That's our second Chinatown. The first Chinatown was downtown. It was so successful that we outgrew it. That's why there is the new one in the Bellaire Beltway area. You should have seen it before the lock down. So busy.
@@EdwardInTX usually go there for my noodle fixes. any weekday or weekend night its hard to find a parking spot and entire parking garage full. cant wait for the stores to open back up
@@EdwardInTX The original China Town is in what today they call East of Downtown (EaDo), around the area where you find the BBVA Houston Dynamo stadium, the whole area has been redeveloped with condos bars and other stuff, I doubt there are any Chinese businesses there anymore, I haven’t spotted any at least haven’t seen one there since at least the early 2000’s, there’s a big Kim Son restaurant located there, but that don’t count cause it’s Vietnamese, actually the original Little Saigon was south of Downtown as well in Midtown, but like everything the area has changed over the years, and the businesses moved out to the west of the city, anyhow the New China Town out on the west side on Bellaire Blvd. is where it is at 🤔👍🏻
Hi, fellow old time Houston Chinese restaurant. I grew up in the old Chinatown off the corner of Walker and Chartres. My dad was the chef in Sun Deluxe Restaurant and later on at Lucky Inn. I used to live in the old house where the Chinese cinema was built on. I haven't visited in a long time, but the cinema got converted into a small Chinese grocery whose main business was selling Chinese bbq. I'm guessing that they're gone too. That old Chinatown had character. It was benevolently controlled by On Leong (which back then was part of the "Triad", but is now a legitimate business association). Yeah, I used to hang out with the old Chinese crime bosses when I was a kid. My mom used to tell me to get my dad back home from the gambling house because women weren't allowed in. Good times! This was back in the 70s. I was in college at HBU, now, HCU, when my classmate's uncle open the first Chinese oriented business on Bellaire, Diho market which is now Jusgo.
Just a heads up to people. China Town along Bellaire Blvd is not the same as Bellaire, TX which is near the galleria in central Houston. Totally different places
There are many more Asian neighborhoods in Houston, Bellaire/ East of Beltway 8 is the main Chinatown, Bellaire/ West of Beltway 8 Is Little Saigon, I-10 and Longpoint area between Gessner and Blalock is Korean town, plus a brand new Asian Town out in Katy by 99 and I-10. So much to explore.
How many H Marts are in Houston? I had a friend from Korea who moved to Houston and I helped her find H Mart in Katy in 2011. Very awesome place; huge!!! I like Asian snacks like the dried peas. Unfortunately, I live in Corpus. Although the real estate down here in locations like Padre Island and where I bought my house have been big money makers, its only begining to see variety in food as more folks move here to invest in some of the cheapest waterfront real estate in the US. Id love to see more Indian groceries. We do suddenly have alot of new Asian resteraunts. The Korean BBQs are local favorites. No longer just Taquerias. McAllen Texas has a surprising number of Asian folks and resteraunts. LG (is LG still around?) has or had a big factory in Reynosa Mexico so many people from Korea live in Mcallen and commute. A few of my Asian friends have become like long lost famly members and have introduced me to some great Asian food favorites. I didnt even know what edamame was until 2011. Goof stuff. I love it. I might go to Indonesia someday. The food my friends in Pontianak show me looks crazy!
I just stumbled upon your channel Edward, and i appreciate the knowledge your are spreading. I am a recent college graduate from NYC, and looking to escape to Texas(Dallas,Houston) or Florida(Orlando,Tampa), Specifically Texas, which place is better in terms of weather, cost of living, insurance, & general attitude toward asians?
Ah, went to Chinatown Houston last year. It hasn't changed so much since, so good to see most of the stores still in place. What about the Little Saigon area across the Fwy on the west side?
Thanks would’ve love more of this content. I’ve lived in Houston all my life and I’ve only been to that side once I didn’t even know we had such an amazing culture right by hate that Houston is so segregated.
Love the video, thanks for the tour of my hometown neighborhood! The density of Asian businesses here makes Houston Chinatown feel much like the San Gabriel Valley. Very vibrant place where storefronts change every month

I love going to Bellaire when I'm in Houston. That is always my first and last stop. Dun Huang market has my favorite restaurants. Thanks for posting.
Awesome! Same here.

Not really totally different. Chinatown is further out Bellaire Blvd. Same street.....

Thank you for this. My mom just called and told me she wanted to move to Houston. Talk about a bomb drop haha
Please visit Little Saigon Area in Garland
Still on my to do list along with zTao
I used to go to that place all the time! Quarantine has held me back though-
Same here...I use to frequent there on the weekends since I'm 2 hrs from that place
Nice video any Thai restaurant there ? I would like to go open Thai noodles soup there , any advice?

Specifically Texas, which place is better in terms of weather, cost of living, insurance, & general attitude toward asians?
Houston would fit that criteria
Texas has good weather and I think low cost of living

I missed that part. I’ll get there!
Wow you're in Chinatown?
Haven't been there in a minute
I actually did this road trip back when I picked up my car.
@@EdwardInTX Have you checked out Asia town in Katy?
How would you compare it to Little Asia in Plano?
@@KingAsa5 Yes, and the one in Katy is smaller. I believe most would go to this one unless they lived nearby.
Hello, what’s the best Asian barber shops with ladies not dudes?

Good to know!
Are there a lot of hurricanes and tornados there?
there's a handful of them yes
@@EdwardInTX how can you live there with tornados, are you scared
@@iseeflowers The thought is scary, yes. I can handle it though.
lol...there way more asian places in houston ... and this wasntt even all of bellaire...there like so much more plazas on bellaire alone
Love the video, thanks for the tour of my hometown neighborhood!

If you need a realtor recommendation, I recommend Tiffany Theodore in Dallas (DFW) Texas area. Her email is tiffanytheodorecheng@gmail.com
Enough said
That's Sharpstown area not really Bellaire.
what u mean that isnt bellaire? that literally on bellaire...lol....
You didn't show where I could meet single Asian professionals that aren't gold diggers.....the massage parlors don't count...
And most the restaurants shown have health code violations.
Your accent sounds like Mexican and American accents mixed)))
More like Chinese filipino
this is so depressing
What a trash Chinatown. Nothing like a real one, like what London has. Entirely centered around food and massage parlors. Sad
Lmfao that mask... You weirdo 🐏
