Wos picking Sabonis when he plays every game, puts up historic stats, and has provided a foundation for which the lowly SACRAMENTO KINGS are in position to make the playoffs for the 2nd time in like 20+ years is just nuts. Does he have limitations? Sure. So does 98% of the league. You build around him and support him because they don't win shit without him.
MPJ is a key piece of the best team in basketball. What are we doing?
Historic stats don't mean anything if you get handed a first round exit every year
He's horrendous on defense!
They lost a 7 game series against the defending champs when he had a broken hand. And Fox had a broken hand. In their first year together. You sound silly. @@kingpick240
@@FalseNi9e Such a casual take, watch the games. Their worst problem is below par perimeter defense
The Sabonis pick is wild disrespect. The Kings averaged UNDER THIRTY WINS per season the previous 15 seasons with a winning record ZERO TIMES since 2006 and they immediately became a perennial 50-win team after the Sabonis trade.
And Sabonis does shoot 3s. The last two years he's averaging 19.5pts 13reb 7.8 ast on 61/40/72 shooting.
I love Sabonis but you should also give credit to the Mike Brown and Fox for Kings ' improvement.
@ozberkoz Wos is racist along with much of the NBA media, he's riddled with these takes
“By all accounts, a beloved teammate” is quickly rising up my draft boards of Bill Simmons vernacular
What else is on your boards?
@@КонстантинЕськов-ь1у”he’s just out there doing stuff ..”

Picking Sabonis is wild. Wos clearly has watched 5 minutes of Kings ball. Complaining that Sabonis is 6’8 - meanwhile Sabonis 6’10 and leads the league in rebounds and did last year as well.
LOL
The fuck? The dude is not 6-10 he is 6-8, although it’s not a huge difference. The nba exaggerates the heights of their players, ala kyrie who’s 6 ft max and Desmond bane who is similar if not shorter
@@mrcoolguy2530 LMAO you are casual af. He was listed at 7’0 a year ago. Thats definitely a lie. But he’s not 6’8 you goober

@@mrcoolguy2530y’all pick and choose who’s height is exaggerated and not. Like people who think KD is 7’ when he’s 6’10.5
I thought Ben Simmons was unassailable but god damn, did House made a good case for Poole
Ben has one year left.
Yeah, Ben might just end up getting salary dumped at next year’s trade deadline in the way Westbrook was
@@joeb588 Obviously he's insanely overpaid. But it's one more year. Everyone else on this list, while my more serviceable, have at least three years...
Oran Poole. No J no D.
The thing is you feel bad for both. In both instances people made real cheap shots that are obviously having effect. Sucker punching someone into a bad concussion cannot be overstated, people change mentally forever from that. Just look up the behavioral things about post concussion syndrome especially bad ones. Being fouled every time you touch the ball in the beginning of a 3rd quarter can basically make anyone who shoots under 75% from the line (well over half the league and they're professionals) feel unwanted, especially when people are pointing and laughing at you after you were a part of the future of the NBA for 3 years. It's tough, and they're compensated well😊
Picking Sabonis was beyond stupid. That guy has been averaging near a triple-double and is pretty efficient on his splits.
It is all about how you value a contract. Is it maximizing the chance of a chip, then you could argue he was picked to low. If you want to maximize regular season success for mediocre team then it it stupid.
@@TheChessRunnermost teams aren't any where near contenders so if that's your standard every player making a lot of money should be on this list.

Oh that IS funny.
What would be funnier is if he got an easy question wrong in front of the class in the third grade, then started refusing to go to school.

I’ve been waiting on this episode all season 😂
Seeing this pod pop up is like Christmas to me
Imagine this contract pod in 2017 or 18
All you need to know about Glen Taylor is that the best player in franchise history refused to have his number retired while he has anything to do with the team.
Didnt he promise KG ownership and back out? Now hes pulling ish with selling the team again,
@@josereyes1148you can't do that though

This comment aged like fine wine, well done sir!
Last year chosing Gobert makes this whole format a joke not to take seriously
And yet I love it
The fact that Gobert doesn’t touch this now is an example of how things can change quickly
@@fortynights1513 OR the contract was never bad enough to even be considered here (which is my point)
As an Australian, I can confirm that Ben Simmons is not well-liked in Australia. He's the antithesis of everything we want in an Aussie athlete, no heart or desire whatsoever. Always says he wants to play for the national team at every major tournament before pulling out last minute. Wouldn't surprise me if he gets offered a deal by a team in our NBL purely because he's a 'big name', but guarantee he'll be booed in most arenas.
Sorry brah Aussies have no heart or desire in anything. He’s a good representation of Australia
You should ask Volkanovski to go beat some sense into him (I have a feeling that UFC fighter makes your country proud
Who would you say is the most loved player in Australia?
Mami
It's hard to believe that he has the same Aussie spirit as the Aussie cricketers who have tormented our Indian cricket team in all the big moments
I love Jordan Poole. I get to watch NBA basketball for under 10 bucks live in DC right now.
😂
Ahhh. Now I going to museums and HOOPS
Wos really thought cam johnson was cam thomas. Very clearly doesn’t watch the NBA then
Don't know what happened there with Wos. Other than that, seems pretty knowledgeable about a lot of the teams.
Wos just says things
That’s his schtick
No one over 35 actually watches the NBA these days. We catch highlights, look at some stats. That’s about it.
@@synapse913 I thought you said "no one under 35 actually watches the NBA these days." Both are true. :D
Ben Simmons in Games 5, 6, and 7 against the Hawks is in the running for the worst three game stretch in the history of professional basketball. The guy came off a stretch where he made 3 All Star games, an All NBA team, and was top 3 in DPOY voting for a super relevant team, and turned into the Sixers’s 7th man in the span of 2 weeks
You knew house was taking Jordan Poole even if he went first 🤣🤣🤣
Poole's dropoff is a testament to how well the Warriors system kept guys on the rails.
@@David-iv6jethat’s a stretch, Draymond is the most unhinged player in the nba, Wiggins goes AWOL every season and Kuminga had to call out his coach publicly to get minutes
@@ilovewithcautionWiggins father went on life support allegedly and a Warriors Assistant coach the whole team worked with died of a heart attack during a team dinner in Utah I think.
Playing with curry klay wiggins green looney porter jr payton III and the others really matters under kerr
Ben Simmons is #1 by far. Guy is Professor Finesser
It's not his fault he had debilitating back injuries.
@@pex3 hard to tell what’s fact and fiction with him. What’s “debilitating” for him is something that could be lived with for plenty of others. How hard does he work to keep his body right outside the game etc etc
The extra years for Wiggins almost makes him worse to me
Wos making the pod go for half hour longer than it needed to be
I know it’s expiring but to me the worst contract In league has always been Tobias Harris. When they paid him $180 million it was worse than when the hawks paid Joe Johnson $120 million for 6 years in like 2010.
Joe Johnson was the best player on multiple playoff teams bro, Harris has been the 3rd best on a team that can’t make the conference final, the Johnson contract wasn’t that bad comparatively
@@Cultivated. Then why did the hawks trade him 2 years after giving him 6 years and $120 million dollars
Iso joe is a dawg. Don't get it twisted
Why all the negative comments?
This was hilarious and wildly entertaining.
I think those haters didn’t finish the vid and just want to complain
I mean the video is pretty negative why not have the comments mirror that
did you guys get the vax?
21:30 About Poole handling being punched with "grace". This is very common with victims of violence and so is the depression that follows when their abuser is not held to account.
The fact that Draymond Green was not suspended by the league nor his team because they wanted him there for the ring ceremony at the first game of the season is unacceptable. Everyone involved in those decisions from Adam Silver, to the owners of Warriors, to the GM at the time Bob Myers, to Steve Kerr, Curry, Klay, etc should be questioned for how much shame they feel for supporting a physical abuser over a victim.
Until they all admit to their wrong doing without caveats. The way that Draymond Green likes to put caveats to downplay his actions is so gross and beyond not okay. All those people need to shout in Draymond's face that he was in the wrong until it gets through his thick skull.
This is a great take.
This is the NBA, not a regular tuesday in the suburbs, this isnt a normal occupation, rules get bent.
Nothing new draymond had two outrageous attacks this year on gobert and nurkic he pushed donovan mitchell out of the air and should've been gone for the year minimum. They still cry about him being suspeneded in 16 finals and say it was because he hit lebron. Saying nothing of his multiple groin attacks that same playoffs he was suspened because he got his 16th technical foul
This would hold water... if every one else on the team didn't want to punch him too...pooles terrible play isn't about the punch... that's psychobabble. He displayed the exact same deviant behavior and unbalanced play in their championship run...he just had a one off where many crazy 3's went in... go back and watch how many banker 3's he made...how many rattled around and fell in... his percentage was literally 10% higher than it really should have been.
@@berniekerns4281 "Deviant behavior"? His other teammates desire to punch him in the face does not justify Green punching a coworker in the face.
As for his play, it actually picked up the last month of the season for the wizards. In fact with how poorly Beal played in the playoffs along with his terrible contract, CP3 retiring, the Wizards probably won the trade getting Poole.
FINALLY, HERE WE GO BOYS
This is my favorite series of his. Last years was hilarious. I’m about hop on a flight but I’m downloading this one. I can almost predict Ben Simmons is #1 overall followed by Beal.
34:02 Fuccing can't play over 60 games.
so disingenuous
60 games in a 82 game season is 73.17% games played.
Guess what?? 2019-20 & 2020-21 seasons they played 72 games not 82.
Bradley Beal: 2019-20 Washington Wizards 57/72 = 79.17%
Bradley Beal: 2020-21 Washington Wizards 60/72 = 83.33%
AD and Sabonis???????? Are y'all wilding 😂?
Both guys are All-NBA level players and in the Top 5 of minutes played this 2023-24 NBA season. Either of them being taken in this draft is ridiculous, but both of them??????????
Despicable
The AD pick is just true.
Your mom true ho too
The Raptors began taking the 'God bless' option with Fred Van Vleet.
Way before that. They let Serge Ibaka and Kyle Lowry (essentially) walk in years prior. They also actively wanted Fvv, they just got outbid by Houston.
KAT over Ayton is craaazy. At least KAT contributes to winning and cares about basketball
Well to be fair, KAT is due much more money and he's older. Plus he missed a billion minutes in his life due to any kind of bad luck humanely possible. Ayton is at least healthy for the most part.
Favourite pod every year
Ben Simmons is the Roman Reigns of awful NBA contracts.
ACKNOWLEDGE ME!!!!!😂😂😂
Is that also a nod to how little he plays
I have not been following it much since he left philly. Does he actually have a real back injury or does he just not want to play?
@@JJ_5289 Seems like it's both. He wouldn't have gotten surgery if he was just faking it. But he hasn't really shown and desire to get back to his previous level or even play.
@@Kagemusha08 It just seems odd to me that there has been two surgeries for a back injury that a lot of people have been able to work through without surgery. im sure he is in pain bbut he does have access to the best non surgical treatments in the world. Then the agent came out and said its his fault. weird situation
Foreshadowing with Minnesota jumbo package beating Denver, props
34:54 “the only way to beat them is to outscore them”. Correct, Bill
1:26:53 Wos knows so much about basketball that he thinks Cam Johson is Mikal Bridges
Between co-signing the Fox pick in this a few years ago & taking Sabonis now, I'm starting to think that Wos just doesn't watch Sacramento.
The MPJ thing might be true, that he's a bit over payed, but the criticism of him not being the Klay type, that he's going to ask for more touches, that's completely unfounded and to the contrary from any of the reporting and interviews done. He knows his place within the offence, he continues to improve, he's only 25, and has now completed the most games he's played in a single season, likely more than your favorite player.
Think he needs more aggressive and figure out ways to create his own shot.
Wos, I respect you bro, but Sabonis belongs nowhere near this list. What are we doing?
Australia does not want ben simmoms back. You guys can keep him
picking sabonis is really ridiculous. nba leader on rebounds and great passer.
It is because his contract like Lillard is not going to age well.😂😂
This trio were the voices of much needed joy during COVID. Always awesome to listen to these guys talk ball.
I can't believe Andrew Wiggins JUST turned 29
Basically after 5 they start throwing out contracts they looked at for 5 seconds.
Moving forward you can disregard anything Wos says about basketball after those Sabonis comments. Since January he leads the NBA in assists, rebounds, double-doubles, and triple doubles.
Listening now. Last year’s is a stone-cold ReListenable 👏🏾👊🏾💪🏾
I've been waiting for this podcast since last year! This combo of people. It needs to be done twice a year.
You should do a lottery with 3 ping pong balls a month before this as an annual edition. I'm telling you Jerry, it's gold. Pure gold.
Jerami grant is good enough to be a trade asset other teams want, but bad enough that you'll be a lottery team if he's your best or second best player
Does he hurt his team on the boards? His rebound numbers are all time badish, for a big I mean.I know he is not traditional Power forward, but he plays at that position.
He’s like a 4th best player on contender
Dude thinks Sabonis is 6'8"
Wow Bill called it that Minnesota can eliminate Denver in the playoffs
You forgot that the jumbo package didn't have to deal with Aaron Gordon. BIG difference.
No just Gordon. Kcp over Gary Harris is at least 3 more points with the same usage and same defensive impact. And 2024 MPJ is way better than 2020 MPJ, being actually useful on both ends and not just one.
What is going on with my favorite sports podcasts? In the last day I’ve heard AD or Kawhi over Tatum for first team all NBA, Sabonis in a worst contracts draft, 12 different episodes of lakers or warriors coverage in one of the most competitive seasons we’ve had in a decade plus….. am I losing my mind?
Really trying to understand the bias against Sabonis. Agreed that he is probably more of a power forward than a center, but his defense is solid, he’s running the offense, his triple and double doubles are historically high, and the Kings will make the play-in at a minimum. Nobody outside of Sacramento is hyping him, so he’s not overhyped. Why is everyone consistently down on him?
Wos has a euro/white bias. Go back and listen to the pods, it's pretty clear and these sentiments are shared by many media members
The sabonis hate is crazzzzzy. Dude is a building block on a 50 win team, one of if not the best rebounder in basketball. Elite offensive player and slightly plus defender. Thats the market for a dude at that production. Its just hate frim wos
1:11:07 “he is taking it so freaking serious 💅 💅💅”
I'm an Australian. We don't want Simmons in our league or in our country or in our national team. He is the antithesis of the kind of athlete we are proud of.
As a diehard member of Heat Nation:
I would trade Tyler Herro off my team for a bag of beans. He's made of glass and seems to enjoy his fashion game on the bench and IG followers more than actually playing.
Heatnation also. Welcome to the NBA, this is the case for most guys that get paid
Watch Ben Simmons ball out next year and finesse another contract😅😅😅
I was worried this wasn't coming out this year :)))) this is the funniest event of the year, thanks Bill
It was fun to root against Poole when he was on the Warriors. And how he plays way out of control. But now, it’s just sad. I don’t root against him anymore.
Trae getting picked over Garland is crazy. Both on maxes but Trae has actually done something
Sleeper pick:Zeke Nnaji. He's literally just a salary match contract for a team that could use a solid bench big - which Zeke just hasn't been consistently.
That 2019 draft was a mess. There's no one in that draft that is a star. From one injury problem to another.
Bruce Brown is a team option for next year so I don't see how he's an honorable mention. Toronto can punt him no assets or money lost.
Comparing playing with Trae Young to playing with Lebron James is a window on Bill subconscious 😂😂. Lebron is not fulfilling his expectations. The most scrutinized athlete of the last 25 years doesn’t get blame enough. 😂 great podcast any way.
Its LeBrons fault he is not paying/producing Bill Simmons
LeBron has enough money/power to buy him but doesnt want to pay
Wos is a bum
Love this show
17:45 this didn't age well already. Green is not leaving Rockets any time soon
Sabonis fouls and travels 5 times a game. It’s not AD fault. He has to step up to cover monk and fox because they blow by the guards and also drop back to guard sabonis. On top of that they expect him to get 25+. NOBODY is required to do so much offensively and defensively in the league right now. Get my guy a legit center that can space the floor. Brook Lopez would’ve been so perfect man.
This is a good argument unlike others I’ve seen
With that said AD ain’t worth 60M
@@SMOOTHJESÚS yes he is. Look at who’s making 60m. He does EVERYTHING for the team. 25 and 12 with 3 blocks a game. Stop it. His PER is 30+ as well. Just build a team that suits his style and you’ll see him do even better. The moment he touches the ball teams swarm him because lakers have no other interior presence and they also can’t shoot 3s. Stop AD and you win the game easy. He’s a KG/Tim Duncan Prototype. Boston always had a bruiser center and the spurs when they played TD at center had a bruiser PF like Diaw who could shoot the middy and pass, extremely skilled.
@@him4882seems like Bill Simmons, House, and Wos were mentioning that AD IS worth the money for the next couple of years but that he most likely won't be worth the money 4 to 5 years from now. Especially looking at his injury history as well as how earlier prototypes fared (they used Jermaine O'Neal and his abrupt decline as an example).
Sabonis doesn't travel 5 times a game just stop, you clearly just don't like him or his dribble...
@@candidfob8423 he constantly picks up his pivot and don’t get me started on the elbows and shoulder to the chest. I watch basketball buddy.
Been waiting for this one, great tradition!
MPJ was the first or second pick the year after he signed his max contract extension. Now he is just consider a quality role player who still has an even higher ceiling. Let's go Nuggets!
Anthony Davis is the best defender in the NBA. 3rd in rebounds , 5th in blocks, 16th in points. And an NBA champion. Thats not a bad contract.
You might not /love/ paying them the max, but both Siakam and Anunoby are incredibly valuable players who also have zero concerns about either age or motivation. Why TF are they catching stays here
So happy to see this video come out!

Just an FYI on KP with Dallas. To those that didn’t watch Dallas, KP had a higher usage rate there than he does with Boston. Dallas was tired of his injuries. So were the fans. He has been healthier and that’s great. But be careful if you are going to rely on him to make a deep playoff run. He’s never done it.
Loved the chat! Subbed 👍🏼
The Kawhi hate is unreal. Ya complained him playing but he’s played 59 games this year and only played under 50 games the 2017-18 season. The not playing narrative is old and untrue
Idk if that's an "old and untrue" narrative.
- In 2019-2020, Kawhi played 57/72 games. That's 15 games missed (20% of the season).
- Kawhi played 52/72 games in 2020-2021, so barely over 50. That's 20 games missed (27% of the season).
- He didn't play at all in 2021-2022. Not gonna hold this one against him, but fact is he was not available for a full season.
- He played 52/82 games in 2022-2023, so again barely over 50. That's 30 games missed (36% of the season).
That's 71 games missed not counting that 2021-2022 season that he missed entirely. 71 games isn't nothing... that's pretty much a whole season.
Lol....playing 50 games is playing a lot now? Okay, then....
