If you are self testing yourself, looking your body over every day, posting pics online for reassurance or opinions, constantly googling your symptoms... you do not have ALS.. you have health anxiety. Next time you think you have ALS, ask yourself "who says i have als?"

Just wanted to say thank you. I have twitches and work out all the time. The anxiety from thinking I had ALS was absolutely debilitating I would not wish that on my worst enemy. The anxiety alone can cause you to feel weak be clumsy and take on the very symptoms that you're worried about. Thanks for the reassuring words.

I have it horribly bad . But this all started after I took a Flouroquinolone Antibiotic in September of 2020 . I had an adverse reaction to this antibiotic and I started having heaviness and numbing in both legs and arms . Coordination issues , lightheadedness . I once had numbing everywhere . In my lips , face , tounge

My mom had ALS and passed this January. It’s something I ironically didn’t even consider for myself until after she passed. Now suddenly it’s all I can think about. I even watched and was apart of her entire diagnosis and decline and know what it does and still find myself feeling irrational. Health anxiety is real. Everything you’re saying is 100% accurate and thank you for posting this even though it’s old. I needed to watch this today and be reminded as I wander down the rabbit hole. My grandmother passed of als. I also have health anxiety something that can help us is that als is rarely spread through family. Less than 10 percent of all cases have a family component. I don’t think I have it anymore now. But that didn’t help me initially. I hope you’re well. It’s a terrible disease but we are here for anxiety

I'm currently scared of ALS and this video has helped. And honestly just to say I'm 21 M Both parents being fully Mexican so I'm not Caucasian. And the disease Diagnosis 5000 a year in the US alone, most of them being people ages 45+ or old people. Most of them being Caucasian, so the odds of me getting it is like 1/500,000 but even right now I still think to myself I might still have it. Even tho my left leg was cramping eazily one months ago. And just by my leg cramping and having the foot drop I instanly went on Google. ALS poped up. So honestly when ever I think I had a disease I instally get very anxious and I start to feel like j actually have it. When I thought I had Malaria I felt really sick with itchy skin. When I tought I had aids I had sex with a girl and instally caught a fever the next day. I tought I had a brain tumor because of like 3 days of on and off headaches. I had GERD but I tought I was having a heart attack.I woke up one day simple sleep paralysis, I had weakness on one side of my body and I woke up not being able to move with slide pressure on my stomach. In my mind j tought this was a real stroke. It was just my mind while having sleep paralysis. So basically I'm a extremely anxious man when it comes to my health. But one month ago I started getting the foot drop and the cramping in my left leg, in work my hands felt very clumsy, I started thinking of ALS. Because I had already Googled it. My left leg was getting pins and needles for like 3 days, they started feeling numb. One day it felt really numb I had trouble walking. One day both my legs went really numb and I xould not walk right. My left arm got numb and started to burn. I had like a electrical shock one time while waking up. I feel a buzz all over my face when I blink. I started having burning back pain. Most of these symptoms went away for good. I still have internal vibrations and the main concern here is weakness in my right arm. Well both arms but the thing is one day my left arm feels stronger and one day my right arm feels stronger. My Twichjng was very bad when j started getting all these symptoms j know because I already had ALS in mind. My whole body was twiching day and night j even had a twiching sensation wake me up during the moment I would fall asleep. All over my body. But once I found out ALS was a progressive disease, and had nothing to do with Pins and neadles and numbing and reduced sensation of touch.had nothing to do with internal vibrations and minor tremors. Had nothing to do with symptoms appearing in one day especially symptoms that come and go because I felt real weakness in some of my fingers some days. Like really weak and useless but have all ways improved. Even had trouble swallowing at points.i now suspect MS( I had a vision problem for about a good week which is why it convinces me so much) which honestly would still suck I would accept it and it would still change my life and become more positive. The twiching stoped dramatically. I was even twiching anymore. But as of now I am worried again because both my hands felt weak and my arms felt weak and now even my right whole arm feels weak and my legs do too. Both of them. Some days one legs feel stronger than the other. The twiching is back mostly due to the stress. All over my body legs arms eyelids, even the back of my head. my right arms is kinda weak. Idk why I keep thinking about ALS I guess most of my Symptoms are stress and possibly MS related

MS, colon cancer, HIV, Lymphoma, just name it. I've had anxiety and fear about almost every single terminal disease. ALS was the most recent one. I stopped googling, and ironically the reason is not knowing how harmful is that, but it's because there is simply nothing left to read!
Now I only watch videos and read articles about health anxiety instead of reading ALS (or whatever the active episode is) topics. Your videos are really helpful. Not because of the information about the disease, symptoms, unlikelihood of one having it and etc. Cause a TRUE health anxiety sufferer would know all of them by now after turning the internet upside down!
But the feeling of WE ARE NOT ALONE. There are other people who are dealing with the same disorder. A soul sucking and crippling disorder, health anxiety.
Thanks for sharing your story. I really try to stay away from Google. I was finally seen by a neurologist and he told me that I did not even need an EMG. "These twitches are extremely common. Go home, enjoy your life and stop googling". That's what I was told by a senior neurologist after a thorough examination, and guess what? I still fear.
But this time I have decided to fight the fear and not feed it anymore.
    Thanks Cherelle for your videos.

@@cameronpitre6749 There is a general rule which is accurate 99.99% of the time: If you have twitches only and no severe weakness, then they are benign. This is what all medical sources say and what my neuro told me, we all worry about worst while it's very very unlikely. Here is another diagnostic key:
-If twitches happen while the muscles are at rest and stop when you start using that muscle, they're not a thing to worry about.
I'm not a doctor, no one can diagnose you on the internet. If you have coverage go see a neurologist for reassurance. But there is no guarantee that even after a specialist said "you're just fine" you stop worrying. Like I still think about it (less often though).
The main problem is excessive anxiety and that needs to be addressed.
Again, if you ONLY have twitches, go get checked, but don't worry.

I just want to comment here to all those who twitch and are worried they have ALS. Firstly I would like to describe my twitches clinically. They do not stop, they started in the lower legs and worked the way up both legs going from muscle to muscle, hundreds of small twitches constantly twitching above and below the skin. They have spread to my hands ,feet and several other areas of my body, they never stop ..ever. They roll across the muscle and give the appearance of serious disease, muscles constantly moving. They do not look like a small twitch that is on one spot and eventually goes away. I DO NOT have ALS .ALS is about weakness not twitching. I DO NOT have BFS because BFS is an general term doctors use because they do not know what causes benign twitching. BFS does not really exist as a proven disorder, it is A BFS, not BFS with twitching being only a symptom of a undiagnosed medial condition. I have friends who have known people with ALS, some did NOT have fasciculations at all, twitching is not always a symptom of ALS. If you take after me with thousands and thousands of twitches every day, you are going to live at least 29 years because that's how long my twitches have been going for.

BFS is not real syndrome. Its when doctors don't know what health problem it causes. So here are some problems that can cause fasciculations: hypokalemia (low potassium), hypothyroidism, hypomagnesemia, mercury poisoning, chemotherapy with neurotoxicity, also causes nerve damage (as it looks like it was in my case), muscular dystrophy, b12 and vitamin d deficiency, encephalomyelitis desaminata, spinal meningitis, anxiety(short term twitching and can come with tremors), muscular exhaustion, psychological problems and many more

VortexFlex V7 hi, well as i was picking dates for my appointment, corona happened and i read reports of hospitals having higher concentration of cases, which makes sense. I held off and so far, have not been to the doctor. But I took her advice and essentially ticked off everyday in my mind- Everyday that i can do Everyday activities and not fall. It’s been a good 2-3 months. I have also noticed one more facet and that is that my symptoms improve at night, especially after midnight (I’m a night owl). It leads me to believe that there is a very strong connection between anxiety and what i am experiencing, although i never thought of myself as an exceptionally anxious person.
I’ve also tried another thing to test- increase weights in the gym. If i am able to do that and my muscles respond, it is quite unlikely that I don’t have ALS. ofc, all this logic goes completely out of the window when things get in your head so that’s that.

Thank you for uploading this video! One of my second cousins was diagnosed with ALS about a month ago and the initial atrophy is already taking its toll on him. When I first heard the news I became paranoid about potentially having ALS (occasionally its genetic I think) and I obsessed about trying not to be clumsy, limping, twitching, stumbling or anything like that. I tested my motor skills to make sure that they were all in tact, like walking carefully while carrying heavy things, tying my shoes, and writing neatly with a pen among other things. Thankfully, aside from basic human errors every now and then, I am happy to report that I have no symptoms of ALS as I write this comment with my working hands. Trying to understand what my second cousin is going through has helped me realize how much I take for granted. If I were in his situation, I don't know how I would react to the insurmountable loss which comes from this horrible disease.

ALS that presets as muscle twitching w/o any other symptoms is extremely rare and acouts for less than 3% of ALS cases. This means that chances for pure twitching regardless of location, to be ALS, are 1 in a million.
Most ALS cases will start with a weakness, followed by atrophy , and then fasiculations (twitching) whicl will affect the weakest muscles and slowly progress locally to other weakaing muscles... A simple neurological exam can tell if you have ALS with a 80% confidence. Taking a $500 EMG test, if it comes back normal, that ALS can be ruled out with 99% confidence.

I went through very dark periods during my late teens and early twenties thinking I had ALS. At 17 I had a few anxiety attacks and later I noticed muscle twitches in my hands and later throughout my body. I too also know so much about ALS as I did countless research. At around 25-26 yrs old I outgrew this fear. I am 32 now almost 33 and still have muscles twitches but my fear is long gone. I work in the medical field and recently have encountered a few ALS patients. I am so sorry for them and anyone suffering such horrible disease.

Thank you for the video, it helped me calm down into another anxiety crisis thinking about ALS, "thinking" that I was having fasciculations on the tongue because of the strange sensations and the super surveillance to those sensations. In these crises, I almost get crazy, the fear and anxiety is very strong, just taking a benzodiazepine to be calmer, and do not like to use alprazolam, I try to resist as much as possible but reaches an unbearable point.

Lower back pain, muscle twitching, lower back is twitching, my full body twitching, I feel weakness, I feel that I’m loosing balance, my hands are trembling, I have a little bit joint pain, my muscles feel stiff, and I’m on day 3 i just turned 16 2 weeks ago.
    Edit -
    Day 2:
Went to the doctor Who claims i have UTI. I was prescribed antibiotics and vitamin c pills. This explains the back pain but I think the uti reached my kidneys bc that’s the only way you’ll start twitching. Also the rest might likely just be my anxiety.
Day 3: I take the medications. the twitches are kinda gone by now but they still come but not alot. for some reason I still have muscle weakness my legs are stiff when walking and my muscles in my arms feel tired always.
Day 5: I still have muscle weakness and twitching. I was shivering like a lot after I took a shower and I’m having muscle spasms.
Still the same day except a few hours later. My anxiety is really high rn I’m scared bc my muscles feel weaker and I’m still twitching and I don’t know guys. I’m scared rn. Idk what to do. I’m going to a hospital tomorrow to check my blood.
Day 6: Didn’t go to the hospital and I’m still scared. I still have the same symptoms. My anxiety is going ballistic
Day 7: I’m still having the same symptoms no improvement. My grip is weaker my fingers are stiff. Idk. My jaw also feels stiff.
    Day idk
It’s been at least 4 days since my last time. Honestly guys my jaw isn’t stiff, my fingers aren’t stiff, my grip is stronger, none of my muscles feel stiff. It’s just that I thought I had als soooo much that I just stopped thinking about having a future. I just quit and just said whatever bc I’m seeing all these symptoms there’s no point anymore there’s nothing that makes this NOT be als at this point bc even my voice changed and became less deep. I lowkey thought I had it for days till the point where my anxiety just disappeared cuz I didn’t care anymore. And now, I’m so much better. No more loosing balance, stiffness, shaking. I still have muscle twitching tho and sometimes a lil arm weakness but I’m good other than that I’m fine 🥊
1 month later- I still don’t know what’s wrong with me but I’m still sick. I can still walk I am still able to do things normally. I’m twitching and having involuntary jerk movements still. Guys if you’re twitching or something, ur most likely fine Bc as this girl said with Als twitching isn’t even that common it’s mainly clinical weakness. Anyways I am a little worried but I’m fine and it’s been 2 months actually since day 1. So yeah I’m fine.
3months later I’m fine. I have severe bone cracking idk I thought it was arthritis but arthritis is pain and stiffness which I do not have. Everything is fine the twitching is back in my stomach only this time. And it came back today idk why it’s back but I think it’s Bc I’ve cut off trying to be nutritional and actually being healthy the past month. But after I got sick I started to eat healthier and started to be more active and jog early in the morning. But the past month I started to not do any of them anymore I started procrastinating and now I’m twitching again. I haven’t even eaten today other than breakfast. I missed lunch and there’s none left and so I’m just waiting for dinner. Starving rn.

I don’t have any weakness or anything I’m fine. The only problem I have is severe joint cracking. My ankles are stiff and so crunchy everytime I twist it over and over. Along with elbow and shoulders and neck and wrist. Everything is crunchy and cracky. It’s not occasional cracks it’s severe cracks where if I repeatedly did it, it would crack the exact same way over and over. It won’t stop. The muscle twitching is still here but I just live with it. I’m fine Everyother aspect. Thanks though. But the bone cracking is the only thing I’m worried about. It happened about 2 weeks after the comment I said documenting myself lmao.

I all of a sudden started haing tingling and numbness in my face, arms, fingers, and my right foot. I went to dr, chiropractor with no real answers or help. After about 2 months the tingling and numbness has gone away but now I feel tired and fatigued all the time. I feel weak and jittery. Did a home sleep apnea test and come to find out I have severe sleep apnea. I am not sure if the apnea causes any of the other issues but, it would result in daytime fatigue. It just feels like lately it is more pronounced than usual. I still have very bad health anxiety and was Okay if I was given a MS diagnosis or even cancer. At least those you have a chance at a normal life. With ALS it almost seams hopeless. I still have that fear. I just want to be around for my kids and watch them grow up. And it’s SO hard to get into the neurologist to actually get some questions answered, so I’ve been left to spiral and worry to the point of tears almost daily since I have to wait so long to be seen. This video did calm me down since I don’t have clinical signs of muscular weakness, but I have been having twitching literally all over. The last theee nights, it’s like rapid fire of twitches all over from head to toe when I lay down, just quick little twitches here and there. Lately I have been Constantly checking if I can still grip things and if I can quickly lift my legs and run. I’m a mess. Health anxiety to the fullest, but amplified because I actually do have a few things going on right now. So I’m 🥴

I like the title of your video because it eventually comes up when you search ALS, and it was the only one that spoke of a potential optional diagnosis.

I had massive muscle twitching in one sort of spot on my forearm. Back in the beginning of June. Was brought on by hearing a horrible story which I won't go into here. Of course I went to google & I wish I never did!! ALS everywhere!! So I started going down the rabbit hole! It got worse & worse! Panicking set in!! Was horrible. Once you let the fear in it will run riot. But over time I marked each day on the calendar, took it day by day. Took some supplements, started some breathing exercises & it went away.
So now... Ive started feel the fear and anxiety come back in. Again I'm googling stuff. I've gone down the rabbit hole again! This time its worse. I've twitching all over, my legs are weak im do strength tests to see if i have weakness! Taking over my life. You bring up some amazing points in this video. One half of my brain says yeah get a grip thinks about the odds, the mind tricks etc.. the other half thinks she doesn't know anything.. ok the odds are low but.. someone has to get it etc..
I suppose time will tell if I can get out of this hole again.

I've had full body twitches for over a month now. I also have vivid dreams every night for months. Today I was so exhausted I almost went to the hospital. I'm going to the doctor after my 2nd dose of the vaccine. I'm scared that it could be parkinsons, or ms. You have settled my anxiety on the als. Wish you could do more vids like this for the other potential diseases

anyone who is worried get proper testing for lyme disease. 1st of all the symptoms are similar to ALS (or can be) and also lyme disease can trigger neurodegenerative diseases like ALS unless it its treated. also there is something called Cramp-fasciculation syndrome that looks very much like early ALS but is not so dangerous.

Thank you so much! i am 28 yo, almost 29. for about 2 weeks or so i started twitching . For about 3 days my biceps/triceps , calves , shoulder , chest, belly , lip started all twitching. First my biceps then it goes to my calves , then it goes to my other hand and of course i started panicking , a lot. Went and did blood tests- all good, saw a neurologist - did all the things they are supposed to do closely and after 20-30mins of examination stated : You are one healthy male individual, my boy... However i went to see nefrologist to check my kidneys and livers, guess what - all perfect and the doctor was looking at me like i ran straight from the nuthouse... I have a lot going on - expecting a baby girl in September, looking for a new home , need to replace 2 cars , have targets to reach in my daily job and so on and so forth. I am pretty sensitive especially when it comes to my health and everytime something weird happens in my body i read the internet in my native language ,english and german.... I am really stressed out and i can feel it every day, my sleep isn't deep and refreshing and i wake up really early , loosing my apetite every once in a while as most of the time i eat because i have to.. Stopped working out because i'm scared that if i do the twitching will become even worse as this is what it says in dr.Google lol. Tomorrow will go see another neurologist , hopefully for one last time and then i'll start treating my anxiety/depression properly. Thank you for this video you made, it cheered me up! Take care!

Well, a lot of valid things mentioned in this video.
The initial symptoms of ALS and MS can potentially mimic one another pending because the initial symptoms of MS will differ from person to person. So somebody with MS could have muscle twitching without muscle atrophy due to how MS will impact the central nervous system. With ALS the disease will impact the neurone while MS will impact the myeline sheet (protective covering) of the nerve. This is why an Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Test can be used to rule out ALS but when it comes to MS an Electromyography test will be clear for somebody with MS. With MS muscle atrophy comes later after you are unable to use your extremities normally. So that’s one difference between ALS and MS is that muscle twitching and atrophy will occur Opposite from one another. So while muscle twitching can very well just be anxiety and benign and/or resulting from vitamin and mineral deficiencies if you work towards addressing mental health, stress, anxiety, as well as nutritional health and symptoms appear to get worse then you know it’s something more serious like MS. But it’s worth noting that you really have to consider the less serious conditions like nutrition and mental health when it comes to muscle twitching because more often then not muscle twitching alone is just that, more about mental health and nutrition.
For myself, I noticed muscle twitching in my legs before drop foot and my hand cramped up before I had intentional tremors that were more readily seen. It seems to me that muscle twitching was one of my first symptoms which is why I was being treated for vitamin and mineral deficiencies although my vision problems came first and then hand cramping and dripping things then muscle twitching, then tremors, then foot drop. My Electromyography test ruled out ALS. It’s highly possible I got MS.
Also somebody said that if you’re watching this video you got anxiety but for some people while anxiety might be part of it, for some people like myself you are struggling to communicate and find the right words to describe your symptoms so you do some research to better communicate what’s going on with you.
That all being said ALS never crossed my mind when I started getting those muscle twitches. Then I started to wonder what if they missed it during my last Electromyography test. Then I watched this video which actually makes sense. It makes sense that when it comes to ALS there’d be muscle atrophy first. That has set my mind at ease a little more.

Thank you for this. I love you ❤️❤️❤️

This is so reassuring. I'm 32. I don't really have muscle twitching but I do have some muscle atrophy all down my left side (left temple/eyebrow, shoulder, bicep, hand, thigh, left foot and left most toes).
I had a swimming injury a few years ago where I damaged my left scapula and it still hurts from time-to-time. I work in tech so my posture was poor as well (rolled shoulders, text neck etc). The chiropractor fixed it, and said that my right side was compensating for my left which is why there is atrophy all down my left side. It's not even noticeable, and only I notice it. Health anxiety exacerbates this of course.
My grip is the same on both hands and I go running and do weights just fine. I can lift both arms up normally. The left shoulder is a lot weaker (chiro tested this) and as my scapula is winging this makes sense. I need to build up that strength again.
I've noticed the past week or so my left-most toes on my left foot feel weaker, but I can still tip-toe and walk on my heels. Again, I'm focusing on it 24/7. I didn't notice it yesterday as I was so busy all day (Zooms).
I noticed muscle loss on my ribs last September and nothing has changed/progressed since then. Again, this is connected to the serratus anterior which is near the scapula. It's all connected. I've also always been slim and toned (swimmer) so I've never really had any fat to lose.
Thank you for this. I'm going to tick off each day from tomorrow and, if by 21 June nothing has changed, I'll forget about this. I may see the doctor in the meantime to get it checked, but yeah, I can do everything normally but my left side is weaker and atrophied and I would guess this is because of my shoulder (scapula) injury.

I got electrocuted by a power line 8 months ago and really should have lost my life. The backs of my legs/forearms have been lightly twitching for about 2 weeks now, and while I know for a fact I DO have anxiety (being treated for PTSD currently) to think that after all that ALS might be next is enough to keep me awake at night. Thanks for the calming words, speaking to my doctor tomorrow.
