    It worked!!!!! I was about to give up and then I watched and watched until I could do it alongside you. And it worked. Thank you. Casting on for your DRK Everyday Sweater in a beautiful Plum color of Patagonia Organic Merino.

    Thank you! Your tutorial video on the 2x2 Cast on in the Round was clearly explained and well demonstrated. The best I found….and I looked at a bunch. The ribbing of the cowl I’m knitting looks fabulous thanks to you. Do have a similar one on how to cast off 2x2 tubular ribbing?

    This is, by far, the best video on this technique. I wish I'd seen it first. Andrea Mowry's UA-cam is my "go to" now whenever i need a tutorial.

    i had a lot of trouble casting on over 200 sts for the trinigan cardigan since the stitches kept twisting on the cable (chiaogoo needles). if you have this problem too and happen to have Denise interchangeable needles, try with those. they saved me a lot of trouble since the cables are stiff and as thick as the needles themselves. once i was done with the first few rows i swapped to my usual chiaogoo needles and everything went smooth

    Thank you for this tutorial! I have a tip if anyone is uncomfortable with dropping off stitches and pinching them like I am. Another way to do it is to insert your needle as if to K2tog, so into the 2nd stitch on the left needle (which is a knit) and then continue inserting through the 1st stitch (which is a purl), slip them off so they are both on your right needle. Then insert your left needle into the purl stitch only, as it is now the 1st stitch on the right needle, and slip that stitch back to your left needle. The knit stitch is now twisted and on your right needle, so slip it back to your left needle and untwist it, and then knit it like usual! Or if you slip it back and leave it twisted, you can knit it through the back loop.

    You make it look so easy 😅 , when you got lots of stitches to cast on , is it easier to use jumperneedels/straight needles? With the cable all stitches just get totally twisted for me and its impossible to even see what stitch it is when I start ro knit

    Do you recommend this for socks 🧦? Or do you think it is not really necessary, but better for sweaters? I guess it is good practice to do on sock just to get used to it for other thing. Thanks great tutorial

      I’ve always used this for socks except that I have my own way of working it. In my opinion, it’s the best cast on for socks.

    I thought I was going crazy- but at 3:35 for the purl stitch, you keep the SAME movement as always, but switch to CALLING it “over the finger, under the thumb” . In the beginning of the video, for purls you said “under the finger, over the thumb” - so it may help to turn the volume down & just watch what you’re doing for those getting confused. I had to write it down myself to keep on track 🤦‍♀️😆🙃

    I watched your first video for tubular cast on when I started the Weekender Lite. It was impossible to cast on that many stitches and keep them straight. They were so small, I couldn't even count them much less work them. I don't have straight needles. Do you suggest buying some for this reason?

    • @Sara-qy5bu
      @Sara-qy5bu 3 роки тому +2

      I got the exact same problem, on the weekender for cast on all the stitches just twist on the cable and it is impossible to know what stitch it is. So my weekender is still in a pile just waiting for my frustration to go away 😅

      @@Sara-qy5bu I actually would a video by Very Pink Knits using waste yarn to cast on and it was doable.

    • @OnedayDesigns

      I use a tubular cast on for most of my projects. I have my own way of working it using waste yarn and a ravel cord. It works well for any amount of stitches.

    Andrea,
    Do you have any pro tips for doing a tubular/sewn bind off in the round for a large circumference? Like the hem of a sweater? Leaving a long tail of yarn seems to get caught up when pulling it through my stitches ☹️.
    Thank you 😊

    • @dreareneeknits

  • @pialindeg
    @pialindeg 3 роки тому +1

    Hi - you dont have to take the yarn to the front when lifting the purl stitch with yarn in front - you can just go under the the yarn with your right needle and lift the purl stitch off.
    Its much quicker. In continental knitting.
    Thanks Andrea I love your podcast - always so nice and friendly.

    It doesn't work for me... I have to cast on 88 sts. I finish with a knit st. But when I turn my needle to knit the first set up row I start with a purl st. Then I have to K2P2.

    I have thought much about this current 'in vogue' tubular cast on (and cast off) and I've decided that I actually don't want to use it. The tubular cast on is a way of mimicking commercial knitwear. And the commercial knitwear is produced that way because it's a cheap, fast way of trying to mimic hand knit garments. Why would I want to try to duplicate mass produced, fast fashion??

    I can't help thinking that, instead of pinching, it would be easier to slip it on to a cable needle...

  • @nikkiscott4341

    It's funny how "over" for one person is "under" for another. I guess it's to do with where you were just before. Here you use over and then under for exactly the same movement around the upper strand. The video is so good though and I now just cut the sound. I guess that makes me a visual learner as far as knitting is concerned.
