Azula's fire is blue because she's able to generate a hotter flame than other firebenders. Her fire is also a physical manifestation of her cruel and sadistic personality.
And,she can also generate lightning which is a sub-bending of firebending.
It´s not that it´s hotter, it´s that it´s purer, blue fire can come from when burning leaves no remnants, essentially a "perfect" combustion, technically you could say it´s a little hotter, but generally it´s still the same that´s why even stronger firebenders don´t use blue fire, since for all the cost in making it it doesn´t bring enough of a benefit, but Azula is an absolute perfectionist, that´s why she makes it like that.
Lets be real they only made her fire blue to look cool in a fight against zuko.
"Azul" means "blue" in Spanish and Portugeuse. :) Azula's intro is one of the most savage ever.
Chong, the lead hippie, is voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who voices Appa, Momo, almost every other animal in ATLA, and EVERY CLONETROOPER in The Clone Wars.

In the fire nation, hair is very much tied to status and honor. So, when Iroh and Zuko officially became fire nation fugitives at the end of this episode, they removed their top knot/ pony tail.
I didnt remember through how much Appa is going in this episode. Thank God, it's all fluffy clouds for him from now on.

Azula is a character you hate and love at the same time. She is a perfect villain
The top knot is a symbol of family, loyalty, and honor. By cutting it off you are cutting off ties to whatever it represents to you, family, lord of your order, etc. It's a very big deal that has real life history in Asian culture.
Azula's fire us blue because it's hotter just like the blue part of flames you see in real life.
Azula is everything Zhao wishes he was. She's smart, conniving, brave, loyal to the death, three steps ahead, merciless, and resourceful. Plus, she has the skill and perseverance to back it all up. One of the best written villains you'll come accross. You will hate and love her all at once.
Azula enhances the dynamic of the show on a whole other level. A constant pain in the... back. I love this woman ❤
This season you will meet two of the best new characters that have ever touched the screen. Azula is probably the best animated villain. She was written to be the best and they never make her less than how they speak of her.
Most people tend to hate her cause she’s the villain of course but when you appreciate how bad and skilled she is you will love seeing her appear making stakes higher

Spilers for legend of Kora. But you guys called it EXACTLY as a joke. Zhao does in fact become a permanent tortured soul in the spirit world. You see him briefly in legend of Kora wandering aimlessly forever.
That Earth kingdom general is Daniel Dae Kim! He plays the live action Ozai in the Netflix series!
I didnt love the live action but Daniel Dae Kim SLAYED. Fantastic job. Couldnt have done anything better.

Also, I love how they build up Omashu with the story, creates a bigger impact in the last scene.

one thing i noticed that not many people see is when iroh and zuko go to azula's ship, iroh is wearing his armor like he is expecting something to happen.

Good 1st episode. Episode 2 is one of the best. So fun. And yes, "Secret Tunnel" is part of the culture. I want to know who came up with the songs. So bad they are great! Keep them coming when you can.
Season 1 was more world building, character introduction, and just a touch of lore and history. Season 2 shit gets real, real quick, especially the finale. Season 3 will have you on the edge of your seat

The general was the result of what an existence of war can produce. And the frustration you can feel by seeing the only solution to your problems appearing after decades of awaiting, giving you hope for a moment then vanishing away. It's easy for the watchers to say it was dumb to try to provoque the avatar state but when in his situation, not that much. He was wrong, but understandable. Just like the fisherman in the storm episode. And it's somehow showing to notice that both of them are from Earth kingdom, the opposite of air. Two serious people who suffered all their life lashing out at a young slacker who doesn't want responsibilities.

Fire and lightning are both forms of energy, just like ice and steam are both forms of water.
Season 2 is obviously amazing, but in a lot of cases it's because it's paying off things that got set up in season 1 without you really realizing it. When you go back and watch this again at some point, you'll pick up on more.

Zuko and Iroh cutting their top knots off is also a sign of leaving royalty, and leaving behind their past. A little bit disguise, but mostly, leaving their royalty behind. I think Zuko being around just every day people who are affected by the Fire Nation was healthy for him.. Let him see it from a different perspective
