Duo Veston - Tony Allen (Buscemi Remix)

As bass player of the jazz collective Obatala, Steven van Gool played a number of concerts with guest musician Tony Allen. This legendary drummer had invented and refined the Afrobeat in the 1960s. He was the drummer and orchestra leader of Fela Kuti, one of the key figures of the Nigerian jazz scene. It was an incredible experience for Steven to share the stage with one of his heroes. Afterwards Tony said:”It's like we've been playing together for years.” In a way it was, because Steven had played for years on the Fela Kuti records on which Tony Allen played the drums. After Tony's death in 2020, Steven's desire to pay tribute to the unsurpassed king of Afrobeat grew. Dj Buscemi was immediately in favor of a collaboration.
