Phoenix had to do this. They’d have to fill out their roster the exact same way, regardless of doing this deal. This is basically Shamet and 6 seconds for Beal. CP3 wasn’t going to come back, regardless. The KD deal sealed their fate. Instead of having KD, Booker, and Shamet with a bunch of minimums, they get KD, Booker, and Beal with a bunch of minimums and whatever they get for or from Ayton.

As a Suns fan I know this isn't going to happen but to me the best use of Beal is how the Spurs used Manu Ginobili. Having him come off of the bench, still playing 32-34 minutes, to me would be the best use of Beal. It allows you to stagger Durant and Booker minutes so they always have at least some combination of Durant/Booker/Beal, it gives you a strong bench player who can get you points, maybe protects his body more. They also need to have an offense more similar to the Warriors, a motion based offense, so it's less iso focused. Booker and Durant are great iso players but they could make their lives easier running more motion. As a Suns fan, I can dream, it's about all we can do.

    • @sjsupa
      @sjsupa Рік тому +6

Bradley Beal is going to have no excuse. He’s going to get some seriously good looks at the basket, most teams don’t have the defensive capabilities to defend kd or Booker as individuals never mind them both being on the court together. i just think the upgrade is worth the price in the first couple of years of this massive contract just because i prefer Beal taking those open shots Okogie and Craig were taking. I know that the defense will force whoever the 4th/5th guy will be in the lineup to take those shots next season anyway but there were so many times the Suns missed having the third option when CP3 was hurt. And sure Beal is more of a scorer than a shooter but I'm sure there will be plenty of times he will be setting the offense and producing catch and shoot opportunities for Booker and Durant. @francishagood1460 Рік тому

I’m a diehard suns fan as well. But look at this way, what was the reason we lost to the nuggets. First was the fact no one else could score if booker or KD wasn’t scoring especially when cp3 went down. Second we couldn’t defend a parked car in a driveway and we had no bench. Insert Beal and depending on what else we do this makes sense. Let’s say we use him like the spurs used Manu coming off the bench putting up his 22-25points while one of the stars rest. I miss bridges and what he gave the team but as good as cam Johnson was he was starting to have injury problems. So before it starts to get bad get rid of him four Kevin ******* Durant. Don’t care bout his injury history or anything it’s KD. And have draft picks mean nothing when we are trying to win now.. so from one suns fan to another just wait and see what else or who else we can get to get us a chip now.. I’ve heard crowder wants to comeback, Dillion brooks can be someone who may be willing to take a pay cut for a chip, we can still flip ayton for someone like capela or turner and a role player. Dwight Howard and boogie cousin still out there working hard on their craft.. so it’s see what ishbia, James Jones and Vogel can put in place to make us next year champions barring no major injuries throughout the season

Long term, probably one of the worst trades ever done by the Suns. In one year, they have decimated their championship run team, only keeping Booker, Payne and Ayton. Beal is incredible but his role is a scorer. All the things the Suns need to compete he doesn’t bring to the table that hasn’t already been brought by Book and KD. New ownership is lost in the proverbial sauce

As a long time Wizards fan there’s a dichotomy to everything in this discussion. When it comes to the wizards side the amalgamation of the Beal deal is an all time bad move; however, being able to get out of his contract in the situation we’re in is a positive. When it comes to the Phoenix side saying Beal can’t be an elite third option is asinine; however, it can be close to guaranteed that his injury history will lead to him costing them a series. If Phoenix’s big three is healthy they’re the best team in the west, but stamp it, they won’t be healthy.

    Talk to KD,Beal,Book & Ayton:
“All 4 of you will play together for 8 mins a night
4th quarters is Book & KD (primarily KD unless Beal or Book is hot)”
“3 of you will play together for 18 mins a night with Ayton being the primary 3 man”
“2 of you will play together for 40 mins a night”
“All of you will play at least 36 mins a night the only exception will be KD”
    Talk to Beal & Book:
“I need at least 50 pts & 12 assist with commitment to passing lanes & help defense”
    Talk to KD:
“I need you to play 3 dribble basketball from every spot on the floor outside the paint. Post play included and I need you to learn how to give DHOs to Book & Beal”
“Defensively, your cardio is off ball defense & defensive rebounding, I need you averaging 25, 8 & 4 with 8 boards all being defensive”
    Talk to Ayton:
“I need one championship out of you, after that I’ll trade you wherever you want to go”
“This is your audition to teams,
4 on the floor (P&R, DHOs, Defense & Rebounding)
3 on the floor (intro to mid & low post) 3rd option regulation
    2 on the floor (DOMINATE)
    Sign NO ONE that is
Older or smaller than Bradley Beal & guarantee a commitment to 3 point shooting, defense & rebounding prior to signing.
Sign 2 rebounders & weight at least 260-270. 3 point shooting is a bonus.
    Talk to Vogel:
“Defense & Rebounding is your priority, keep it simple. 2 man actions both on & off the ball, use everyone but Beal & Book as screeners”
“Keep KD well rested in the regular season and as well rested as possible in the playoffs let Book & Beal lead the offense never let KD bring the ball up & give Ayton the free throw extended & paint use & challenge Ayton’s versatility
Pre All Star break OT periods keep KD out! I don’t care what he say, count on Book, Beal & Ayton to bring us home”

I don’t love the move from phoenix standpoint cause your locked into this squad and have to fill out the rest of the team with mid level guys. Plus their issues were more so on the defensive end not offensively. You have D Book and KD, what phoenix needed was more grit players that don’t need the ball but are hustle players just who play hard all the time. But will be interesting to see of course if it can workout. I truly believe every player in the NBA has the necessary skills to play good defense cause if you are in the NBA you have basketball intelligence, athleticism and quickness speaking relative of course to be good enough and not just be lazy on that end of the court. If Frank Vogel can get KD and D Book to buy in defensively and Beal then they have a chance at winning the chip with Beal kinda having that Ray Allen Celtics game running off screens aka playing/moving without the ball more could possibly work.

PHX fans better hope these guys start the season fully conditioned and ready to go because they are going to have to log a lot of minutes throughout the season, not to mention how injury prone Durant and Beal have become. They are going to have no role players that will be able to "spell" them for long periods of time off the bench. If they trade Ayton and get some good role players and size it might work out. What's comical is how a lot the media (not including these guys) are now crowing them as next season's NBA champions. As a Nuggets fan, I love it because I know it motivates the hell out of the Nuggets when the press has already began pushing them down the totem pole of the NBA's elite teams only a few weeks after dismantling every team they faced in the playoffs. I hope the media continues to overlook the Nuggets next season as well. Kendrick Perkins and Skip Bayless would pick a 16 year old AAU team to beat Denver if they had the opportunity. The media as a whole are a joke.

I think the Wiz front office jumped the gun when they could have found a better return had they just waited. Sure they're getting CP3's 30M that could come off the books but they could have found similar salary to come of their books.
Miami would probably jump at a Lowry & Oladipo (a combined expiring 39M) plus Caleb Martin & Nikola Jovic plus 2 1sts for Beal & Taj Gibson.
How about the Knicks with Rose & Fournier's salary, some 1sts plus a player like Quickley and/or Toppin?
Everyone wants to keep pointing to Beal's no trade clause but had Washington gone to him saying "hey we found a couple playoff teams that would give you a much better chance of winning than here and we'd get a decent return for you" he'd probably have helped the team out there.
