Cool. First correction you made the remedy reminds me exactly of LH on Titanic by James Horner.( not same key) After years of sight reading you automatically do some of these because of good composers who proceeded you.
I've been playing for over 40 years, pretty traditional then classical and jazz training. This is gold. Never really had a pop accompanist perspective, and you really lay it out there simply and clearly. Liked and subscribed. THANK YOU!
This was extremely helpful. Being self taught off of youtube it is easy to find the basics. But this information a level deeper to sound more professional and less generic is extremely valuable. Thank you!
Jonny understands what is at the heart of music: telling a story. We’re not just tapping keys in clever ways, it’s that we have something to say, and he’s one of the best I’ve seen at helping us bring those stories to life. Thanks Jonny!!
My thoughts tooas I was watching this exactly. I was trying to glean bits of info from here and there on UA-cam…but not as a cohesive work through. This is perfect!😊
This lesson covers every single thing I'm stuck on in my playing!( I could be the poster child for amateurish accompaniment). Jonny , your videos never fail to enlighten and clarify the concepts in a way that really works for learning. Thank you!
I really don't understand how anyone can give this video a thumbs-down rating. PWJ's videos - and I do mean all of them - are so exceptionally good, helpful, engaging and to the point that I would love to have multiple thumbs-up to rate them. Please keep up your excellent work!
Apparently, "iT's tOo diFfiCulT" Bruh, no one has any obligation to cater to beginners, and they act like he doesnt have a playlist called "beginners" with hours of content
I was expecting a accompaniment like in a band setting, but everything you played was outstanding. I am a beginner/intermediate bassist, where the 4 chord progression one of the most boring things to listen to, and you made Pop progressions sound interesting, bright, and alive. This video was so much fun just listening to you play.
I’m stuck in a stride style left hand. This style also helps me keep time. I can use block chords and arpeggios, but they sound terrible. When it comes to accompanying, especially in a band, I’m really at a loss.
Thank you. I'm a guitarist just starting to play around with piano and your lessons hit the spot. Compact and direct, they give a great overview and are very helpful in pointing the way to a general understanding of the piano as an instrument.
As a teacher for any pianist please remember there is a progression to learning don't get frustrated. Think of it like stairs and we all go through those steps to grow.
For the love of God, I’ve always try to explain this to my professors to know how I could improve. Maybe I couldn’t explain myself well. Thank you for the video this makes so much sense!!
Wish I came across this video before I played with a very awesome team last week. I am an amateur who is so inspired to do better with this video right here. Thank you so much.
I'm only on bad habit number one and already I have a stack of new ideas flowing. I've been messing around with sus2 for decades (in the right hand) and never even though to use it in my left hand. Feeling pretty dumb right now, but also hugely grateful to have found this channel and, the website too!
Habit #7, No Story Telling, I think is the most valuable skill to strengthen, which I see is the combination of #1-6 😀. Not only for pop style, but it’s cousin Contemporary Christian, desperately needs “ebb and flow” to take the song experience to the next level. Thank you for this lesson, I’ll have to check out some more and add them to the toolbox as well!
I don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed that you didn't call me out on anything I do, haha. It's good to know my accompaniment sounds professional (it ought to, I AM a professional) but now I have a nagging doubt that maybe there's something I've been doing that's been marking me as unprofessional in other ways.
Im that amateur pianist. Very educational, accessible and straight to the point without sacrificing clarity. Sobering to humble myself and accept i can do better. And not only could both players and composers learn from this video but content creators too. No nonsense. Just helpful practical tips. I appreciate these great tips so im writing this comment out of gratitude. But now i need to absorb this new information and let it make me a better composer and pianist. Cheers again. Cant emphasize how much i appreciate your work.
Thank you so very much Jonny, that was another well defined and demonstrated and clearly put across the four methods of such useful grooves to make it all more comprehensive and understandable..., you must be completely clear headed and well- balanced to be able to make so much sense..., please keep up the great work 😑😌🙂
I'm amazed with your talent Jonny.. i'm very thankful for reaching us and teaching us with your knowledge about piano.. and i think the best way to say thank you to you is to share the Gospel of Christ to you... and I just want to say to you that JESUS LOVES YOU! 😊
Great lesson! In the defense of the "beginner patterns: you gave them a little bit less love (dynamic-wise) than the following progressions xP Ofc still a huge level-up, much appreciated! :)
Am I going to be able to play jazz well if I do everything you said in your lesson videos? Is there a set of smaller number of videos that you think I should definitely learn from?
The stuff in this video is more pop oriented, whereas in jazz there’s a lot more melody in the right hand and it uses other scales. But I think this can help you to get more comfortable with playing chords.
Nice one Jonny! When I first saw the title (as I'm subscribed) ---- I initially mis-read the title ..... and thought it said 'The 7 Signs of an Amateur Pianist' hahaha. Total mis-read here. Nice video once again Jonny. Thanks!
I loved the video but in the final part I think it's important to have in mind the range of the soloist instrument (being a voice, or another instrument) so that we don't mess up with it. Other than that they video is great ;-)
It's because you are playing for 18 months, don't worry you'll get there ! If you really want to understand this video specificaly, you could exercise each part for two days : you will feel what he meant If you have any question I'll try my best to answer, I'm a self taught myself (as a lot of people following this channel) and I know it's hard sometimes ! (Sorry if my english isn't good)

Hi Jonny. Can you do similar tutorial on jazz comping? How to make it more interesting?

That’s enough for a next few years practicing! Thanks so much!

This is exactly what I was looking for for so long but couldn't find. Thank you so much sir! Nice and clear explanation. This will get me going (:
Glad it helped!
And what you said is exactly what I want to say to Piano with Jonny. Thank both of you!

This is what I have been looking for. Thank you very much.
I have learned so much more with four or five videos from this channel than with dozens of private lessons. Thanks a lot, Jonny!
I already am a member of PWJ, this one convinced me of being at the right place. Awesome lessons and such a friendly and motivating community 😊👍🏻
I think you meant "awesome".
@@paulchapman603 oh yes, sorry. English is not my native language 🤭

I’m a vocalist who sings light jazz and standards….this has bumped my accompanying myself greatly ….highly recommend.
As a teacher for any pianist please remember there is a progression to learning don't get frustrated. Think of it like stairs and we all go through those steps to grow.
I don't play the piano, but these concepts are definitely applicable to music (other instruments) in general.
Much appreciated.~
I like this lesson, this is great ideas to teach advance students that don’t want to learn classical music.
One of your best videos thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi Jonny! Your videos gives me depression. I am playing it for almost 10 years but these mistakes were never identified on me.
So many pop and worship songs could be used with these. Thanks for sharing Jonny. Love it!
For the love of God, I’ve always try to explain this to my professors to know how I could improve. Maybe I couldn’t explain myself well.
Thank you for the video this makes so much sense!!
This was so helpful and well explained. Thanks!!
Thank you!
Great suggestions in this video! Just a side question, what piano sound are we hearing? I really like it.
You’re a GODSEND. ❤Thank you, Jonny for sharing your knowledge and skill. 🙏🏼
The best video tutorial for accompaniment! Thank you, Jonny!
love this! Beautifying piano play. Thks Johnny for very detail explanation.
Wow this is a great video thanks man. I want more of these.
Sneaking in some quartal harmony for the newbs, very nice.

Fantastic lesson, but in most impressed by the piano sound. Curios what your playing the lesson with. thank you for the content!
Johny, simply you are The Best! Thanks so much, like always

Omg. Such a great video. I was looking for something like this but couldn't find anything interesting online. Well done! Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
Will recommend this lesson, Jonny; there's so much information
Thank you Jonny for your great tips and generosity. This is so useful and I now add different variation to my piano playing.
I love those tipps! Well appreciated - presented exactly the way I need them! Gr from germany...
Great tutorial! I love the way you break it down.
Great presentation!! Thanx Jonny, I really appreachiate😃 Your lessons 😎

Thank you for the wonderful information.
Glad it was helpful!
FANTASTIC...That's what you are sir...
Jonny do you cover any gospel playing tutorials? For instance Bruce Hornsby the way it is, or mandolin rain style?
Thank you so very much Jonny, that was another well defined and demonstrated and clearly put across the four methods of such useful grooves to make it all more comprehensive and understandable..., you must be completely clear headed and well- balanced to be able to make so much sense..., please keep up the great work 😑😌🙂

Great demo.
Thank you!
I love this lesson but my question is whether or not it can work on any progression?
Yes it can work on any progression but not every song.
sign #8: accompanist forgets what chord comes next and stops playing in the middle if the song.
Can we try these ideas on Amazing Grace?
Thank you so much Jonny
Awesome and congratulations for your clear english!!!
You are good. Thanks Johnny
It’s hard for us amateur pianists to match your insane skill-level… ;)
Really great points made.. Loving it..
thank you Jonny, much appreciated
Amazing lesson thx jonny . U r best

Great, clear and straightforward. Thank you ! 😊
Great lesson!

Described just under 2 mins of watching my friend.

I loved the video but in the final part I think it's important to have in mind the range of the soloist instrument (being a voice, or another instrument) so that we don't mess up with it. Other than that they video is great ;-)
Your lesson is very interesting
Would you reveal, what software you use to integrate the virtual keayboard in the scene?
I use Midiculous: midiculous.com/
