phrase.
You are so welcome!
Thank you--so glad you posted-- Got me Up and reorganizing my pots and pans--- back to it right now---Thank You !!!!!
Love it! You are so welcome! 🥰
It is so hard to keep the kitchen free of clutter. As you said, dishes sort of magically appear. We moved into my grandma’s old apartment and sort of kept all of her kitchen items. I got lots of stuff passed down from my parents and my other grandma. I never bought a single dish nor any piece of cutlery. 😂 I definitely need to get rid of some things. Thank you so much for the inspiration. 🥰🙏🏻
Too funny - you sound like me! I haven't bought cutlery either, ha! 😀❤
Great video, Taryn! I took a full weekend last summer to declutter the kitchen. I also went through one cabinet at a time to minimize the chaos.
I'm Italian and I make pizzelles for every holiday and I can't do it without a pizzelle maker they won't be pizzeles in a waffle iron... I understand what you're trying to say and I live as a minimalist and I agree with you but pizzelle iron is an exception 😊❤️❤️❤️
We all have single use machines that we use and love - mine is a yoghurt maker. G Ire
I know what you mean ☺And yum! ❤
Another great video. I love your videos, because not only are they very good advice, but quick, and straight to the point. I’m not a clutter kind to person, but I’m not happy with the stuff on my counter. There’s a much needed tissue box, a wooden lazy suzan with some every day meds for my son, who has memory issues, so its easy for him, a toaster which gets used every day, my Bunn coffee maker, ( which I love,) and gets used every day, and a small k cup coffee maker, which only gets used occasionally. Anyway, you get what I’m saying. Snd I really don’t have a lot if cupboards, but I think if I clean some of them out, which I have in the past, I could cut down. Thanks, Taryn.🤗
Would you please recommend a good Bunn coffeemaker
Love it, you are so welcome!
Sunny and cloudy lights were beautiful in fact :) All your points are so valid and lot of are guilty of all those most of the times..
In your earlier videos I actually was worried about your slightly bent dish rack shelf :) Good to hear that you have decluttered the heavy stuff ..
Thank you so much!! ☺♥
Another informative,helpful video Taryn!!🥰
Thank you, Ann! ❤
I was thinking of buying another muffin tin, but realized that I could use the little silicone cups and just put them on a tray when needing additional while baking. I works great! I do line the silicone molds with cupcake papers just like when I use the muffin tin
I'm in the same spot. Good idea. I'm not going to make muffins that often.
Thanks Taryn, you’re spot on! My countertop is the bane of my existence! Too much stuff 😫It’s definitely on my hit list for this month 😅
So true about gadgets, oh my goodness! Time for a cull for sure.
ty Taryn Bringing more pots -downstairs shelves, every 2 weeks get rid of 1 or 2 items, kids do Not want them-now the hard part lol cleaning out the bathrooms 2drawers- been holding it off
Since I declutterred my kitchen worktops it's been easier to keep on top off, although I'm looking at putting a shelf up to get rid of a few more things that are on my counter but I use them daily or several times a day.
Enjoy your weekend ✌🏽❤️
Great video. I rent a townhouse and kitchen soooo small. Wish had enough counters to keep clutter free. Am gettinh rid of unused gadgets.😊❤
My husband and I are 2 people. I got rid of most of my dishes. and that gave me room to store things we use a lot, like a toaster. That was how I kept the clutter on the counters at bay.
For sure. I have an opened concept and minimal on the countertop is a must. I only have 3 appliances on it. One counter has the toaster, the other counter has two coffee makers. Keurig and nespresso. I need both 😳
👀 is there a story behind why you need to? I'm so curious! 😂
@ 😂 I wish it was an interesting one! But nope🤣 i love coffee, thus the nespresso machine, I also love chai tea at night and hot chocolate around Christmas time, thus the Keurig. I use both everyday ☕️ 😄
@@coastaldiva I love that! You know yourself and have your kitchen set up for what you need! 💕
Thank you! I have a galley kitchen, so it's always "ship-shape" because no one but me hangs out there. LOL.
Love it! ☺
I put strong magnetic strips on the inside of two upper cabinet doors to hold all my knives. No more knife blocks or knives in drawers.
Giving dishes away when you take treats somewhere is a great idea.
Thank you!
put stuff in boxes take boxes to reclycle and enjoy your empty spaces ,,,
I have the air fryer on the counter because it's used multiple times a day. I have a tray with oils and salt and pepper on it. Then there's a silicone mat for a drainboard. That's it on the counters. The knives are out but on a magnetic bar on the wall.
It's crazy how the kitchen seems to accumulate the most random things. I used to own an insane amount of Tupperware. Cake and pie takers that were rarely used and enough bowls to sink a ship. It feels so much better to just keep the things I use on a regular basis.
I use my toaster almost daily but I do not keep it on the counter
I just bought a thing that makes ice cream out of a solid frozen block. I do have a 1200 w Bullet and a powerful food processor. I don’t know how they convinced me but it looks like a game-changer. I won’t have to freeze my ice cream “batter” into small ice cubes now 😅 I don’t know how that’s gonna be different compared to still having to freze it in a large container, but it was the selling point. How do I stop being like this 😂
When you figure it out please come and tell the ret of us!! 😂🤣😂
I'd love to have my counters cleared off.
Unfortunately, this older home has shelves in the lower cabinets which come all the way to the front - so no place to put appliances, also limited cabinets. We have a pantry but it is flat, so it's small, again no room for those items.
If you can remove the upper shelf (as in not built in place), have someone rip the backside of the shelf. You might need some holes drilled to support the less deep width, but you can pick up shelf supports at any hardware store.
I have the same full depth shelves. We decided to use the closet by our kitchen to store larger appliances and serving pieces.
@susansweat9125 I f appliance height is the issue, could you store them separately? I have the pitcher of my blender beside the base instead of on it. I turn the top of my food processor upside down and place it in the bowl so the whole thing isn’t so tall.
My bottom cabinets have a full shelf too. I put laundry baskets or strong boxes on some shelves to act as pull-outs, so I can get to things in the back. Big sheet pans serve the same function. Drawers would be my first preference, but full depth shelves are far better than those half depth ones I had in my previous house.
Omg, I am a big fiesta fan and your fiesta collection has me excited, please donate them to me if you’re looking to downsize them 😂
Clutter does indeed increase stress levels. Not panic attack levels but more like perpetual background noise you stop noticing but continues to shred your subconscious.
I'm hosting Christmas this year. 18 people ... not enough dishes that match. 😮
Have one side not match the other side. Or, let it all be random. If it bothers someone, let it.
If it's in the budget , matching dishes from Dollar tree, they have heavy plates and chargers for last minute decor at a lower price
I’m hosting thanksgiving in a few days for 50-60 ppl. They are getting the finest china that disposable plates come in 😂
I'm sure people will be much more interested in the food than whether the dishes match! 😀
Kitchen Aid too heavy for me to keep moving on and off counter.
Yes! This was the main reason I kept my mixer on the counter for the many years I used it.
❤
Thank you! ❤
