    I have spinal arthritis and my neck strap has been KILLING me. I just ordered one of these. Thanks for the recommendation!

    Hi Jay. After enrolling in your Pentatonic Foundation Course (best course ever! 😃👍) I found this review of my beloved Saxholder. As somebody else here already said: The Saxholder saved my (saxophone) life. Or at least my neck. 😉
    I 've had the Saxholder for over five years now and it still looks absolutely new. I use it with the alto and also with the tenor. When sitting with the tenor, it is not quite as perfect, that's true, but I still use it while sitting. It's still better than a normal neckstrap.
    Your review is great, but you didn't mention the screw in the middle (in the triangle, where the "arms" of the Saxholder meet), with which you can adjust the distance of the two shoulder "grippers" even better. I didn't know that until yesterday, even though I've been using the Saxholder for so long. 🙂 But yesterday a colleague told me that it works, and I am absolutely thrilled. Before, the two "arms" were always a bit too close to my neck, now they keep a little more distance and that's perfect.

      hey thanks! glad you like the course. I did not know about that screw either. I'm going to have to check it out.

    I bought it for baritone and i love it! After two years now i use it for SATB. The soprano is the only horn for me that fits better to a normal neckstrap but works also with this one.

    Been using for a couple of years now for baritone and tenor, the strap comes with soft bag, so just pop it in that to prevent scratches. Recommended, though if you bend or lean over you have to be careful that it does not come off the shoulders. We just ordered the new pro version so that we have one in each sax case. It comes with two cords of different lengths for taller players if needed.

    I've had mine for a year and a half, and I think it's great. As you mentioned, it is a little awkward when sitting and playing with the tenor to the side. So glad I found your channel, thanks!

    I own one of these straps too ... Best ever ... Feels like the sax is floating in front of you .. Saved my neck and you can mold it to fit your shoulders .. Fantastic thought into the design .. Wouldn't use it for sitting down playing tho...

    Jay - I picked one up and trying to get to it. The biggest problem I have with it is the swivel angle difference of it vs a standard neck strap so when you may push forward on the horn a little when going into the high notes of the horn and / or altissimo notes so your hands are free and not constrained. This is with my tenor. Outside of that I love it.

    I've had tendonitis problems the last few tears - little and ring finger, first left hand and then both. Turned out be years of a standard neckstrap with tenor sax. One vertebrae where the nerve to those fingers is compressed, and that messes up the nerve. At the moment using a harness, but will switch to one of these. Also having physical therapy to strengthen upper back and improve the neck. Really worth it. I advise any serious player to sort out posture/neckstrap stuff before it bites you.

    This, or something similar, will be good for me.
    I get a lot of chronic neck pain, and I really would like to get a Tenor sax, over an Alto.

    JazzLab are selling a newer version of this neckstrap now. Would you please make a comparison review?

      You can fold it up and put it in the bell.

      @@bettersax It fits in the bell of my tenor, but not my alto. I don't mind carrying it around, since it at least gets rid of my severe neck pain.

    My first impression was : Wow! But after 2 hours of playing the tenor I felt the mouthpiece more and more applying an uncomfortable pressure to my incisors. It´s because of the suspension point being about 2 1/2 inches before your body. Unfortuntely I needed to send back the saxholder.

    I need to have my sax off to the side due to saxophone ergonomics and my left wrist. This is while standing. Would this strap work that way comfortably?

    • @Chronic.Pivoter
      @Chronic.Pivoter 4 роки тому

      Works for me. I am playing a tenor, and I often put the saxophone off to the side.
      I am playing the original JazzLab SaxHolder though (as shown in this video), the one they are selling now is supposedly improved, but I haven't tried it.

  • @pacomaisanava4390

    And what about using the Jazzholder playing seated?, does the jazzholder go out from the shoulders?

    • @bettersax
      @bettersax  6 років тому

      Paco, If you are seated in a normal chair, the saxholder will put more pressure on one shoulder and be less comfortable and effective. I have not played it for any length of time seated because of this. I suspect it may be possible to make it work, but I haven't tried so can't really say.
