This tip is great and works well. I have bought another tray. I put it upside down on top the half cooked chips and then flip the whole thing over and ALL of the chips are turned over at once :)
Thanks Lauren, thanks for the ideas to cook chips in the Halogen, and good luck with the Tefal. I must say I absolutely love the chips when they are cooked in there! Good cooking Lauren, Jan
+dereton33 Well, you know, I've never really been a fan of frozen chips before, of any brand; however, Al made a comment in one of your video's about frozen chips tasting better when done in the Tefal acti-fryer, and on the strength of that remark, I tried some frozen chips in it. Boy, were they good. I'm so glad I bought it. All thanks to you two... :)
I HAVE HAD MY LITTLE OVEN FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS NOW AND LOVE IT. THE FRESH POTATO FRIES (CHIPS), TASTE SO MUCH BETTER THAN FROZEN ONES, AND COOK SO MUCH FASTER. IT'S JUST ME AND HUBBY NOW, SO I CAN PUT A WHOLE MEAL IN MY LITTLE OVEN AND BE DONE SO FAST.
Hi, we've gone from an actifry to the tower halogen oven, and we were wondering how you do your chips please? We tried them tonight but chips on top rack burnt and chips on bottom were raw?! any help would be fab please xx

Why do people have to comment so negatively? If they did not like the video, watch something they are interested in instead. I like this channel as it gives great advice on how to use my halogen oven. Yeah, it’s probably a tad fiddlier than using a regular oven but it cooks brilliantly and uses a fraction of the power of a full size conventional oven. Everything nowadays has to be convenient. As a kid, I remember my mum preparing everything by hand from scratch, so making chips did involve cutting up spuds, parboiling and frying. Nothing was pre-prepared and she knew exactly what was going into things. Nowadays, everything is chemical laden and prepackaged for convenience people prefer that over health and environment 😬
lol. They turned out far better than mine did. But I have to say tho, having bought the halogen oven, on the strength of your video's, I figured that it might be prudent to go further and get the Tefal Actifry too... Again, down to you two. So, now I have more options than before. What can I say? You both inspire me... :)

fabulous - love your accent and like your man enjoying them at the end LOL - I'm doing this today - seen you before and will no doubt come across you again - love my hallogen, but like getting new ideas with less of the trial and error
Nice! Hmm... I wonder if the following reflection idea will brown the chips on both sides without turning: Cut and place a rounded piece of aluminum foil (shiny side up) at the bottom of the oven (on the inside or outside of the oven). Instead of a solid plate on which to rest the chips, you lightly mix and season the chips to taste in oil and put them on an oiled wire mesh that has a grid only dense enough to not let the chips fall through. Spread chips such that the bottom of the oven is visible between the chips. I don't have a halogen oven just yet, but I suspect this method will brown both sides and should decrease the cooking time a bit. I also think as a general method, putting aluminum foil (shiny side facing inward) on the bottom and all around the sides (again, on the inside or outside) of the oven will make the oven more efficient and decrease cooking time with better browning. If you try it, please let me know how it works out. :) (Putting the foil on the inside may help with cleanup as well.) I know part of the joy of cooking with a halogen oven is being able to see the progress of your meal with a simple glance through the glass. However, this can still be accommodated if the foil is on the INSIDE or OUTSIDE of the oven with a few holes here and there in the surrounding foil, or if the foil is on the OUTSIDE of the oven, you could fashion an easy-to-open flap where the foil comes around and meets its starting point. Now, given all that... IF the glass gets hot enough, perhaps all that is needed is the wire mesh as described above as the infrared heat from the glass might be enough to brown the underside of the chips. Likewise for the general method, putting the foil on the outside would ensure that the heat from the glass still participates in cooking the food.
Sorry, but I don't think they're very evenly cooked. Plus, it took TWENTY minutes of faffing about. I can shallow fry chips, also made from fresh potato and parboiled, in about 5 minutes. Okay, so the halogen ones may be a little healthier, but as long as chips aren't eaten too often, I don't see a problem with a shallow layer of sunflower oil in a frying pan. Not a deep-fat fryer! Those things are deadly!
Your shallow fry chips are loaded with saturated fats and that includes your sunflower oil. Saturated fat being the nr 1 culprit behind heart disease. So the extra time required to cook these in my opinion is time well spent. Why do you think they sell air fryers?
No Deep fat Fryers are ok if you just have chips once maybe twice a week, you wont catch me pissing about with a air fryer par boiling, ? Turning them over ? Bollocks
I just put them in the bottom rack for about 20-25mins ndi mix them around halfway through. I buy blanched frozen fries for oven baking. They come out great and i dont use any oil!
+dereton33 wring, the way it works is that the moving air seals the outside first then cooks inside as the air cannot escape like your expensive to run normal oven does. never going to a greasy chippy again and never buying frozen chips ,i've been enjoying airfried chips with a tablespoon of oil for nearly a year now.You just don;t go back to greasy after.
I bought a black and decker air fryer . returned it the next day ,some fries were hard some good. not worth the 100 bucks. I did not boil it,your right, why would I boil it? the infomercial says nothing about boiling it.
A tablespoon of oil in a bowl large enough to give the chips a good covering when swished around, I use the spoon I put the oil on to do that. To stop uneven browning turn the chips half way through the cooking time, use the higher rack. Trust me you'll never want fried chips again, but treat yourself to them now and then. I got my Kitchen M8 from idealworld online £39 over a year ago and will never go back to a conventional cooker sez. it all eh?

Better method I find and also can get away without parboiling (although sometimes I prefer to) is do 15 to 20 minutes low heat and then 5 to 10 minutes on high to brown. Yes takes longer but less messing around as already in oven and dont have to watch except to increase heat at end

by the time you boiled using gas and then have to use hologen to keep cooking yes less fat but takes twice as long and uses gas and electric dont see the point sorry my opinion
Another way is to cook *sliced* fresh potatoes, also parboiled first, in a normal fan oven. What you do is, use a good potato for frying/roasting like Maris Piper, although I also get excellent results from Charlotte potatoes. Peel them, slice them and parboil for a minimum amount of time, perhaps only 1 - 2 minutes, testing with the point of a kitchen knife. By parboiling, not only do they soften a little, but because they're piping hot, they dry off very quickly, and you need the potato slices to be dry before the next stage. Then place the slices in a saucepan or bowl and add a MINIMAL amount of cold sunflower or other suitable cooking oil. 1 desert spoonful is enough. Gently turn the slices around and over in the oil till all surfaces are coated. You don't want 'em dripping with oil! Dab off any excess oil with paper towels if necessary. Finally, place the slices on a baking sheet (use the new non-stick Bacofoil, it's brilliant!) and cook in the centre of the hot oven for about 20 minutes, turning once. It takes longer than shallow frying, but you ARE using a lot less oil, so the fried potatoes are healthier. I don't think it matters that they're not shaped like chips... I did try the same approach with chip-shaped pieces instead of slices, but the slices work better.
In secondary school in our first lesson of my cooking class, the teacher asked us to bring in a vegetarian recipe with ingredients, and make it in the class. I was playing football and had totally forgot and with 5 mins ago ran round the corner and grabbed a potato and some ketchup. To cut a long story short... I was kicked out of class.

It’s a long way round to make a few chips. 🤷♂️
Worth it though.
lol that's way to much effort! !
deep fat fryer every time 😉
Your choice Chris.
Se is hot, the chips.
I thought a halogen oven was supposed to be easier and faster.and......not trickier mmmmmmmmmm
What a long winded way to do chips 🍟 in your Halogen oven, the time it took you from start to finish,I could have circumvented the globe 🌎 in a hot air balloon made from potato peelings, but keep on chipping away 👷🍪 you will get it right someday 🍟😋👍
You are right! Ther`s always another time.
A fat fryer is quicker no messing about
It may be , but think of the fat, this is about a tiny fraction of the fat used to cook chips.
Sod that I'm off down the chippy...
Enjoy.
Such a faf
Worth it.
how much was you paid to do that no amount would make me eat those chips
Jesus christ, takes 50 minutes for 1 small plate of chips
Don`t take the Lords name in vain. Especially not for a plate of flipping chips.
5 mins + 10 mins + 10 mins. Not sure why JC took 50 mins ? ;-)
Easier to pop down the chippy buy some pop home eat them throw away the paper make a cup of tea sit back and relax . And Hers are still cooking.
Kinda misses the point going to the chippy.
@@dereton33 it would take ages to cook enough for my family.
Don't look good, I would spend £2 and buy them from the chippy ☺️
That`s your choice.
Chip shop.
Sort of defeats the point.
Lot quicker in a real fryer and the sub titles need sorting out badly
Chip off the old block.
Looks like too much effort.. just going to stick with cooking mine in the oven
What a waist of time too much effort needed 🙄 I need to put the food in when it's done take it out and eat all this turning it over phew
minnietwoshoes lol😁
But my dear, surely youleave that somrt of thig to the servants?
Lets all put the full stops in ourselves as clearly that was too much effort too. Good game though. First time through I was wondering why you put the food in when it was done !
