+matth... Not entierly true. Long before this tune was the first "techno/disco" tune ever: "Popcorn" by Gershon Kingsley (1969) which was made more popular by Hot Butter.
🎵"New York, London, Paris, Munich everybody talk about mmm Pop Muzik🎵. That was our favorite part of the song. Very early synth pop music back in the late 70's early 80's. We loved it and we all got on the roller-skating floor and did our best dance moves we could muster up to this song whenever it came on! By the time we eventually got cable television in our household we finally saw the video, we thought it was a bit odd, but we already liked the song, so it didn't matter to us at the time. This is still a favorite of ours! I'm glad you enjoyed it! ☮ and 💕
Another skater. From age 11 through to 16, I think I spent half my life at the skating rink, I don't think I've ever had more fun doing anything in my whole life. Such great memories of just pure happiness. Hope it was the same for you 😊
@@taniaPBear Yay! It was the same for us all really. We were exposed to all types of music, anything that was on the American Top 40 it was played there and the kids not only from our city, but neighboring cities came too and we made friends along the way. Yes, we enjoyed our youthful days back then and cherish them.
This, and a wave of other songs, came out literally overnight and put a end to the 1970’s and ushered in the 1980’s. I can't remember when a decade changed overnight.
this was a gateway for a lot of us into what would be called New Wave. It's the first hit new wave song. Another song of this type is Cars by Gary Newman
Oh I wish someone had warned you, this is the ultimate ear worm! He’s talking about how pre fab a lot of music was at that time, the commerciality of it. So damn fun🤣
I LOVED IT! Still do! Late 1979 when this came out. You just *knew* things were changing, 80s were about to hit like a freight train. This was the wake-up call.
You're right, it's one of those songs we hoped to hear. The same way we loved to hear Funkytown, Freak Out and Ring My Bell. People would pour out onto the Dance Floor 💃
This definitely was one of those transition songs like you said. In 1979, punk was coming to an end (Disco was around to about 1980) and turned into New Wave.
This is what I miss. Pop music (😱) was catchy and very listenable in the 80s. I’m into more hard rock etc but I love this song. It’s well crafted and well executed. It’s also a very snarky song about the pop music record business of the time. Quite clever.
some other fun songs from this era which are worth a listen to are The Monitors - Singing In The '80's, Player One - Space invaders, Mi-Sex - Computer Games, Squeeze - Cool for Cats
This came out in 1979. I remember around 1980-81, my mother and I went to a pizzeria for lunch. We sat in the back room and no one else was in there. I went over to the jukebox and it had a quarter in the coin return. I played this song and it BLARED! I felt bad for my mother the whole time the song was playing (seemed like an hour).
Robin Scott with his wife Brigit Novik on backing vocals. Their children are also musicians. Daughter Berenice Scott was a touring member of Heaven 17. Check out Robin Scott - Peace Of Mind from 2017. Has some David Bowie vibes to it. Also M - Moonlight & Muzak. Robin Scott ate 76 years old today
This song was at the forefront of the emergence of new wave music. 1979-81 was such a great time for music as everything started transitioning away from disco and the 70's to the 80's and the emergence of computer technology and a new genre of music and the origins of music videos. I really miss those days.
Oh the memories of high school hallways with everyone playing their boomboxes between classes. Those were the days. New wave near the library, rock by the restrooms, metal in the metal and wood shops. Country by the gym. Those were the days.
The beginning of new wave/punk and the 80s sound. I turned 20 that year, crazy times. The nonplussed girl wearing headphones singing was the lead singer’s wife. She recently died.
Love this song! My grandpa had it on a 45 record and he put it on a mix tape. So every weekend when my sister and I were kids and we went to our grandparents, we'd be listening to this song in the car.
This was a fun video kinda refreshing I'm gonna share this on my FB page and I already hit the like button as always knowing I'm gonna like it and support you., and this is my second comment I love ya and really enjoy what you do. Miss ya Jamal yt took you out of my algorythm what ever Im back to enjoy your variety of reactions God Bless stay Blessed xo
You are AWESOME Jamel!!! Thanks for this! I `distinctly` remember when this came out, because I was experimenting with early computer sounds at the time. I thought 'Well, I'm gonna have to work harder' ✌
Such a great song with such fond memories! I was about 9 when this came out. Like so many other new wavy/synth-pop type songs of that era that my older sister introduced me to, I couldn't get enough of it. I would also highly recommend Heaven 17's, "Let me go", another cool new wavy style deep cut.
I got a K Tel album when I was in the 7th grade and this song was on it and I played the heck out of this song! So I was like 12 when this came out, I'm 54 now and still love this song!
It's great to see you reacting to music again, I know it's been difficult, and although I've been following you for a few years, I don't think I've commented before. Your open-hearted reactions are beautiful and a force for good which is badly needed nowadays of course. You're right about Talking Heads; both are New Wave, Talking Heads are more artsy avant-garde, and this is more on the self-reflexive satirical pop side, while managing to be very popular. There are many sub-genres in the the New Wave of post punk; the richest genre in music, very experimental and embraced the DIY punk ethic. Also on the plus side I suspect it will be a lot easier to post New Wave videos without hindrance as it was niche. Let me know if you want any recommendations. Peace and blessings.
bother u took me in the wayback machine! Makes me think of the early 80's esp. MTV, imho yeah; MTV helped change the scape, brought new wave, punk into the mainstream, groups that never recieved airplay on top 40 and even the then hard rock stations, I actualy remember seeing the first video on the format, the buggles- video killed the radio star, pop music was in that early rotation also groups like the tubes, the cars, human League, Hewy Lewis, Talking Heads, Dead Kennedys, cindy Lauper, Pat Bennitar, Duran Duran, some off the top of my head, but recieved regular rotation along with earlier promo videos, like Queens bohemian rhapsody, and groudbreaking videos from Michael Nesmith, "monkeys" then Elephant parts, then ten years later MTV again changes music, history with Yo-Mtv raps, got to give the network, entreprenuers, early VJ'S their props, really did change the game
LOL, keep thinking of all those groups, Men at work, Blondie, The Pretenders, Adam ant, who could forget Akrons Devo, only a New Wave cult following until MTV, then blew up to superstar status, but still others like, M, Human League, Men at work practicaly unheard of today, only like a shadow of that era., oh well gettin too deep for my shallow brain, peace doc! Happy Fathers day to all the dads out there, mch love
I was a kid when this came out and I thought he was saying "New York, London, Paris you make everyone talk about Pop Muzik talk about"... Not realizing until years later that he was saying Munich! D'oh! 🙉
This was the beginning of electronic music gone were regular drums and guitars. Gary Newman was another one who tried it out...they didn't really last long and most of us were obviously not convinced it was the way to go. Nothing beats the good old guitars and percussion.
Jam, I'm sorry you've been singled out by YT. Best I can figure it you've been too intelligent for them. Hang in there because your fans will, along with you. Good reaction to a plenty enjoyable song.
Never was a huge fan of the punk/new wave era of music at the time, and even now I'm not particularly knocked out, but I can appreciate it for what it was, and the era it came from. And you're right, Talking Heads & this group were from the same genre of music, thus the similar sound.
That was massive back in the day in Australia!! I’m 57 years old now. The 80s was my youth ❤👍👋🇦🇺 My favourite 80s song at the moment, Siouxsie Sue. this is also epic: ua-cam.com/video/bfygNGVdJ7g/v-deo.html
Omgosh..everytime I hear the words "pop music" I sing this song and I'm 61 years old. It was a big hit back in the day
When released in 1979, this was basically an intro to the entire genre of 80s synth pop
+matth... Not entierly true. Long before this tune was the first "techno/disco" tune ever: "Popcorn" by Gershon Kingsley (1969) which was made more popular by Hot Butter.
1979, the time of transition from disco to new wave. What an era of musical experimentation.

Boy you got that right. That was the hook!
I was 9 years old when this came out. It was right at the tail end of the disco era and my preteen self loved it.
Same! I loved this song. Hell, I still do 🤷🏼♀️😁
Turning 50 in 2 weeks so same here, I was either 8 still or had just turned 9 - this song was the shiz!!!
Sane here and the opening synth makes me smile to this day.
This was one of the first good music videos.
This, and a wave of other songs, came out literally overnight and put a end to the 1970’s and ushered in the 1980’s. I can't remember when a decade changed overnight.
I'm of the opinion that 1979 to 1981 were, instead of a sudden change, a gradient where they were a melange of both the late 70s and early 80s.
Robin Scott is the singer and the guy behind M. Very clever guy. amazed that they never had any more hits.
this was a gateway for a lot of us into what would be called New Wave. It's the first hit new wave song. Another song of this type is Cars by Gary Newman

"Wanna be a gunslinger don't be a rock singer" - when it comes to pop music, those words were prophetic 44 years ago
1979 was kind of the Birth of New Wave Synthpop. I think this song was about the Throw-away nature of some Pop Music.
The video played, bro!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I was 14 when this hit the airways...I loved it! This, and "Cars" by Gary Numan.
You're right, it's one of those songs we hoped to hear. The same way we loved to hear Funkytown, Freak Out and Ring My Bell. People would pour out onto the Dance Floor 💃
This will be stuck in my head for hours....Thanks lol
🤣🤣 🤣

My very first vinyl 45 I ever bought. Such a great song. Love watching you. ♥️💖💜. Much love from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
This was my first 45 too!
Mine too! Spent my own money at Sam Goody to buy it.
Techno rap for sure. Fun song that makes u move.
This is what I miss. Pop music (😱) was catchy and very listenable in the 80s. I’m into more hard rock etc but I love this song. It’s well crafted and well executed. It’s also a very snarky song about the pop music record business of the time. Quite clever.
I had a 45 record of this song and feel in love with it! Thank you 😊❤
Loved this song for decades! Good times! 💜
😂😂😂 I forgot all about this song when I was a teenager! This was before hip hop...see how clean rap can be?
I remember listening to this on The Casey Kasem Top 100 of 1979 on New Year’s Eve.
some other fun songs from this era which are worth a listen to are The Monitors - Singing In The '80's, Player One - Space invaders, Mi-Sex - Computer Games, Squeeze - Cool for Cats
It was the first of the electronic pop. This came out in the late 70's and early 80's. M was a one hit wonder. You should hear Popcorn by Hot Butter.
79 was the tunnel to the 80s MTV and the British Pop invasion to our TVs and Clubs.
One of my favorites! He had such a cool vibe about his music!
aw man. I love this song. he also has a ton of remixes done over the years too.
This came out in 1979. I remember around 1980-81, my mother and I went to a pizzeria for lunch. We sat in the back room and no one else was in there. Classic song, I still have the 45, no player, but luv to hear it on my XM satellite radio. Great 👍 choice 👌. 😊
One of my favourite songs of all time! Funny you mention talking heads, Wally Badarou who was in M also worked with Talking Heads :)
I'm also getting a Devo / Gary Numan vibe
Now this is a blast from the past! Thanks Jamel 😊
Bussing table's at the Gre** M** restaurant when this came out....damn I'm old...great to see you having a good time with this brother !!
a big 'ol boombox was a boogie suitcase! On your shoulder, against your ear....and could be heard from a block away 🤣🤣
This song was at the forefront of the emergence of new wave music. 1979-81 was such a great time for music as everything started transitioning away from disco and the 70's to the 80's and the emergence of computer technology and a new genre of music and the origins of music videos. Oh the memories of high school hallways with everyone playing their boomboxes between classes. Those were the days. New wave near the library, rock by the restrooms, metal in the metal and wood shops. Country by the gym. Those were the days.
A great blast from the past. Electro pop. Thanks Jamel. Good to see you doing music reactions 👍
The beginning of new wave/punk and the 80s sound. I turned 20 that year, crazy times. The nonplussed girl wearing headphones singing was the lead singer’s wife. She recently died.
I think you would love "Life is a rock but the Radio rolled me."
Yeah ! Not blocked !
Great return down memory lane. Thanks for the reaction!
FK YEAH!!
80s rock!
Love this song! My grandpa had it on a 45 record and he put it on a mix tape. So every weekend when my sister and I were kids and we went to our grandparents, we'd be listening to this song in the car.

Some real middle school vibes! Now where is that boom box.
I was 13 or 14 when it was released and it was by far my favorite song and to me amd many others it opened the door for new wave.
You are AWESOME Jamel!!! Thanks for this! I `distinctly` remember when this came out, because I was experimenting with early computer sounds at the time. I thought 'Well, I'm gonna have to work harder'

I loved it. Unapologetically playful.
Love when you do music ❤, hate politics. You are one of the best when you react to music. And it went smooth.
I got a K Tel album when I was in the 7th grade and this song was on it and I played the heck out of this song! So I was like 12 when this came out, I'm 54 now and still love this song!
Wow, haven’t heard that song a long time! Thanks for playing or Jamel!
Semper Fi brother !
One of my favorites. Grew up with this
You were getting down dude!!! Love your videos and this is a cool song!

I loved this song!!!
When I in 5th grade, my friend brought his dad's reel to reel to school, and we listened to this song over and over.
bother u took me in the wayback machine! Makes me think of the early 80's esp. Early Synthpop classic.
M was one of a kind! Just fun "pop" music to listen to!
DAYUM. Dropping a fresh one with a classic. GG. GG... 👏
I was a kid when this came out and I thought he was saying "New York, London, Paris you make everyone talk about Pop Muzik talk about"...
Not realizing until years later that he was saying Munich! D'oh! 🙉
This was the beginning of the UK new wave tide.
This was such a great jam to rollerskate to on Friday nights, because you know the skating rink was the place to be when this came out! ✌️😉🎶❤️
We used to go crazy on the dancefloors when it was out
I remember when this came on Mtv
Thanks Jamel
Thank you for making me feel OLD!

Can’t wait to see your reaction to this song 😊
This was New Wave at the beginning of the 80s. I had this 45 record when I was 11, but this was the first time I've seen the video.
I got into this because of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert. That musical introduced me to this and MacArthur Park by Richard Harris:
Bought the single in 79.. there was a shift in the UK to synth based , it was going to be huge and a really exciting time. Still love synth music
Aaaaw mah gawd! Ain't you heard this bro?
Yes. HBO and other music video had this in 79/80... geez I was 12. I don't remember
One of the first videos on MTV
Lol! Soooo 80s for sure! I can dig it a little wait!? Isn’t that the music for ‘PopUp Videos’ an MTV thing?
i distinctly remember that one lonely kick drum
played the grooves off this record, i was 10 years old when it came out in UK
LOVE this song!!!
EARLY days of MTV.......
Insanely brilliant then....and still. :)
Jam, I'm sorry you've been singled out by YT. Best I can figure it you've been too intelligent for them. Hang in there because your fans will, along with you.
Good reaction to a plenty enjoyable song.
Never ever ever did I imagine this would show up in a reaction video.
This is a great song!!!
Grab your roller skates! 🪩
Loved this song 💖

1979!!!! I was 12
Teenage me loved this one.
That was massive back in the day in Australia!! I’m 57 years old now. The 80s was my youth ❤👍👋🇦🇺
My favourite 80s song at the moment, Siouxsie Sue. this is also epic:
ua-cam.com/video/bfygNGVdJ7g/v-deo.html
Geeez I was 5 when this song came out. My sister had the 45 and I played the heck outta that 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pop music by M reached no 2 in the UK singles charts back in 1979 and was there only hit.
That was Awesome 😊
early in the video days... seemed very much like a novelty song even then...
That's another song that gets stuck in your head.
Early days of MTV.
Welcome to the 80s!! 😊😅😂😂❤❤
Man. I forgot this song!
