I like most of JST's videos but some of these beginner tips seem a bit useless because they use snappy samples that don't sound anything like real drums. I'm not sure if that's a great idea to use in teaching beginners.
Not arguing or even disagreeing really, but perhaps it might be likely that a beginner would be using some sort of samples/drum vst as opposed to trying to mic a real kit? That was my beginning anyway, I def did not have the money for a kit and microphones
@@No-sr5fb Yeah, you're right about that. At least in metal music, samples are very common. Beginners probably shit their pants when they try to mix real drums though, if they have never learned how to do that. 😁
That’s what I was gonna say. I would really rather see real drums being mixed. Yes we all use samples but would love to see live drums mixed by him. Although love all JST videos. 👌👌🤘🤘

Is there any reason to do any of this on sampled drums?
Depends on how they're processed. I do with GGD yeah, just to add a touch of punch basically. Doesn't need as much levelling
Most sampled drums still don’t sound that great, and even if they do they still need processing that can never be baked in because it depends on the performance, tempo, song, overall mix. Etc.
