I'm so glad I got to see this performance with these two back in '96. What a show! When he came on stage for the first time the audience when crazy and I didn't know why until I heard the familiar voice of Mr. C.
I love how the Broadway adaptations of both TLK and BatB come off as natural extensions of their animated counterparts without claiming to "improve" or be "better" than the original. It helps that Linda Woolverton was involved and made sure it was consistent with who the characters were; this drives home Belle's relationship so well with Maurice that it makes the sacrifice later much more wrenching, I almost wish there was something like this in the original (although what we got was perfectly fine)
I would also include the 1979 Radio City Music Hall version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It's really the prototype for what Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King would perfect fifteen years later - an adaptation expansion that takes advantage of the change in medium, while still remaining true to the source material. The later stage adaptations got lazy and lame, but the first three were really something special.
Thank you so much for adding this. Every time I see someone do this show I wish more and more that I could've seen the original. B&B is so close to my heart, so thanks again for adding one more piece to the puzzle.
I like to think that Belle's last name is Leocrart, because in the French dub of the movie, she was voiced by a woman named Benedicte Leocrart. Also explains why, if they had last names in ancient Greece (which I don't think they did), Meg's modern day last name would probably be Theokleous (Evridiki Theokleous, her Greek voice)
I'm going to see this musical in uk next year if who plays Maurice is as humble as Tom soon as I saw this Father Dowling Mysteries love that show and Happy days Howard Cunningham
Oh my goodness, this is AMAZING......an early happy birthday to him, and I absoulutely LOVE your voices; this brightened my day so SO much, Thank you for posting this!!!!! :D
Tom Bosley may he rest in peace had many good roles like Sheriff Amos Tupper on Murder She Wrote, Father Frank Dowling on Father Dowling Mysteries and even the voice of David The Gnome on the animated TV series David The Gnome. But his Maurice Takes the Cake
No matter what you do I'm on your side And if my point of view Is somewhat misty-eyed There's nothing clearer in my life Than what I wish and feel for you And that's a lot... No matter what Belle No matter what they say You make me proud I love the funny way You stand out from the crowd Maurice It's my intention my invention Shows the world out there one day Just what we've got... Belle No matter what Maurice Now some may say all fathers just exaggerate Belle That ev'ry daughter's great? Maurice You are! Belle And ev'ry daughter tends to say her father's tops Maurice She pulls out all the stops To praise him Belle And quite rightly! Maurice No matter what the pain We've come this far I pray that you remain Exactly as you are This really is a case of father knowing best Belle And daughter too! Maurice You're never strange Belle Don't ever change Both You've all I've got No matter what.
I am honored to perform this role in February 2018 in Bay Ridge/Boro Park, Brooklyn, NY, and am using Mr. Bosley's performance as my model. He is perfect as Maurice. I didn't know he could sing with such emotion as he does in "No Matter What". www.brownpapertickets.com for ticket info.
Ruined the Beauty movie for me when they took out this song.......the story lost its focus on the relationship between father and daughter, which was important.
He was, in my humble opinion, the perfect choice for Maurice. He conveyed that eccentricity and paternal love so perfectly.
Absolutely correct
This was the first musical I went to see as a kid. Is it ironic that I'm watching this on Father's day?
this was my first show I got to see on Broadway back in 2000 when Andrea McArdle was playing Belle. seeing the show again omorrow in San Francisco.
I swear, my heart just melts every time I listen to this song.
They need to bring this brodway gem back to New York
I can't tell if that's a pun or not
I'd hope it's a pun

He was a great actor,.. great song, and thanks for sharing this with the world!
Just gorgeous, I'm always captivated by you Susan!
Tom Bosley may he rest in peace a very good actor and he really sings very well. As Maurice he really throws himself into the part.
Yes! A clip from the original Broadway musical of Beauty and the Beast! And with good quality, too!
best Maurice ever☺😊
Crying watching this.
I hadn't seen this play in years, and just saw it again at the theater connected to my workplace. Fell in love with this song all over again.
A quality actor. Everything he did was timeless.
I watched this several times in preparation for a callback. I am pleased to be cast in the ensemble.
rest in paradise Tom Bosley! Susan Egan is theee best Disney princess EVER!

Saw this cast a few years back at the Pantages in Los Angeles. Incredible. Loved it so much.
ohhhh. such a walk down memory lane.... those were fun years. :) Happy Birthday, Tom. I love you, my dear Susan. xo

This is a terrible theory. It makes 0 sense.
Today Commemorates Tom Bosley's 90th Birthday
Your voice is so amazing I love watching this and comparing it to the 5-star theatricals one because you were AMAZING
I guess Megara portrays Lady Belle on the side.
She also plays Rose Quartz from "Steven Universe".
Spoilers:
It's got to be a lot of work acting alongside running a rebellion against yourself.
I'm going to see this musical in uk next year if who plays Maurice is as humble as Tom soon as I saw this Father Dowling Mysteries love that show and Happy days Howard Cunningham
Thanks for sharing this; if I had three wishes, I would immediately wish to see the original Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast.
This is amazing! OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH for uploading this!

I already knew that Susan Egan played Meg in Hercules!
But I've only just found out she played Angel in Lady & The Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure!! OMG!
