I bought my 08 CSS from the original owner. It was 3 yrs old and had 7400 mi - it was his garage queen. It's now my DE / summer show car / winter beater as I put snows on and drive her in the winter (I have a Box S LE as my spring-fall car). The original owner would crap his pants if he knew I did this, but hey, it's my car. She now has 68K mi. Don't save it for the next owner.
I've got a customer who has 280k on his 997, engine has no leaks, does regular maintenance, drives it in the snow on road trips weekly, every thing is fine mechanically, interior is beat to hell but I think that's moreso the owner My 996tt has 120k no issues, it's crazy how well porsche builds cars, now if only they could learn how to build a v8 lol
That’s nothing! My friend and I took his brand new (back then) panamera turbo loaded up the trunk with mulch, yard seed, potting soil (about 550lbs IIRC), a bale of hay in the back seat, with some flowers, misc shovels… the people at Home Depot looked at us like we had 3 heads.
I was all supportive of everything he said right up until he talked about running the tires down to the cords and then doing a 10 hour trip. Thats just straight up unsafe and dangerous to not only himself but everybody around him, purely idiotic

Like transporting 5 rolls of 4 meter long carpet in the back of an 4 series gran coupe BMW (and bungee cording the rear gate to said carpets, because the automatic opener wanted was engaging all the time), or transporting a fridge in an Ford Mustang convertible (because it was too big to fit into a G Wagon) and there was no chance we were renting a van and no roof means no clearance.

(It's in fairly decent condition, just has some maintenance/mechanical issues.) But, yeah, I could totally see her asking for money to do this experiment.

I think he needs to drive a Panamera. The reviews I’ve read do not say it drives like a 911. But high props to him for buying a 997 and using it like a regular car. I was all set to buy a 997 Turbo, but decided to buy a luxury 4-door pickup instead for the same price. Was unhappy with the truck experience and sold it a couple years later. Meanwhile, 997 Turbo prices shot up by $25k. Dang - missed my window! My STi hatch is “close enough” to a great “do everything” car, but a 997 will be in my future.
I daily my 996 c4 and have done quite a few off-roading adventures including wet clay drifting, forging trails after a hurricane has blocked paths, and wet muddy field parking lots. As far as the neglected maintenance it has almost 180k miles and has the original struts.
I daily a 924S, I've hauled 8' baseboard radiators and steel stock, I've gone to the moped races with my race bike in the back with the front wheel popped off, camping gear, a cooler, 90 percent of my tools (only thing that didn't fit was the oxy/acetylene rig), drove back without realizing I was pretty concussed after I crashed. My dream is to get a spare and make a ute.

Oh please, if anyone has ever seen an Accessory catalog from BMW back in the 90s then none of this is groundbreaking stuff. They had a Roof rack (cross bars) for the E36 SOFT TOP and there was a ton of other cool utility type of stuff in there too including hitches.

Also I have a picture of a dark blue 911 Carrera (I think 996 generation) with what the guy told me was a custom made roof rack that holds his track day tires. Dude was attending a PCA event at the same facility but different track, that I was doing a HPDE. Mad respect for that guy.
I thought I was the only one... I used to haul firewood (1 cord or more at a time) with my manual Acura TL. It worked fine. People think vehicle functionality needs to fit in some sort of box... but they really don't. Only on a few occasions have I towed something with my truck that my TL should not have towed.
so I use my cayman as my daily driver year round in Michigan.... I have put a generator in the fronk a keg. spare sub frame for a boxster and a set of skis .
He put his teenage daughters in the backseat of a 997 for road trips… he may say they did not mind but he is wrong, he is living in his own little world if he thinks anybody over 4 foot two would be enthusiastic about squeezing themselves into an area the size of the interior of a little tikes car for more than 10 minutes
